This paper reflects on Deirdre McCloskey's book "Rhetoric of economics" on the occasion of its Russian edition. McCloskey's intellectual evolution is marked by the early interest in economic history that is then linked to the interdisciplinary humanistic search of the origins of capitalism. The article reconstructs the basic ideas of McCloskey on economics and the possibilities of its humanisation and shows the role of rhetoric for the later work on the boirgeois virtues and dignity. It also demontrates the remnants of modernism in McCloskey's texts such as the dominant role of the author and the failure to fully recognize economy itself as a rhetorical phenomenon.

The article that is devoted to the appearance of the Russian edition of Samuel Bowles "Microeconomics. Behavior, Institutions, and Evolution" considers possible changes that may be brought by the new research program outlined in the book. The author analyzes the main arguments and rhetorical strategies applied by Bowles and shows that the major shift that this book may entail can be the merger of microeconomics and institutional economics that may lead to vanishing of the latter as a distinct discipline and its integration into the vast field of microeconomic analysis.

The article provides a rhetorical analysis of the New Institutional Economics based on the works of its main representatives - R. Coase, O. Williamson and D. North. The author exposes the specific features of scientific rhetoric characteristic for each of these scientists, reconstructs their biographies and shows, how and why their theories came to be integrated into mainstream economics.

The article deals with the rethinking of the contexts of intellectual biography of Nikolai Ivanovich Sieber (1844-1888) known as a Russian Marxist and the classical political economist. Three such contexts of collective practices, which give us broader understanding of his role and place are in the focus of the paper: university work and life, scientific travels abroad and the relationships and networks around publishing. On the base of secondary literature and new archival sources the author reveals the meaning of these institutions reconstructing the networks and the circle of Sieber. The author shows that Sieber had a large and diverse network in scientific and publishing activities, but as a representative of Russian cosmopolitan intellectual elite could not be judged in too narrow terms of national or revolutionary movements.
