; The US electoral system is essentially defined, in almost all states and federal elections, by the application of single-member plurality. However, the law does not require it. The electoral system is a result of the history, as it is rooted in the British model and evolved within the parameters established by the Constitution of 1787. Therefore the electoral system is conditioned by the political parties rejection, the peculiarities of the presidential election, the predominance of single-member districts and the primary election holding to select presidential candidates. All these factors stablish the foundation of SMP and encourage the dualism of trends that finally encourages the bipartisanship.

This article presents a literature review of the relationship between leadership and community participation to identify the research topics underpinning the studies and theoretical works in this domain. A systematic review of electronic sources was conducted, covering the period from 1990 to 2015. A total of 1.890 articles in the social sciences were identified, and the full texts of 17 articles were reviewed in detail. The criteria used in selecting articles with key theoretical and empirical contributions were the number of times an article was cited and the relevance of the topic. The results were exploited through a comprehensive review. The articles discuss different modes of community participation that have been divided into the categories of leadership in professional communities, leadership in relation to family participation, and leadership in relation to other community members. It has been identified that there are fewer works that include integrative approaches in terms of dialogical leadership among all community members. This review suggests a need to further investigate the leadership dynamics that, through community participation, may result in improvements for society.

Leadership plays a relevant role in the improvement of organisations and its study has influenced the analysis of dynamics of social change in current societies. There is a trend to analyse leadership considering issues such as its distribution or transformative dimension. According to recent developments in this field, dialogic leadership implies the whole community in the process of creation, development and consolidation of leadership practices. However, less is known about the role of dialogic leadership in relation to men´s movements and masculinities, particularly in the field of the New Alternative Masculinities (NAM). This article presents the results of a qualitative case study developed in an adult school being part of the Learning Communities project. It illustrates existing synergies between dialogic leadership and the NAM movement. It is explored in which ways the school influence transformative processes beyond its organisation and contributes to make more visible the NAM movement. The paper shows evidence on how dialogic leadership contributes to create an environment in which emerging leadership practices of the community in relation to the NAM movement have flourished.
