Ein transhumanistisches Utopia?

Die Transhumanisten gehen davon aus, dass die Abschaffung des Todes mit technischen Mitteln noch in diesem Jahrhundert möglich sein wird. Pointiert dargestellt wollen sie dieses Ziel über folgende Schritte erreichen: (1) Die Stärkung des menschlichen Körpers mit Hilfe neuer Produkte und Technologien, durch die ein vielfach höheres Alter bei gleichbleibender körperlicher und geistiger Leistungsfähigkeit ermöglicht wird. (2) Die Befreiung der Menschheit von heute unheilbaren Krankheiten, Hunger und Armut mittels neuartiger Therapien und synthetischer Herstellung von Nahrungsmitteln. (3) Die Übertragung der Informationen des menschlichen Gehirns auf ein anderes, nichtbiologisches Medium. Dieser Schritt wird als Eingang in ein posthumanes Zeitalter bezeichnet. - Im vorliegenden Beitrag werden zunächst weitere erklärende Anmerkungen zum Transhumanismus gemacht. Anschließend werden Texte von Nick Bostrom vorgestellt, die nähere Auskunft über die utopischen Elemente des Transhumanismus geben. Der Philosoph war im Jahr 1998 Mitbegründer der Welttranshumanistenorganisation (WTA), die Anfang des Jahres 2009 ca. 5.400 Mitglieder zählte. Schließlich werden Texte von Bostrom und anderen Vertretern des Transhumanismus der "Utopia" von Thomas Morus gegenüber gestellt und - soweit möglich - mit ihr verglichen. (ICI2)
