; The paper examines the statistic depiction of Mexico that Humboldt provides in his "Essai politique sur le Royaume de la Nouvelle Espagne" as a specific form of processing and representing data obtained from different sources in order to create a new object. Towards the beginning of the 19th century, topographic diagram systems had replaced the statistic tables. This development made possible a new economy and operationality of data: it thus became possible to make visible, legible, transferable and storable the biggest amount of data with the less possible amount of signs, in a visual space in which formulas, writing and images overlap and the traditional limits between text and image disappear. The use of these techniques, applied to observe both nature and society, gave place to a second "scientific discovery" of the Americas.

It is only recently, with the increasing interest in origami and folding in natural sciences and the humanities, that the fold as a new conception in a whole range of disciplines has begun to be conceived in a broader way. Folding as a material and structural process offers a new methodology to think about the close relationship of matter, form and code. It henceforth crosses out old dichotomies, such as the organic and the inorganic or nature and technology, and blurs the boundaries between experimental, conceptual and historical approaches. This anthology aims to unfold this new interdisciplinary field and its disciplinary impact, ranging from materials science, biology, architecture, and mathematics to literature and philosophy.

Material Trajectories: Designing With Care? turns towards material-driven design processes with the aim of relocating technoscientific trajectories. Concerned with new forms of caretaking, it combines positions from the extended fields of design research and humanities scholarship including practice-based approaches. The contributions explore current ecological conditions through multiple acts of making-with and seek to complicate questions of sustainability, livability, and cooperation. In reassessing the status quo in design and architecture as material practices, they provide outlines for a nuanced reading of these worldmaking processes and ask what different ways of designing with care and complicity might entail.
