Form und Politik
Formen der gesellschaftlichen Organisation und Formen der räumlichen Organisation bedingen einander gegenseitig. Diese Beziehungen sind jedoch weder linear noch eindeutig. Ein gesellschaftliches Programm lässt sich auf unterschiedliche, aber nicht auf beliebige Weise räumlich organisieren. Umgekehrt ermöglicht ein Artefakt aufgrund seiner Form und Struktur unterschiedliche, aber nicht beliebige Formen des gesellschaftlichen Gebrauchs. Die Vorstellung des architektonischen oder städtebaulichen Entwurfs als räumliche Umsetzung von vorgegebenen gesellschaftlichen Anforderungen oder Programmen ist daher unhaltbar. Die Entwurfsarbeit verfügt vielmehr über eine bestimmte Autonomie. Sie setzt Artefakte in die Welt, deren gesellschaftliche Leistungsfähigkeit sich erst im Nachhinein erweisen kann. Diese Thesen werden am Beispiel des Planungsprozesses der Bibliothèque Nationale de France diskutiert.
