The aim of this paper is to analyze the persuasive and manipulative strategies and devices used in the political propaganda in the films of the Divergent Series. Special attention is paid to Insurgent, since the outbreak of a war between different ideological and political factions and the government is a breeding ground for manipulative, political strategies to persuade the population to side with the former or the latter, which they use to try to win. In this scenario, political discourse also serves both deterring rebellious Divergents threatening the established system and controlling the masses from the different factions. To this end, I follow the parameters of different theoretical frameworks, such as critical-political discourse analysis, Appraisal Theory –focusing on attitude or attitudinal positioning– and the phenomena of polarization and legitimation. The results will allow us to see how the political agents of the film managed to influence their audiences with their speeches by using rhetorical means, subjectivity to present situations, objects or people positively or negatively at the speaker's convenience or interests, and different types of power. ; El objetivo de este artículo es analizar las estrategias y recursos de persuasión y manipulación que se emplean en la propaganda política de las películas de la trilogía Divergente. Mención especial recibe la segunda, Insurgente, pues el estallido de la guerra entre las diversas facciones políticas e ideológicas es caldo de cultivo de estrategias políticas manipulativas para persuadir a la población y atraerla hacia un lado u otro con el propósito de ganar. Con estas premisas, el discurso político sirve tanto para disuadir a los Divergentes rebeldes que amenazan el sistema establecido como para controlar a las masas de las diferentes facciones. Para el estudio sigo los parámetros de diferentes marcos teóricos, como el análisis crítico del discurso político, la Teoría de la Valoración –centrándome en la actitud– y los fenómenos de polarización y legitimación. Los resultados permiten observar cómo los agentes políticos de la película consiguen influir en la población que escucha sus discursos repletos de medios retóricos, subjetividad para presentar situaciones, objetos o personas de manera positiva o negativa según los intereses y conveniencia del emisor, y diferentes tipos de poder.

On November 7th 2012, after being re-elected as the President of the United States, Barack Obama devoted some words in his acceptance speech to the First Lady as his first supporter. The world's media generally acknowledged this statement as something more than a mere formality, due to the active role played by Michelle Obama, which was considered decisive for the final result of this disputed electoral race. This paper seeks to study the various strategies employed throughout the 2012 US Presidential Campaign by analyzing her official speeches and comparing them to those of her husband and other direct influences. The analysis of persuasive figurative language in a corpus consisting of the speeches delivered in the last four months of the campaign is based on approaches by Lakoff and Johnson (1980) and Charteris-Black (2004) and may allow us to identify her tools of political persuasion. ; En su discurso de aceptación tras su reelección como Presidente de los Estados Unidos de 7 de noviembre de 2012, Barack Obama agradecía a la Primera Dama su apoyo incondicional. La prensa internacional se hacía eco de hasta qué punto la afirmación traspasaba el plano de lo personal y la mera fórmula protocolaria, dada la gran implicación activa de Michelle Obama, considerada como un factor decisivo dentro de un complicado marco electoral. Nuestro propósito es el estudio de las claves de su diversificada estrategia en los discursos para la campaña de las elecciones presidenciales de Estados Unidos de 2012, que se comparan con los de su marido y otras influencias directas. El análisis del lenguaje figurado persuasivo del corpus compuesto por los discursos pronunciados en los cuatro últimos meses de la campaña, bajo las premisas de los enfoques de Lakoff y Johnson (1980) y Charteris-Black (2004), pretende desentrañar sus herramientas de persuasión.

The emerging power of the Latino community has become a recurring reflection for most analyses of the United States of America over the last two decades. However, their presence on the media usually focuses on two factors: the increasing immigration of undocumented workers, mostly from Mexico, and their decisive condition as voters due to their presence in the so-called "swing" States, which provides specific power to the Hispanic population to choose the President, especially when they are as disputed as the 2012 general elections. Barack Obama, whose presidential rhetoric has been extensively studied, decided to change his immigration policies during his campaign and to adapt his speech accordingly. It is our aim to study his rhetoric and figurative language as a means of electoral persuasion by analyzing two of his most representative speeches specifically addressed to a Latino audience: "Remarks by the President at the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials Annual Conference" (2012) and "Remarks by the President on Comprehensive Immigration Reform" (2013) under those theoretical approaches of the Political Discourse Analysis, the Critical Discourse Analysis and the Corpus Approach to Critical Metaphor Analysis, at the same time based on the Conceptual Metaphor Theory, so as to perceive how the presidential speech deals with the Hispanic community. The findings analyze the frequent appeals to movement, justice and personal and local references in the form of acknowledgement together with a predominant use of conceptual metaphors on the American dream. His metaphors prove this concept is conceived by him as a path forward to citizenship, and his use of them, so common in Obama's discourse, makes him devote once again his addresses to Latinos to the uniqueness of the United States, provided by the mosaic of cultural juxtaposition. ; El poder emergente de la comunidad latina en Estados Unidos se ha convertido en referencia casi obligada en los análisis de la situación de este país en las ...
