The Kolomak Council of July 25, 1687 and its venue
The purpose of the research is to study the realities of the Kolomak Council of July 25, 1687, to discover the main participants in the election of the hetman, as well as to identify the location of the participants in the important event. The methods of the research, which were selected in accordance with the purpose, are based on the principle of historicism. The methods of historiographical analysis and synthesis, problem-chronological, retrospective and comparative methods are applied. Scientific novelty. Based on the analysis of the collected sources it is stated for the first time that the most active participants in the overthrow of the hetman took the leading officers' governments on July 24 as a reward for supporting the next day the nominee by V. Golitsyn, the candidate for the mace of General Osavul, Ivan Mazepa. The candidate for the highest post in the autonomy and his patron, the chief official of Muscovy, did not influence the distribution of colonel positions and general governments among the opposition. The publication refuted the research version about the holding of the Kolomak Council in the village Kolomak in Kharkiv region. The arguments presented in the study provide additional evidence in favor of the fact that the place of election of I. Mazepa as hetman was one of the valleys near Chutovy in the Poltava region. Conclusions. The Kolomak Council was held under the supervision of Muscovy's chief government official, Vasily Golitsyn. It did not elect the opposition leader, but the man whom the commander-in-chief of the Russian army, the head of the Ambassadorial Order, had known for many years as a skilled diplomat. The new hetman did not select his team of starshyna officers, so from the first days of his rule he had problems with the appointed government officials, who looked more at Moscow than at him.
