Trends and Changes in Hydroclimatic Variables: Links to Climate Variability and Change discusses the change detection and trend analysis methods used to assess hydroclimatic variables in a changing climate. Changes and trends in hydroclimatic variables are assessed using state-of-the-art methods, such as non-linear trend estimation (including spline smoothing and local regression) and handling persistence (or serial auto-correlation in data) for assessing trends in different hydroclimatic variables (e.g. pre-whitening methods). The MIL_STD_1553 was developed in the 1970s as a serial communication bus for military applications by DoD (Department of Defense) USA and standardized in 1973. Later, the two various versions namely MIL_STD_1553A and MIL_STD_1553B were evolved, the later version MIL_STD_1553B is widely used in military applications because of its high reliability and flexibility. Modern avionic systems require high speed operation; however 1553B cannot reach the speed of the applications at high speed. To meet the real-world requirements, it is needed to improve the performance of the data bus, so this proposed work is focused on the implementation of military standard 1553B Bus Controller module using Verilog HDL and simulation is carried out by Xilinx ISE. Improvement in speed of operation due to reduction in delay is shown.

Abstract Adults readily detect changes in face patterns brought about by the inversion of eyes and mouth when the faces are viewed upright but not when they are viewed upside down. Research suggests that this illusion (the Thatcher illusion) is caused by the interfering effects of face inversion on the processing of second‐order relational information (fine spatial information such as the distance between the eyes). In the current study, 6‐month‐olds discriminated 'thatcherized' faces when they were viewed upright but not when they were viewed upside down. These results are consistent with the notion that 6‐month‐olds are sensitive to second‐order relational information while processing faces.

The segregation of objects from other objects in visual arrays is a fundamental function of our visual system. Research suggests that adults' detection of a target among nontargets is affected by the heterogeneity of array elements and the resulting changes in target–nontarget and nontarget–nontarget similarities. We examined the effects of heterogeneity and similarity on object segregation in infancy. In Experiment 1, 5.5‐month‐olds detected a misoriented element in an array when the array elements were spatially arranged in a 'good' configuration but not when they were arranged in a 'poor' configuration. In Experiment 2, infants detected a vertical line in a homogeneous array of 55° or 125° lines, but failed to do so in a heterogeneous array of 55° and 125° lines. Thus, heterogeneity in both the arrangement and identity of array elements affected infants' discrepancy detection. Because the average target–nontarget similarity was the same in the two conditions of Experiment 2, the results also indicated that nontarget–nontarget similarity independently affects discrepancy detection in infancy. These results are consistent with models of object segregation by adults, and suggest that stimulus heterogeneity and similarity have analogous effects on object segregation at 5.5 months of age and in adulthood.

This paper evaluates the economic development of China using the New Economic Geography (NEG) as a framework of analysis. The NEG addresses the formation of agglomeration economies accruing to physical linkages in one location leading to the formation of a coreperiphery pattern between the regions of a country. However, the NEG cannot account for the role of knowledge creation linkages which are location independent in the formation of the core-periphery pattern. The main findings of this paper are that the formation of the coreperiphery pattern predicted by the NEG depends upon government economic and development policy at a point in time. Furthermore, while the NEG does not allow for knowledge creation to be involved in the formation of the core-periphery pattern, this paper shows that once the core-periphery pattern is formed, the knowledge creation process sustains it. This paper also supports the hypothesis that investment in infrastructure and fixed assets, which has been concentrated in China due to the nature of the Special Economic Zones in the Coastal regions, and the interdependence between different types of infrastructure leads to the formation of the core-periphery pattern.

The results of this paper indicates that the state of Nigeria's aquaculture industry has been driven by Dependency Theory. But the state of the Chinese aquaculture industry has been driven by Modernisation Theory. Nigeria is the largest oil producer in Africa. Since independence Nigerian's only saw 10 years of elected government until the end of military rule in 1999. The military were not concerned with the needs and welfare of the country's citizens but with the needs of the US and European multinational oil companies. China started a series of ongoing economic reforms in 1978. These reforms incentivized farmers to farm fish. The reforms facilitated the development of institutions such as a legal and regulatory framework as well as centers of technological innovation. For the needs of food security it is imperative that Nigeria transforms its aquaculture industry based on the China model.

The aim of this paper is to investigate how employee related CSR guidelines and government policies influence HR functions in terms of diversity and equal opportunity, training and education, remuneration, labour relations and occupational health. The analysis is based on case study of firms operating in Primary Industry (Oil & Gas), the Secondary Industry (Automobiles) and in the Tertiary Industry (Telecommunications). CSR emerged far earlier in firms based and originating from developed economies, but this has just happened in China and there's limited research on how CSR contribute to the sustainability of the workers and the development of human capital. This paper contributes to a deeper understanding of the evolution of CSR, its implementation and its effectiveness on HR functions and how these vary between China's different Industries. The results of this paper indicate that there is considerable overlap between China's Labour Law and the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) disclosure guidelines. The CASS CSR disclosure requirements were found to be more comprehensive than the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) CSR disclosure requirements in the context of the selected five Human Resource (HR) functions. While no discernible pattern was found, either inter or intra industry, in the level of disclosure according to either CASS or GRI CSR guidelines or between them there were some notable results. With regards to Occupational Health and Safety firms in Primary Industry provided more information corresponding to both GRI and CASS CSR guidelines than did firms in either the Secondary or the Tertiary Industry. While all firms complied with CASS CSR disclosure requirements associated with Training and Education except one form in Tertiary Industry, firms in Primary Industry disclosed more Training and Education information in the context of GRI CSR disclosure requirements. Web search engines discover indexable documents by recursively 'crawling' from a seed URL. Their rankings take into account link popularity. While this works well, it introduces biases towards older documents. Older documents are more likely to be the target of links, while new documents with few, or no, incoming links are unlikely to rank highly in search results. We describe a novel system for 'new-Web' search based on links retrieved from the Twitter micro-blogging service. The Twitter service allows individuals, organisations and governments to rapidly disseminate very short messages to a wide variety of interested parties. When a Twitter message contains a URL, we use the Twitter message as a description of the URL's target. As Twitter is frequently used for discussion of current events, these messages offer useful, up- to-date annotations and instantaneous popularity readings for a small, but timely, portion of the Web. Our working system is simple and fast and we believe may offer a significant advantage in revealing new information on the Web that would otherwise be hidden from searchers. Beyond the basic system, we anticipate the Twitter messages may add supplementary terms for a URL, or add weight to existing terms, and that the reputation or authority of each message sender may serve to weight both annotations and query-independent popularity.
