The 24th of February 2022 lastingly altered Europe's security architecture. The European Union and its member states have continued to support Ukraine in a multitude of ways, including direct financial assistance, political support in relevant international fora, far-reaching sanctions against Russian citizens and businesses, and massive arms supplies. What has, however, remained ambiguous is within which (legal) framework the EU has provided different means of support towards Ukraine. In other words: what legal principle – that may also be derived from its treaty framework – determined and guided EU support towards Ukraine? This contribution argues that at least certain streams of EU assistance for Ukraine in countering the Russian Federation's aggression – namely those aimed at ending impunity for international crimes – have been organized within a distinct rule of law context.

Ghana has a unicameral legislature, referred to as the Parliament (Stapenhurst and Alandu, 2009). Since 1992, following the end of eleven years of military rule under President John Jerry Rawlings and the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC), elections to the Parliament are held once every four years in December. Since the coming into force of the new legal framework on 7 January 1993, Ghana's political system may be characterized as a hybrid between presidential and parliamentary regimes. The new constitution not only established a presidential or semi-presidential republic, borrowing several specifics from the U.S. system such as the need for citizens to register as voters under Article 42 of the Constitution, but also several traits from the British model, most notably in the context of its electoral system. Abstract
What is the role of the social sciences in international law? This article maps how international law interacts with the social sciences, including its concepts, findings, methods, and epistemologies. It provides a first encompassing genealogy of social science references in six renowned international law journals, including the American, Asian, European, Leiden, and Nordic Journal of International Law as well as the British International and Comparative Law Quarterly, by using a corpus linguistic approach that encompasses more than 15,000 documents from 1907 to 2022. Moreover, it explores how structural factors related to the institutionalization and funding of certain strands of social science-inspired international law scholarship have influenced regional and temporal patterns in Europe, Germany, and Australia.
