Der Beitrag analysiert die Bedeutung der revisionistischen Perspektiven innerhalb der britischen Gewerkschaften während der 90er Jahre. Der entscheidende Schritt dieses Revisionismus bestand darin, die Vorstellungen vom "Klassenkampf" und den orthodoxen Klassenbegriff zu verabschieden. Die Idee einer geschlossen vorwärts marschierenden Front der Arbeiterklasse wich - mit dem einsetzenden Mitgliederschwund - einer differenzierten Analyse der sozialstrukturellen Zusammensetzung der Arbeitnehmerschaft bzw. der "Klientel" der Gewerkschaften. Der Autor rekonstruiert diese Entwicklungen an der entsprechenden Reorganisation der Gewerkschaften, mit der im Laufe der 90er Jahre liberale und freie Gewerkschaften sich ausbreiteten. Aus der Perspektive der "long duree" betont der Autor den defensive Charakter der britischen Gewerkschaftspolitik. Die aggressive Militanz der 60er und 70er Jahre war - auf das ganze Jahrhundert bezogen - eine Ausnahme. (ICA)
