This paper has examined some important aspects of rural women's life in a village of Pakistan, with special attention to women's inheritance of property, position in authority structure, family eating patterns, the purdah system, women's role in farm operations, and their health and leisure activities. The analysis indicates a considerable gap between general attitudes and practices with respect to women's status in the rural society, and identifies certain structural constraints that have pre- petuated female dependency on men in the family and the larger society. The findings of this study are found consistent with other major studies of rural women in Pakistan.
