Survenue le 30 août 1965, la catastrophe de Mattmark représente le plus gros accident industriel de l'histoire de la Suisse. Par la diversité d'origine des victimes cet événement acquiert une dimension internationale. Il suscite en Suisse et en Europe un débat sur les conditions sociales des migrations économiques et sur les conditions d'exercice professionnel des migrants. Nous nous sommes interrogés ici sur les grands thèmes liés à cette tragédie qui a entrainé la mort de 88 travailleurs. Premièrement, nos réflexions ont été liées au concept de mémoire avec l'objectif de vérifier si cette catastrophe représente véritablement un héritage historique. Deuxièmement, nous avons analysé à travers des entretiens avec les survivants et les familles des victimes quelles ont été leurs stratégies de survie et comment est-il possible de construire une mémoire collective et individuelle dans ce contexte. Troisièmement, la catastrophe a eu comme conséquence la naissance de plusieurs sentiments de solidarité – d'urgence, religieuse, émotionnelle – et la constitution d'une fondation pour prendre en charge les victimes, un fait unique à l'époque. Finalement, la catastrophe de Mattmark a aussi remis en question l'image-même de la Suisse et, à cet égard, est devenue un symbole des controverses politiques de l'époque.

La participation politique en Suisse dépend des enjeux mis au vote et de l'âge. Notre analyse montre un regain d'intérêt des jeunes adultes de nationalité suisse pour la politique. Nous constatons que quasiment la moitié s'y intéresse, s'informe de préférence sur internet et dans la presse écrite, et qu'une partie non négligeable s'engage sous des formes de participation politiques variées. Il y a corrélation positive entre le niveau d'éducation et l'intérêt pour la politique. Les hommes s'intéressent plus à la politique tandis que les jeunes adultes nés de parents étrangers participent moins aux votations et élections fédérales. Un tiers des jeunes adultes indiquent s'engager en tant que bénévole. Pourtant, l'engagement civil et la participation politique ne sont que faiblement liés.

Cet article s'intéresse aux récits d'expériences de (non-)consommation d'alcool de mères allaitantes. En suivant une approche pragmatique et féministe, les auteur·e·s décrivent ce qui importe pour elles et ce dont elles dépendent pour élaborer des « options vivantes » (James, [1897] 2005). Explorant les situations où la question de boire un verre se (re)pose, leur recherche rend compte des problèmes que rencontrent ces mères. L'article montre ainsi que leurs expériences de (non-)consommation d'alcool constituent des options à la fois distribuées, corporées et accountable . Au plus proche des préoccupations des femmes, l'analyse met en évidence l'accomplissement du genre et de la maternité dans leurs élaborations pratiques (West et Zimmerman, 2009) et ouvre la voie à des existences parentales alternatives.

Governmentality principles of risk-aversion and individual responsibility have long permeated the realm of family, framing good parenthood as risk-averse parenthood. This also applies to pregnancy, an incipient phase of the transition to parenthood. Here research shows that the role of managing risks for the foetus lies mainly with the woman. The role of male partners during this stage, however, has been underexamined in the sociological literature. Our study focuses on expecting couples and their experience with and perception of alcohol risk during pregnancy, as well as the construction of boundaries between "harmful", "risky" and "safe" alcohol consumption habits. To this end, we conducted separate qualitative interviews with 46 couples living in Switzerland. Our findings indicate that most expecting parents perceive abstinence, or significant reduction of alcohol consumption, as an integral part of good parenthood. Women in particular, feel responsible for the management of alcohol related risk and uncertainty, which involves an on-going monitoring of their daily habits and bodily sensations, as well as navigating conflicting norms within daily life, work, sociability and coupledom. In this ongoing process of risk monitoring, male partners take on a secondary role, referencing information and risk appraisals provided by the women, and sometimes providing support in situations of uncertainty. Most men reduce their alcohol consumption marginally. "Shared abstinence" as a way of supporting the women's abstinence efforts, is seen as ideal but unattainable, by some pregnant women, and as ineffectual, by others. Male partners, meanwhile, stress their willingness to reduce consumption to a similar degree, if asked by their partners. Ultimately, we find that the management of alcohol risk during pregnancy contributes to the (re)production of gendered norms of good parenthood, where the future mother is primarily in charge of the child's health and wellbeing, and the future father inhabits a secondary, supportive role.

"The cytogenetic aberrations induced by doxorubicin (DOX) may be influenced by diet. Investigation regarding effects of low doses of DOX on chromosomal aberrations frequency in mice bone marrow. The study explored a possible relationship between diet, follow-up period, and cytostatic doses. Four mice groups received normal or high-fat (pork) diet. At the beginning of the 8th day mice from each group received a single intraperitoneal injection with DOX (dose range: 1.7-7.7 mg/kg b.w.) or isotonic saline solution (0.02 mL/g control mice). In the 10th (groups I, II) and 14th (groups III, IV) days from the beginning of the experiment, the mice were euthanized and chromosome aberrations were tested in bone marrow cells. The body weight of all mice who received DOX decreases, especially at higher doses. In the first three days post-injection, weight loss percentage was significantly influenced by DOX doses and/or type of diet (p<0.003). The interaction between the type of diet and DOX doses was not statistically significant in the follow-up period (p interactions >0.05). DOX doses were able to increase the frequency of chromosomal aberrations. DOX acts as a potent inductor of cytogenetic aberrations in bone marrow cells, regardless of the type of diet."
