The Sabor River basin is a large basin (3170 km(2)) located in the northeast of Portugal and used mostly for agroforestry. One problem this basin faces is a lack of water during the dry season, when there is a higher demand for water to irrigate crops. To solve this problem, the Portuguese government created a National Irrigation Program to finance new irrigation areas and improve existing ones. Consequently, it is necessary to evaluate the past and future water availability for agricultural and domestic consumption in the basin. This was done through the development of a hydrological and water allocation model. The Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) was used to model the hydrological processes that took place in the catchment between 1960 and 2008. The MIKE HYDRO Basin was used to simulate water allocation (irrigation and domestic consumption) in a historical view and under two scenarios. The historical view used the time period 1960–2008, and the two scenarios used the same time period but with an increase in the irrigated area. The first scenario simulated the irrigation of the total irrigable area that exists in the basin. The second scenario simulated a 29% increase in the olive grove area and a 24% decrease in the resident population, according to the projection for 2060. The results show that, in the historical view, the average annual water demand deficit was 31% for domestic consumption and 70% for irrigation, which represent 1372 × 10(3) m(3) and 94 × 10(6) m(3) of water, respectively. In the two scenarios, the water demand deficit increased to 37% for domestic consumption and 77% for irrigation. In the first scenario, the average annual water demand deficit was 183 × 10(6) m(3) of water for irrigation. In the second scenario, the average annual water demand deficit was 385 × 10(3) m(3) of water for domestic consumption, and 106 × 10(6) m(3) of water for irrigating the expanded olive grove area. Este estudo tem o objetivo de refletir acerca da aplicabilidade do espaço quadripolar na pesquisa experimental. Trata-se de um ensaio teórico-reflexivo, fundamentado no referencial do espaço quadripolar da pesquisa, que promoveu uma reflexão acerca do tema proposto, com o propósito de uma aprendizagem teórico-reflexiva a partir da imersão nos contextos dos estudos experimentais para tecer uma análise crítica das vantagens de sua aplicação. O espaço quadripolar da pesquisa é um lugar de alinhamento do conhecimento em uma pesquisa. Esse espaço procede uma visão global do processo de pesquisa, considerando a sua atividade complexa e multidimensional, que requer uma atenção cuidadosa em todas as suas dimensões. A aplicação do espaço quadripolar nas pesquisas experimentais torna-se inovadora, possibilitando que o sujeito cognoscente enxergue o objeto cognoscível de maneira global, reduzindo/eliminando as possíveis fragilidades e viabilizando a execução das pesquisas experimentais. Verifica-se que a aplicação do espaço quadripolar nas pesquisas experimentais promove clareza e coerência na definição dos objetivos da pesquisa, seleção adequada de métodos e técnicas, rigor metodológico e resultados robustos e confiáveis.
ABSTRACT Objective: to identify knowledge production about Bauhinia genus plants on its popular therapeutic use and pharmacological studies in Brazilian research. Method: integrative review, where the databases LILACS, MEDLINE and Scopus and SciELO virtual library were consulted from descriptors: Bauhinia; Brazil; ethnobotany; folk medicine; medicinal plants; bioassay and anti-infective agents. Some of the inclusion criteria were studies conducted in Brazil, ethnobotanical studies and experimental with proven activities. Results: the analysis of 51 articles showed an improvement in the ethnobotanical and pharmacological research, which may be related to major government initiatives, but there are few studies that prove the many popular uses for hundreds of species of that genus. Conclusion: the compilation of this information can help in the realization of future pharmacological studies of not yet evaluated species that can be included in RENISUS and listed on the RENAME, to be officially prescribed in the public health system. Os critérios de inclusão foram: pesquisas realizadas no Brasil, estudos etnobotânicos e experimentais com atividades comprovadas. Resultados: a análise dos 51 artigos demonstrou um avanço nas pesquisas etnobotânicas e farmacológicas, o que pode estar relacionado às importantes iniciativas governamentais, mas poucos são os estudos que comprovem as inúmeras utilizações populares para as centenas de espécies do referido gênero. Conclusão: a compilação de dessas informações pode oferecer subsídios na realização de futuros estudos farmacológicos de espécies ainda não avaliadas que podem ser incluídas na RENISUS e listadas na RENAME, para assim serem oficialmente prescritas no Sistema Único de Saúde. The main objective of this study was to investigate the relationships between land use and future scenarios of land changes on water runoff and groundwater storage in an Environmental Protection Area (EPAs) watershed. The methodology was based on the application of the Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) hydrological modelling to investigate flow simulations in current land use and in two future scenarios (forest and pasture). The performance of goodness-of-fit indicators in the calibration (NSE = 0.82, R2 = 0.85, PBIAS = 11.9% and RSR = 0.42) and validation (NSE = 0.70, R 2 = 0.72, PBIAS = −4% and RSR = 0.55) was classified as good and very good, respectively. The model accurately reproduced the inter-annual distribution of rainfall. The spatial distribution of average annual surface flow, lateral flow, and groundwater flow were different between sub-basins. The future scenario on land use change to forest (FRSE) and pasture (PAST) differed during the year, with greater changes on rainy and dry seasons. FRSE increase of 64.5% in area led to decreased surface runoff, total runoff, and soil water; and increased lateral flow, groundwater, and evapotranspiration. The effect of the natural vegetation cover on soil moisture content is still unclear. The hydrological model indicated the main areas of optimal spatial water flow. Considering economic values, those areas should encourage the development of government policies based on incentive platforms that can improve environmental soil and water sustainability by establishing payment for environmental services (PES).
