Increasing use of cyber-campaigns is being made by social movements and political groups. Nevertheless, this popularity is often accompanied by undesirable consequences for social movements such as the violence denounced by contemporary feminism. Thus, some digital mobilisations create a rift between the physical and digital worlds — something that often gives rise to homogenisation of socio-cultural categories such as gender, race, and age. In this paper, we analyse the #BringBackOurGirls campaign, which sprang to life five years ago. Its path reveals the success of these cyber-campaigns in the field of contemporary feminism. Feminist Critical Discourse Analysis (FCDA) is used to take a feminist genealogical approach to new materialisms. In doing so, it examines the temporal and spatial trajectory of the campaign to reshape affirmative feminist politics. These politics involve reconfiguring pre-established notions such as 'girl', 'agency', and 'otherness' to provide social movements with the capacity to respond. We therefore undertake an ethnographic examination of the hashtag (Bonilla & Rosa, 2015) to compare the beginning of the campaign with the situation now. We draw on these results to localise the shift from the local scale to the global one, in which structural powers, individual agency, and 'glocal' [local-global] and feminist affirmation policies become diluted.

Las cibercampañas digitales son un fenómeno utilizado por movimientos sociales y grupos políticos con una frecuencia cada vez más notable. Sin embargo, esta popularidad siempre viene acompañada de algunas consecuencias que pueden no ser tan beneficiosas para movimientos sociales como el feminismo contemporáneo o el conflicto que denuncian. Así pues, algunas movilizaciones digitales provocan escisiones entre lo físico y lo digital que a veces se traducen en la homogeneización de categorías socioculturales como el género, la raza y la edad. En el presente artículo analizaremos la campaña #BringBackOurGirls, que nació hace cinco años y cuyo desarrollo ha sido utilizado para comprobar el éxito de estas cibercampañas dentro del feminismo contemporáneo. A través de un análisis del discurso crítico feminista (FCDA) con un enfoque genealógico feminista de los nuevos materialismos, este artículo pretende analizar el desarrollo temporal y espacial de la citada campaña para reconfigurar una política feminista afirmativa. Dicha política consiste en reconfigurar nociones preestablecidas como las de «niña», «agencialidad» y «otredad» para conseguir movimientos con capacidad de respuesta. Así pues, realizaremos una etnografía del hashtag (Bonilla y Rosa, 2015) para comparar el inicio de la campaña y su situación actual. Entender la pedagogía desde el concepto de afecto permite adentrarnos a las transformaciones que los cuerpos viven dentro de eventos de aprendizaje. En concreto, este artículo indaga sobre cómo los afectos circulan en situaciones pedagógicas de movimiento localizadas, en 3 sesiones de psicomotricidad, para ir hacia una pedagogía afectiva que explora las transiciones de los cuerpos como manera de repensar las formas de hacer en educación. La metodología usada en este artículo es de una Investigación Basada en las Artes desde una perspectiva de los Nuevos Materialismos. Cómo método, se explora el proceso de elaboración de las cartografías de investigación y cart(e)ografías que aterrizan el movimiento y los afectos de un momento en concreto. Este artículo entiende como resultados aquellos conocimientos surgidos en el proceso de investigación. En ellos, se puede ver como el movimiento permite circular afectos que pueden ser retenidos en la especificidad de cada cuerpo para transformar y aprender. Acercarse a una pedagogía afectiva del movimiento significa ir hacia métodos experimentales pero localizados. De esta manera se pueden explorar estrategias pedagógicas que invitan a repensar la educación a partir de desdibujar las dualidades y las jerarquías, atender a las relaciones, a los movimientos de los cuerpos que nunca son estables y empezar a entender la necesidad de afectar y ser afectado para poder transformarse y aprender.

La presente tesis doctoral examina una comunicación relacional como objeto de estudio para la literatura. Dicha comunicación se produce entre autores y autoras y lectores y lectoras a través de las redes sociales. Para tales fines, utiliza una escritora en particular, Toni Morrisson y una modalidad de red social concreta, su página oficial de Facebook. Utilizando como marco teórico el nuevo materialismo (Van der Tuin & Dolphijn, 2010) y una metodología "difractiva" (Barad, 2007), esta tesis desarrolla un concepto de comunicación literaria basada en mecanismos que infieren diferencias sustanciales fundamentalmente en dos aspectos: géenero y política. El marco teórico nuevo materialista lleva como principal premisa la ruptura de opuestos dicotómicos, tales como el binomio sexual entre hombres y mujeres. Por otra parte, la metodología difractiva se opone al "efecto espejo" en el cual las partes de la investigación (investigador o invcestigadora, metodología, instrumentos de medición y objecto de estudo, entre otros) son claramentes diferenciadas con el objeto de representar una realidad. Este punto de partida supone un cambio referencial por el cual buscamos procesos y no resultados. Así pues, en esta tesis encontramos que el objecto literario es la comunicación en sí (y no la obra o el autor o autora), y que en esta comunicación se produce una materialización de política basada en afinidades y no identidades y un concepto de género relacional situado (Haraway, 1991) racialmente. Estos conceptos teóricos se articulan empíricamente gracias al análisis de los afectos (Colman, 2008), o sentimientos, que se encarnan en las relaciones. ; The present doctoral dissertation examines a relational communicacion as an object for Literary Studies. This communicacion between authors and readers is stablished through Social Networking Sites. For those means, it uses a concrete autor, Toni Morrisson and a particular Social Network, like her official Facebook page. Using New materialism (Van der Tuin & Dolphijn, 2010) as a theoretical framework and a "diffractive metodology" (Barad, 2007), this thesis develops a concept of literary communication based on mechanisms that produce differences on two main aspects: gender and politics. The new materialist framework postulates mainly breaking through opposite poles such as the sexual binary between men and women. On the other hand, the diffractive methodology is oppodef to the "mirroring effect" in wich the different elements of a research (such as researcher, methodology, apparatuses and object of study, among others) are separated from each other to represent reality. This requires a referential shift to look for processes instead of results. Therefore, in this thesis we find that the object of Literary Studies is the communication itself (not the novel or the author), and this communication materializes politics based uppon affinities and not identities and a concept of gender as relationally "situated" (Haraway, 1991) in a racial context. Theses theoretical concepts are empirically articulated thanks to the analysis of affects (Colman, 2008), or feelings, embedded in those relationships. ; La present tesi doctoral examina una comunicació relacional com a objecte d'estudi per a la literatura. Aquesta comunicació es produeix entre autors i autores i lectors i lectores a través de les xarxes socials . Per a tals fins, utilitza una escriptora en particular, Toni Morrisson i una modalitat de xarxa social concreta, la seva pàgina oficial de Facebook. Utilitzant com a marc teòric el nou materialisme (Van der Tuin & Dolphijn, 2010) i una metodologia "difractiva" (Barad, 2007), aquesta tesi desenvolupa un concepte de comunicació literària basada en mecanismes que infereixen diferències substancials fonamentalment en dos aspectes: gènere i política.

Feminist Literary and Filmic Cultures for Social Action: Gender Response-able Labs examines teaching and research practices under feminist new materialisms and response-ability through literary and visual products. It is an invaluable resource to advanced undergraduate and postgraduate students in literary, film, and feminist studies.

El siguiente artículo tiene como objetivo principal ofrecer una herramienta conceptual metodológica para analizar la representación de la violencia machista en los actuales medios digitales. Esta herramienta es el concepto del feminismo posthumano "residuo" (waste), por la cual un concepto que deja de ser valorado por el origen de su producción se reconfigura para volver al circuito neo-liberal. Las autoras del presente artículo pretenden reconfigurar la noción de género como un elemento relacional para ofrecer ópticas éticas y estéticas de la materialización que se hace de los cuerpos de las mujeres en estas situaciones.

In this collectively written article, the authors interrogate contemporary power constellations that run between control and connectivity. Regimes of individualism, hierarchies of assumed classifications and imperialistic subjectivities sustain the basis for political control that organises connections and divisions used to justify hierarchical dominations and distributions. This makes anti-oppression practices that value differing forms of connectivity and intra-dependence (between humans, more than humans, disciplines, all things considered to be of different bodies) nearly unimaginable. The authors offer/reconfigure/understand connectivity as a practice acting in and at odds with those controlling political regimes that organise and classify matter(s), while experimenting with their own writing methodology aimed at staying connected. Informed by new materialist feminist practices and ideas, the authors discuss the political stakes of multiple ideas of connectivity within three empirical scenarios: academic labour practices, social media and a digitally established mutual aid community. We trace entangled forces of separation and control shaped by global imperialism, processes of individuation and technological apparatuses and how they perform within these scenarios. This approach is mirrored in our practice of writing together. In an alternative to traditionalised ways of writing, we expand upon an embodied praxis, elaborating on multiple engagements while offering our own connections with these differing situated knowledges. In light of this, the authors write in a diffractive, collective fashion that lies somewhere between a conversation and the strict linearity of typical narratives.

The relationship between literature and social networking sites (SNS) is a material context in which authors and readers merge into each other to create a literary communicative process that transforms contemporary politics. The aim of this paper is to analyse the communicative process by investigating the continuum between matter and discourse from a new materialist approach. From social sites, we can understand how elements, such as readers, authors, context, novels, culture and digital platforms, "intra-act" (Barad 2007) to create an affecting/ed communicative process. We propose feminist new materialism as a theoretical terrain that helps to reconfigure politics and communication in order to build a methodological framework for contemporary feminist politics and theory related to Literature. Using a digital genealogy and the theory of new materialism, we identify communication in literature as a trapping force in which different elements intra-act with each other and become indivisible. Affecting/ed communication is a dynamic conceptualization, a literary activity in which active agents participate in creative spaces for future social changes.

The idea to create a Special Issue journal around the topic of feminist new materialisms emerged out of the editors' collaboration in the frames of European project New Materialism: Networking European Scholarship on 'How Matter Comes to Matter' (European Cooperation in Science and Technology), and more specifically it was born at the 9th Annual Conference on the New Materialisms, held at Utrecht University in June 2018 [...]

This special issue has been elaborated mostly with communications presented at the V New Materialist Conference on the 25th and 26th of September 2014, in Barcelona. Hosted by the Interdisciplinary Internet Institute at the Open University of Catalonia, this event was also the kick-off conference of the COST Action 1307: ¿New Materialism: Networking European Scholarship on How matter comes to matter¿ and organized by the GENTIC research group in collaboration with many different European universities. Entitled ¿New Materialist Methodologies: Gender, Politics, the Digital¿, the conference has been a highly productive moment of intellectual contribution of ideas and content-wise papers around gender, methodologies, politics and digital cultures from a new materialist framework. The papers in this issue constitute a sample of very insightful approaches coming from various areas within the conference themes. ; Este número especial se ha basado mayoritariamente en las comunicaciones presentadas en el 5º Congreso Anual sobre los Nuevos Materialismos que tuvo lugar el 25 y 26 de septiembre en Barcelona. Acogido por el Internet Interdisciplinary Institute de la Universidad Oberta de Catalunya, este congreso fue el evento que dio inicio a la Cost Action ISCH IS307 «New Materialism: networking European scholarship on how matter comes to matter», organizada por el grupo de investigación GENTIC en colaboración con diversas universidades europeas y financiado parcialmente por el Instituto de la Mujer de España para resaltar opresiones estructurales (in)visibles. El encuentro de septiembre, titulado «New materialist methodologies: gender, politics, the digital» (Nuevas metodologías materialistas: género, política, lo digital) resultó altamente productivo por la contribución intelectual de ideas y contenido de las ponencias sobre género, metodologías, política y culturas digitales que partían del marco del nuevo materialismo.
