Subversivos modernos: Althusius, Spinoza e Rousseau
In: Passagens: international review of political history & legal culture, Band 15, Heft 1, S. 69-85
ISSN: 1984-2503
Modern political theory is commonly referenced by the clash between absolutism and liberalism to have emerged between the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. There are, however, thinkers who built elements beyond the modern State and who inform the current democratic debate. As such thinkers are historically modern, but theoretically contemporary, they are modern subversives. This article provides a comparative analysis of the political ideas of three theorists who may be considered as modern subversives: the German Johannes Althusias, the Dutchman Baruch Espinosa, and the Genevan to have settled in France, Jean Jacques Rousseau. These thinkers discussed the themes of popular sovereignty, the democratic power of the multitude, and on the general will as overcoming representation. What unites them is the radical and subversive desire to establish, against any form of oppression, the demos as sovereign. Reconsidered in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, these authors have not only informed the contemporary debate on democracy, but also contributed to the very renewal of political theory.
Kinematic interpretation of shearband boudins : new parameters and ratios useful in HT simple shear zones
Shearband boudins (asymmetric boudins showing slip along the inter-boudin surface, which is synthetic with respect to the bulk shear sense) are ubiquitous and well-exposed in HT simple shear zones. The present work aims to extend the methodology of analysis of shearband boudins developed by Goscombe and Passchier (2003). Such shearband boudins represent complex objects that require an adequate methodology for unambiguous kinematic interpretation. We propose new geometric parameters (Bbs, B-t, c', D', d, ψ') in order to describe and identify, with confidence, the kinematics of boudinage in this particular geological framework. The key-observation for kinematic interpretation in simple shear regimes is the boudin axis (Lb) that is commonly present, excluding the necessity to identify the regional stretching lineation (Lx) in the metasedimentary matrix. In monoclinic HT simple shear zones, this approach involves the use of a local displacement plane (Sx), which is always normal to the boudin axis (Lb). ; Partial funding to JP was provided by the Centro de Investigacao GeolUgica, Ordenamento e Valorizacao de Recursos that is supported by the Pluriannual program of the Fundacao para a Cilncia e a Tecnologia, funded by the European Union (FEDER program) and the national budget of the Portuguese Republic. Very insightful and helpful reviews were done by C. Fernandez (University of Huelva) and two reviewers, for which we are grateful. We want to acknowledge to T. Seismic zones for Azores based on statistical criteria
In: Natural hazards and earth system sciences: NHESS, Band 13, Heft 9, S. 2337-2351
ISSN: 1684-9981
Abstract. The objective of this paper is to define seismic zones in the Azores based on statistical criteria. These seismic zones will likely be used in seismic simulations of occurrences in the Azores Archipelago. The data used in this work cover the time period from 1915 to 2011. The Azores region was divided into 1° × 1° area units, for which the seismicity and the maximum magnitudes of events were calculated. The seismicity, the largest earthquakes recorded and the geological characteristics of the region were used to group these area units because similar seismic zones must delineate areas with homogeneous seismic characteristics. We have identified seven seismic zones. To verify that the defined areas differ statistically, we considered the following dissimilarity measures (variables): time, size and seismic conditions – the number of seismic events with specific characteristics. Statistical tests, particularly goodness-of-fit tests, allowed us to conclude that, considering these three variables, the seven earthquake zones defined here are statistically distinct.

Projet familial et condition noire dans le système d'éducation supérieur brésilien. Les jeunes étudiants du programme Abdias Nascimento
In: La revue internationale de l'éducation familiale, Band 52, Heft 2, S. 23-45
ISSN: 1279-7766

Commercial Aviation Safety, Sixth Edition
Completely revised to fully align with current U.S. and international regulations, this hands-on resource clearly explains the principles and practices of commercial aviation safety--from accident investigations to Safety Management Systems. Commercial Aviation Safety, Sixth Edition, delivers authoritative information on today's risk management on the ground and in the air. The book offers the latest procedures, flight technologies, and accident statistics. You will learn about new and evolving challenges, such as lasers, drones (unmanned aerial vehicles), cyberattacks, aircraft icing, and software bugs. Chapter outlines, review questions, and real-world incident examples are featured throughout.
Commercial aviation safety
"Presenting current practice and procedures from all major air traffic and regulatory agencies, this book covers the entire commercial aviation safety system--from human safety to accident investigation. Commercial aviation safety, fifth edition greatly expands the focus of the fourth edition to include the international and safety management systems (SMS) knowledge required by today?s aviation safety professional. Most aviation safety-related texts cover only issues related to the FAA and NTSB. However, as a practicing professional in the aviation field, one must also be knowledgeable about ICAO, SMS, OSHA, and EPA. This book delivers on this need. Offering a comprehensive analysis on the entire aviation safety system, this authoritative guide provides a broad understanding of aviation safety for students entering the field, and serves as a handy reference for the practicing aviation safety professional. Commercial aviation safety, fifth edition: now includes International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) regulations provides organization and rule-making process of all four relevant regulatory agencies in one place; contains expanded accident causation models Features new research on human factors in aviation safety offers new information on air traffic control and aircraft safety systems Includes updated airport and airline safety information; contains a new chapter on Safety Management Systems (SMS); provides knowledge on hot-button safety topics like runway incursions and security student learning features: chapter outlines with each major topic covered chapter objectives after the outline Heavily illustrated with tables, figures, and exhibits Key terms--each chapter ends with a listing of key terms used in the text review questions at the end of each chapter cover all the important points. A listing of suggested readings included after each chapter ".
