Rural areas in Italy are not entirely new to international immigration, but they recently experienced a huge diversification of flows, including labour and amenity migrants and, due to relocation strategies, asylum-seekers and refugees. In places with limited resources and experience of diversity, such processes can originate new challenges, but also new opportunities. Therefore, this work investigates incorporation policies of Italian rural municipalities with quantitative and qualitative methods. First, k-medians clustering is used to classify rural municipalities according to immigration patterns and to better understand their immigrant policy activism. Second, semi-structured stakeholders' interviews are performed to explore actual practices of active rural municipalities. Results show how rural policymakers can develop alternative and innovative strategies to deal with incorporation, but these have different outcomes according to local opportunity structures and contexts of immigration.

I study how the relative efficiency of high- and low-skill labor varies across countries. Using microdata for countries at different stages of development, I document that differences in relative quantities and wages are consistent with high-skill workers being relatively more productive in rich countries. I exploit variation in the skill premia of foreign-educated migrants to discriminate between two possible drivers of this pattern: cross-country differences in the skill bias of technology and in the relative human capital of skilled labor. I find that the former is quantitatively more important, and discuss the implications of this result for development accounting. (JEL I26, J24, J31, J61, L16, O15)

La ricerca si concentra sull'applicazione del concetto di super-diversità nel particolare contesto della città di Roma, focalizzandosi in modo particolare sulle implicazioni riguardanti la diversità nelle relazioni sociali. A questo scopo, la prima parte rielabora alcuni aspetti teorici al fine di combinare il quadro relativo alla super-diversità con una prospettiva intersezionale e applicarlo ad un contesto non tradizionalmente multiculturale e di immigrazione relativamente recente. La seconda ha invece come oggetto la creazione di un indice quantitativo per l'individuazione di contesti di potenziale super-diversità tramite la combinazione di vari indicatori sulla base dei dati relativi ai quartieri romani. Infine, il terzo capitolo presenta uno studio di campo in uno specifico quartiere romano, il Quadraro, selezionato sulla base dell'indice sopra citato. Tale studio è stato condotto attraverso un'analisi esplorativa delle reti sociali di un campione di abitanti al fine di approfondire la natura delle relazioni sociali fra diversi gruppi in un contesto di super-diversità emergente. The research aims to apply the framework of super-diversity in Rome, especially considering its implications for the study of diversity in social relations within this context. In this regard, the first chapter try to develop a theoretical framework, which allows to combine super-diversity with an intersectional perspective and apply it in a non-multicultural context with relatively recent immigration flows. Starting from these assumptions, in the second section we propose a quantitative index for the identification of emerging super-diversity contexts in Rome by using neighbourhoods as reference units. Finally, the last chapter concerns a fieldwork study in Quadraro neighbourhood, selected on the basis of the above-mentioned index. For that purpose, we set an explorative social networks analysis on a sample of inhabitants in order to deepen the nature of diversity in social relations within an emerging super-diversity context.

This book offers an innovative perspective on the ever-widening gap between the poor and the state in Latin American politics. It presents a comprehensive analysis of the main social movement that mobilized the poor and unemployed people of Argentina to end neoliberalism and to attain incorporation into a more inclusive and equal society. The piquetero (picketer) movement is the largest movement of unemployed people in the world. This movement has transformed Argentine politics to the extent of becoming part of the governing coalition for more than a decade. Rossi argues that the movement has been part of a long-term struggle by the poor for socio-political participation in the polity after having been excluded by authoritarian regimes and neoliberal reforms. He conceptualizes this process as a wave of incorporation, exploring the characteristics of this major redefinition of politics in Latin America.

The 19th and 2Oth December 2001, Argentina lived the rnost important social protest of its recent democratic history. During the first months of the protest, the irresolution of the institutional re-equilibriurn opened the political opportunities for the conformation of a new political actor, the assemblies movement, the one that would becorne a central actor until the institutional re-accommodation with the April 2003 presidential election. Is our goal to study from its origin in all its complexity the novel characteristics that this movement will assume. For this, we will support our study in the ethnographic observation done on the cases of the Asamblea Vecinal de Palermo Viejo and the Asamblea Popular Cid Campeador, from January 2002 to February 2003 . These cases can be considered representatives of the two groups that will compose the movement, defining their identity, organizational structure, as well as the repertoires of collective action that we will analyze in this article. ; Los días 19 y 20 de diciembre de 2001 se produjo la protesta social más importante que ha vivido la Argentina democrática reciente. La irresolución del reequilibrarniento institucional durante los primeros meses del estallido abre las oportunidades políticas para la conformación de un nuevo actor político, el movimiento asambleario, el cual será central hasta el reacomodamiento del sistema institucional con la elección presidencial de abril de 2003. El objetivo es estudiar desde su origen las novedosas características que asumirá este movimiento en toda su complejidad. Para ello, se analizará el estudio etnográfico realizado de enero de 2002 a febrero de 2003 en dos casos, la Asamblea Vecinal de Palermo Viejo y la Asamblea Popular Cid Campeador; los cuales se presentan como representativos de los dos grupos que conformarán al movimiento, y que definirán su identidad, estructura de organización, así como los repertorios de acción colectiva.
