In 2020 COVID-19 caused global disruptions in the supply chain that are still showing ripple effects in mid-2022. Pandemics are not the only form of crisis that causes supply chain disruptions. With increasing instances of natural disasters, organizational misconduct, economic instability, and political unrest, crisis management has become a growing issue within businesses and the supply chain field. This article examines the previous literature on crisis management by identifying the types of crises that will affect a focal firm's suppliers in the chain, and how those types of crises will affect the supply chain. We continue by adding response measures through creating modular design and modular innovation capability, which will not prevent the crisis but will drastically decrease supply disruption and thus decrease response time for the focal firm. Lastly, a model is created for future empirical research based off of the previous literature that shows how modular design and modular innovation capability can alleviate the damage of crises in the supply chain through greater agility, flexibility, and adaptability.

Includes bibliographical references. ; 2020 Spring. ; Rainwater harvesting (RWH) is a localized renewable water supply alternative that minimizes the necessary resources for beneficial use. Estimates for RWH potential vary, and past studies conclude that accurate modeling depends on variables like precipitation, demand, and tank volume. In Colorado, RWH potential is limited by the high irrigation rates required by traditional turfgrass landscaping in the semi-arid climate. Additionally, RWH storage volume is strictly regulated under Colorado water law for both residential rooftop runoff capture (decentralized) and neighborhood-scale stormwater harvesting (centralized). Historically, legal storage limitations have effectively prohibited RWH, but legislation in the last decade has increased viability of, and interest in, RWH as a renewable supply source. However, despite recent progress toward RWH, it remains unclear whether Colorado has appropriate policy, infrastructure, and climate conditions to develop RWH as viable water supply. This research furthers our understanding of the practical viability of RWH in Colorado and finds that current allowable harvesting practices can provide for residential irrigation when demand is limited by landscaping area and vegetation type. Established and novel modeling methodologies are used to evaluate water quality treatment for stormwater harvesting, to develop estimates of allowable harvest volume for centralized harvesting, and to estimate supply yield potential for both centralized and decentralized RWH. We tested the sufficiency of one- and twoparameter linear models for predicting stormwater treatment effluent quality and conclude that monitoring studies should more thoroughly report parameters to support more complex treatment models for better treatment estimates. A state-approved water rights accounting method and tool were developed to support centralized RWH pilot projects; the tool lowers the barrier to entry for pilot participants and represents an innovative expansion of Colorado's water administration practices. Finally, the potential yield of residential RWH was simulated with different supply and demand variables. We conclude that RWH potential is most limited by irrigation demand, and that changes in precipitation and storage volume have the largest effect on increasing yield when irrigation demand is lowest.

Solar crosses were symbolic markers that once punctuated the rolling pathways at the foot of the French Pyrenees. For Henri Lefebvre, these "crucified suns" came to symbolize a number of time-tested traditions that could revitalize everyday life in the modern world. His efforts to resurrect the archaic confronted two contemporary contexts: the hypermodernization promoted throughout France's long Reconstruction and the degradation of provincial communities that attended it. A heretical Marxist, Lefebvre's social thought included a Romantic sensibility that was organically connected to southwestern France and Friedrich Nietzsche. Dialectical in nature, Lefebvre's revolutionary Romanticism repurposed age-old styles of symbolic expression and cyclical recurrence in order to transform everyday life and keep the deracinating forces of modernization at bay. The French sociologist's enduring interest in archaic traces, and his belief that they might one day be revived, reorients how we approach his landmark studies on space and time in the modern city.

The Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liabiltiy Act, commonly known as CERCLA, facilitates cleanup of hazardous waste sites and those contaminated by other harmful substances by empowering the Environmental Protection Agency to identify responsible parties and require them to undertake or fund remediation. Because pollution sometimes occurrs over long periods of time by multiple parties, CERCLA also enables polluters to seek financial contribution from other contaminators of a particular site. The Ninth Circuit clarified the particuar circumstances under which contribution actions may arise in Asarco LLC v. Atlantic Richfield Co., holding non-CERCLA settlements may give rise to CERCLA contribution actions, and corrective measures imposed under different environmental statutes may qualify as response actions required for a responsible party to seek contribution from another. In addition, the court clarified what constitutes resolved liability in such situations, another prerequisite for contribution actions. That final determination led it to vacate a district court's grant of summary judgment in favor of Atlantic Richfield based on an erroneous conclusion that Asarco, in seeking financial contribution from Atlantic Fichfield for remediating a CERCLA site both had contaminated, exceeded the applicable statute of limitations. The case was thus remanded for further proceedings consistent with this opinion.

While successful performance in terms of cost savings for firms expanding beyond their home boundaries has been well noted in the literature. Other factors, such as product and process innovation gained through this global process, have not been well examined. The aim of this study is to answer four specific research questions: 1) What are the reasons for going global in today's economy? 2) How can a global supply chain lead to increased innovation? 3) What are the specific ways that companies can gain product and process innovation in a global supply chain? 4) What is a model that can be examined for future research?This literature review examines areas of human resource management and supply chain management through the theory of absorptive capacity in a rapidly expanding global environment. In addressing the four main questions, this review will present emerging research issues for global supply chains.

Designing a high frequency (HF) magnetic field direction finding (DF) array for use onboard a military aircraft is the challenge that drives the effort of the research presented. The frequency range of interest, 2-32 MHz, has a maximum wavelength (150 meters) that exceeds the maximum length of any platform in the USAF inventory. The large wavelengths in the HF range make it difficult to accurately estimate from which direction a magnetic field is emitting. Accurate DF estimates are necessary for search and rescue operations and geolocating RF emitters of interest. The primary goal of this research is to characterize the performance of the MGL-S8A (Multi-Gap loop) B-Dot sensor. Although the sensors are designed to operate at frequencies above 5 GHz, their small size and potential to accurately detect magnetic fields in the 2-32 MHz range make them likely to be one type of an ensemble of sensors in the design of a HF DF array. The sensors are characterized in the azimuthal angles of 0, 45, -45, 90, and -90 degrees. Each sensor is characterized using two different types of magnetic field generators: a transverse electromagnetic (TEM) cell and a Helmholtz coil. The TEM cell generates a consistent magnetic field that acts as the input to the B-Dot sensor. The second type of magnetic field generator used, which is the secondary objective of this research, is a Helmholtz coil. An ideally designed Helmholtz coil is intended to be an inexpensive alternative to help in the characterization of B-Dot sensors in the HF range. The sensors can accurately measure electromagnetic (EM) fields in the HF range. Although the detection capability of the sensors is good, small differences between the 0 and 45 degree measurements may make it difficult for the sensors to be used in a DF array.
