Cet article relate les résultats d'une enquête sur les modifications chirurgicales du visage au Liban où existe une culture spécifique de la beauté inscrite dès les socialisations de l'enfance. Il décrit le recourt à la chirurgie esthétique en lien avec les rituels familiaux et sociaux. Il s'intéresse ensuite aux imaginaires phénotypiques en partant de la coproduction du visage entre le chirurgien et ses clientes. Il interroge les registres discursifs de la pratique articulant ethnicisation et naturalisme , et soulève pour finir une interrogation sur la tension entre acculturation anatomique et modèle néoténique.

This article discusses certain key questions about the history, memory, and dynamics of belonging in Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon based on the sound culture of their inhabitants. What can the musical content, in particular, and the sound environment, in general, generated by the neighborhood, the birds, and the scooters circulating in the narrow alleys, tell us about life in one of those camps and about the daily lives of a national group placed on the margins of citizenship for over 70 years? Taking the example of the Shatila refugee camp in Beirut, the following three dimensions of this sound culture are examined: the discourses on the community and its spaces in musical production (singing about the camp); sound practices inside the camp (sonorizing the camp); and finally, the description of the camp and its surroundings by its residents through sound journeys (listening to the camp). The analysis is first based on the content of songs in order to describe what music expresses about life in the refugee camps. It then moves on to examine the ordinary sound practices which contribute to the unique character of Shatila and its surrounding areas, such as the commercial district of Sabra. Third, perceptions of the spaces by the residents are described using the method of sound journeys (using the "Mics in the ears" procedure). Finally, it turns out that sound practices give the refugee camp—which over time has turned into a poor cosmopolitan district—a specific identity, and they contribute to establishing a familiarity with the spaces while nonetheless creating boundaries between the groups. These practices fulfill the needs of all the inhabitants to act in and upon the space where they live, this urban margin where they have been "confined" for a long time.

This innovative rapper and electronic music composer uses sampling to link the politicized art created in refugee camps to other critical art forms that redefine the relationship between the aesthetic and the political. This article analyzes selected samples that Osloob created when he was living in Lebanon.

This music has been emerging for about ten years from the popular Egyptian neighborhoods. It is composed on computer and holds its sound signature from a transformation of voices using the Auto-Tune as an audible effect.In this article, the author describes the aesthetic practices of the creators of mahragān, and re-inserts them in a social and musical genealogy to understand, with some precision, what (from whom) the sound is. Then he discusses the organization of the mahragān system by observing the circulation of music on the surface of the city and in digital spaces. In conclusion, these descriptions allow us to establish the idea that mahragān acts as an alternative culture that disseminates music and attractive dress and behavioural codes from outlying neighbourhoods, despite the recurrent criticisms of its cultural legitimacy, compounded by an urban stigmatization of the neighbourhoods from which it emanates. ; Le mahragān – le pluriel mahragānāt est fréquemment employé, il est souvent présenté par les médias français et internationaux sous l'appellation électro-chaabi – se développe en Égypte depuis la fin des années 2000. Cette forme musicale particulière trouve son origine dans les pratiques des DJs qui officient dans les mariages balādīs (locaux, qui se tiennent le plus souvent dans une portion de rue aménagée pour la cérémonie, le terme connote une idée d'authenticité égyptienne opposée à la citadinité bourgeoise occidentalisée) et peu à peu transforment les simples salutations au public de la noce en véritable morceaux mélodiques, des chansons scandées qui suscitent l'engouement de la jeunesse. Cette performance s'impose progressivement dans les fêtes de mariage (afrāḥ) et les acteurs de ce monde nocturne le désigne tout simplement par le terme « festival », mahragān. Ce texte décrit les pratiques esthétiques et sonores du mahragān, et les réinsére dans une généalogie sociale et musicale pour comprendre, avec un peu de précision, de quoi (de qui) il est le son (1).
