Organocatalytic enantioselective hydrophosphonylation of aldehydes
We report our results concerning the first squaramide-catalysed hydrophosphonylation of aldehydes. In all cases, the reactions proceeded smoothly and cleanly under mild reaction conditions rendering final α-hydroxy phosphonates in very good yields and high enantioselectivities. It is one of the few organocatalytic examples of this reaction using aldehydes. It is the first time that diphenylphosphite (1e) has been successfully employed in a chiral Pudovik reaction with aldehydes, in contrast to the dialkylphosphites used in previously published procedures, extending the generality of this asymmetric methodology. © 2014 The Royal Society of Chemistry. ; We thank the Spanish Ministry of Economía y Competitividad (MEC CTQ2010-19606 and CTQ2011-27593) and the Government of Aragón (Zaragoza, Spain Research Group E-10) for financial support of our research. From imidazole toward imidazolium salts and N‑heterocyclic carbene ligands: electronic and geometrical redistribution
Investigations dealing with N-heterocyclic carbenes and their derivatives are usually centered on the influence that they exert by acting as catalysts, ionic liquids, or metallodrugs and consequently on their capabilities to tune the properties and reactivity of these systems. In this context, we aimed to focus on the internal molecular changes undergone by imidazole derivatives, from electronic and geometrical points of view. This work represents an empirical evidence of the molecular modifications that an imidazole skeleton undergoes upon protonation, alkylation, and metalation. ; Financial support from the University of Zaragoza (UZ2015-CIE-09) is kindly acknowledged. Dinuclear silver and gold bisNHC complexes as drug candidates for cancer therapy
We report four dinuclear silver(I) and gold(I) complexes containing two different bidentate N-heterocyclic carbene ligands (bisNHC). One of these complexes 4, shows strong and selective anticancer activity against the human ovarian cancer cell line A2780. Mechanistically, 4 enhances the oxidative stress by stimulating reactive oxygen species production and inhibiting the scavenging activity of thioredoxin reductase. Our findings provide evidence that tuning ligand and electronic properties of metal-NHC complexes can modulate their reactivity and selectivity and it may result in potential novel anticancer drugs. ; We acknowledge financial support from Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación, Spain (RTI2018-096323-B-I00), the Marie Curie Career Integration Grants (PCIG12-GA-2012-33835), the Max Planck Society (MPG Partner Group), the Aragon Government (E42_20R) and the University of Zaragoza. ; Peer reviewed

Transport services considered as active factors in Regional Development Policies : A study of seven East Andalusian low density areas ; Los servicios de transporte, instrumentos de política territorial: Análisis de siete áreas de baja densidad en Andalucía Oriental
This paper anins to present the main findings of research carried out by the authors for the Regional Planning Office. Its general purpose was to consider transport in low-density areas as a tool in the Regional Planning framework and to apply the conclusions, to the specific case of Sierra del Segura (Jaén). A study method for territorial characterics and special issues related to transport in rural low-density areas has been developed: this method allows for an assessment of needs and definition of policies. As a first step the validity of several matters with a bearing on have been reviewed. The Spanish law and international experiences. Seven areas have been studied and the general conclusions suggest that transport services can become important means towards specific goals in Regional Planning for low-density areas.

The Spanish society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (SENPE) and its relation with healthcare authorities
It has been well documented in medical literature that hyponutrition is a common issue at all healthcare levels, from primary to specialized health care, as well as geria - tric healthcare facilities. This problem is not limited to countries with scarce economic resources or limited social development; it is also a universal issue in Europe. Hyponutrition increases the rates of morbidity, mortality, hospital admissions, and hospital stay. These higher figures also represent a higher use of healthcare resources. In spite of this, hyponutrition may often go undetected and the patient may not receive the necessary treatment. This problem requires the cooperation of multiple agents such as the Governments, the healthcare professionals, and the citizens themselves. The VIII Discussion Forum concludes on the need to establish a clear-cut plant for action (similar to the European Alliance for Health Nutrition) and the creation of a platform (coalition) encompassing the voices of healthcare professionals associations, institutions, professional colleges, patients associations, the pharmaceutical companies, and insurance companies. The goals of this platform will be to inform about the extent of this issue, to identity and promote leaders that will convey the aims of this initiative to regional and national healthcare authorities, to present solutions and to collaborate in their implementation, and finally to assess/control the actions taken

The International Declaration on the Right to Nutritional Care and the fight against Malnutrition: Cartagena Declaration ; Declaración Internacional sobre el Derecho al Cuidado Nutricional y la Lucha contra la Malnutrición: Declaración de Cartagena ; Declaração Internacional sobre o Direito ao Cuida...
Faced with the need to promote the right to nutritional care, to fight against malnutrition and to advance in education and research in clinical nutrition, all the FELANPE's societies signed on May 3 during an extraordinary assembly in the city of Cartagena, the International Declaration on the Right to Nutritional Care and the fight against Malnutrition, "Declaration of Cartagena". The Declaration provides a coherent framework of thirteen principles which can serve as a guide for societies, schools and associations affiliated to FELANPE in the development of action plans. In addition, it will serve as an instrument to promote, through governments, the formulation of policies and legislation in the field of clinical nutrition. We believe that the general framework of principles proposed by the Declaration can contribute to raise awareness about the magnitude of this problem and to forge cooperation networks among Latin-American countries. Although this Declaration does not have a binding legal effect, it has undeniable moral force and can provide practical guidance to States. We will then be contributing to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals which aim to put an end to all forms of malnutrition by 2030.

The European LeukemiaNet: achievements and perspectives
The only way to cure leukemia is by cooperative research. To optimize research, the European LeukemiaNet integrates 105 national leukemia trial groups and networks, 105 interdisciplinary partner groups and about 1,000 leukemia specialists from 175 institutions. They care for tens of thousands of leukemia patients in 33 countries across Europe. Their ultimate goal is to cure leukemia. Since its inception in 2002, the European LeukemiaNet has steadily expanded and has unified leukemia research across Europe. The European LeukemiaNet grew from two major roots: 1) the German Competence Network on Acute and Chronic Leukemias; and 2) the collaboration of European Investigators on Chronic Myeloid Leukemia. The European LeukemiaNet has improved leukemia research and management across Europe. Its concept has led to funding by the European Commission as a network of excellence. Other sources (European Science Foundation; European LeukemiaNet-Foundation) will take over when the support of the European Commission ends.
