Objective: to describe the implications of social and cultural factors for instrumental activities of daily living of elderly people who participate of an interaction group. Methods: qualitative study, of ethno-nursing type, performed with 35 elderlies of a university extension project. Data collection was based on on-site observations, field journal and interviews. Analysis of the data was carried out in four phases proposed by ethno-nursing. Results: information technology, mobile telephones, accessibility to urban space, low education levels, as well as the slowness associated with the aging process influenced daily activities performance and impact on their functional capacity. Conclusion: cultural values and ways of life were expressed in daily habits that characterized the old way of being, a gerontology culture. Political, legal, friendship and social factors were described.
ABSTRACT Objective: to assess the results of the ethical-professional supervision of nursing in long-term care facilities fined with administrative procedure. Method: this is a retrospective study, with documentary analysis and quantitative approach. The study site will be the Department of Supervision of the Regional Nursing Council in the State of Rio de Janeiro. The census sample will include 159 administrative processes with detailed reports in long-term care facilities. In the data collection instrument, they will be identified through codes. The data collected will be organized into electronic databases: Microsoft Excel 2007 spreadsheets. The research project was approved by the Research Ethics Committee, under the CAAE nº 29106814300005243. Expected results: to assess the impact of the supervision in promoting the quality of nursing care to elderly people living in long-term care institutions, as well as the development of a protocol for the operation of long-term care facilities in line with the regulation of the professional exercise of nursing and related legislations. Objective: to map the free terms of nursing records and compare with the Nursing Diagnosis classification. Method: quantitative, documentary and retrospective approach, cross mapping type. There were 30 medical records analyzed of elderly women with psychiatric disorders living in two long-term institutions. The data collection took place in from August 2013 to March 2013 in two stages. Results: diagnostics more occurring were: ineffective health self-control; Impaired swallowing; Self-care deficit for intimate and bath hygiene; Impaired physical mobility; Decreased cardiac output; Ineffective peripheral tissue perfusion; Chronic confusion; Dysfunctional family processes; Teething impaired and falls risk. They are related to the physiological and biopsychosocial aspects. Conclusion: this findings point to the complexity and comprehensiveness of care provided in the context of mental health, using classification systems in this context to contribute to the advancement of knowledge and to compare them.
Objective: To analyze the results of planning postoperative hospital discharge in the elderly. Method: This was a multiple cases study with a quantitative approach using the following research techniques: semistructured interviews, observation, documental survey and follow-up by telephone in a sample of 12 elderlies. Results: Reports of significant improvement in infection control were observed after hospital discharge, 100% of the sample demonstrated the ability to identify at least two risk factors for infection. There was an increased adherence to the therapeutic regimen with a significant increase of 83.4% of outpatient medical care and maintenance of the use of prescribed medications. Study's purpose:To analyze the effectiveness of telephone intervention for the nursing diagnosis of delayed surgical recovery in older persons who have undergone cataract surgery.Design:Blinded, randomized, and controlled trial. A total of 95 patients of both sexes who were over 60 years old and had undergone cataract surgery were divided into an intervention group (48 patients) and a control group (47 patients), allocated using BioEstat 5.3 Software.Results:The intervention included postoperative follow-up recovery of cataracts and prevention of complications performed on the 1st, 4th, 10th, and 20th postoperative days. After the intervention, the intervention group had a decrease in the length of surgical recovery ( p = .000). The occurrence in the intervention group was 6.3%, while in the control group, it was 36.2% (odds ratio (OR) = 0.118; confidence interval (CI) = 1.02, 10.23). The number of nursing interventions nevertheless decreased during the telephone follow-up.Conclusion:For older persons, the telephone guidelines increase adherence to treatment, promote clinical improvement, promote surgical recovery over time, and improve independence and autonomy.
Objective: To identify in elderly people on surgery the need to move and maintain desirable postures; to evaluate the outcome of interventions for the need in a study group. Method: This is a quantitative and quasi-experimental study, conducted with 30 elderly in the postoperative in hospital in Rio de Janeiro. It was used for data collection the protocol for evaluation of basic needs second Virginia Henderson and for the experimental group was used the healthcare. Results: The main needs identified were painful to jogging, decreased joint flexibility, bed restriction, balance disorders, decreased strength and muscular endurance. From the 40 identified needs in the experimental group could be reduced 8 and in the control group from 35 were reduced to 3, obtained Oddis Ratio (0R) of 2,66. Conclusion: There was significant improvement in the experimental group and the reduction of the identified problems when compared to the control group.
