Perception and management of solid waste stemming from the public urban space : the Case of Bobo-Dioulasso (Burkina Faso).
The management of urban waste is one of the most preoccupying environmental issues for the town of Bobo-Dioulasso. To better understand this state of affairs, this study, based on market studies of Colma and Colsama, aims to describe the logics of inhabitants in the management of solid wastes in the public urban space and formulate partial answers for this environmental issue. The outcome shows that in addition to the lack of financial resources with which the public authorities are confronted, the behaviours and practices of the inhabitants contribute to damaging the urban environment. They undertake individual as well as collective initiatives to clean out the public urban areas. However, for a sustainable management of urban waste, the involvement of all the stakeholders concerned would appear to be indispensable in the long run.
