Urban protests in the twentieth century marked a social and political change that altered the way we transform our cities, or at least should have, so that we design urban spaces for people, but mostly with people. Today, it seems clear that participation and bottom-up processes are central to the urban project. In this context, our current research focuses on creating a methodology with new strategies (information and communication technologies, fun tools such as urban sketching and tactical planning). In this research, we analyse recent case studies, in which the final recipients of urban planning, its users, co-design the project. The main purpose of this paper is to evaluate the method we use in TEA / OSW (Taller Espacios Abiertos / Open spaces Workshop). This method follows the idea of urban action or urban DIY and has been studied at two levels: first, as a mechanism of participation and second as a new way of teaching architecture, with urban actions at a scale of 1:1. This case study examines the transformation of the old railway station into a cultural centre, which took place through co-creation workshops, assemblies, evolutive models and, above all, self-build workshops. To obtain the results, we used quantitative and qualitative evaluation. The results show that the workshop was successful not only as a participative tool, but also as a social process and a way of learning in design and architecture. ; Postprint (author's final draft)
; The last fifty years of urban transformation has generated impressive "know-how" in urban studies in Europe. Inherited from the 1970s, processes of participation, which are directly related with reclaiming the city, are now re-emerging in urban and architectural processes in democratic cities. Sustainable, resilient, urban regeneration means working with inhabitants when cities are transformed, giving them the opportunity to collaborate in the city's creation. Complex, ready-to-use participatory methodology is required for urban planners and landscape architects to work in an interdisciplinary way with other specialists. This research proposes the creation of methodology for participatory action using new and traditional tools (information and communications technology, mapping, big data cartographies, tactical planning, and opinion polls among other techniques), through their classification into a taxonomy. This paper shows the taxonomy generated through an analysis of several historical and recent case studies in which the real stakeholders in urban planning—its users—co-designed the project. By combining the tools, we should be able to build a methodology or a guide for co-creation workshops. [EN] Sustainable, democratic, resilient, inclusive urban regeneration means working with inhabitants when cities are transformed, giving them the opportunity to collaborate in the city's creation. This research studies the relationship between graphic creativity and citizen participation for architectural and university applications in urban processes to build the city, and in the strategies and means to operate it. In schools, this relationship reveals glimpses of new ways of alternative learning. As a research method, we analyze examples that have influenced various graphic disciplines and technological implementations, and urban art practices that have emerged from citizen struggles. The results illustrate that the urban project can be taught by incorporating collaborative design, with strategies such as street art, collective maps or tactical urbanism, and urban sketching and virtual reality, taken together as means of enriching the creative, artistic and educational processes. ; Urban development can have a profound impact on the health and well-being of people, sustainability of cities, increasing energy consumption because of increasing urban heat island (UHI), and also CO2 which is one of the environmental and social concerns. The vertical garden as a second skin on the façade has been analyzed in this paper, are compared using several constructive alternatives in a natural and also sustainable way. The main proposal of this study is a second skin (green façade) in an office building in Barcelona that is located in southwest orientation, which aims to reduce energy consumption as much as possible and also improve the urban landscape. Vertical gardens as a second skin are implemented on the building's exterior walls to intercept a quantity of solar radiation towards the vertical building envelope. The methodology is based on the evaluation of various green facade options through simulation of the different sizes of the cavity's depth, orientation, and height of the building. According to the result of the simulation obtained from Autodesk Green Building Studio, the cavity's depth of the green facade as a second skin is very effective in the performance of the green facade which cavity's depth must be calculated as specified by the building main facade's material and structure, building orientation, the height of the building, and also climate. This paper presents a case study that applies this approach in an office building located in Passeig de Gràcia, L'Eixample area in Barcelona, Spain. The aim of this article is to study how students currently understand the conception of space through different media and how that understanding helps them to intervene in the space. Firstly, the process of teaching and learning as well as innovative supporting technologies are analysed, revealing the characteristics of the contemporary student profile and better ways of teaching according to it. Secondly, we describe the evaluation of an experiment with a virtual reality (VR) system for urban project design with students of architecture from two universities. The premise is that the technology used in VR is familiar to the current profile of students. This paper aims to study the advantages and disadvantages of this trend and to find a balance. To do so, we use a quantitative method to evaluate students' profiles and their level of satisfaction with the system. The results were obtained by a questionnaire and a survey, which show the role and use of technologies in the students' environment and the degree of satisfaction when using it in the educational processes. In line with our assumptions, the value of satisfaction in the use of an advanced visualization technology in the classroom reveals a high level of motivation, in general, with differentiation between students in their first and last phases of studies. ; This research was supported by the National Program of Research, Development and Innovation aimed to the Society Challenges with the references BIA2016-77464-C2-1-R & BIA2016-77464-C2-2-R, both of the National Plan for Scientific Research, Development and Technological Innovation 2013-2016, Government of Spain, titled "Gamificación para la enseñanza del diseño urbano y la integración en ella de la participación ciudadana (ArchGAME4CITY)", & "Diseño Gamificado de visualización 3D con sistemas de realidad virtual para el estudio de la mejora de competencias motivacionales, sociales y espaciales del usuario (EduGAME4CITY)".
