; This article deals with the career of Gustav Krukenberg, who was first a secretary of the Franco-German 'Mayrisch Committee' in the 1920s, then headed German Radio in 1933, and became a supervisor of the French SS division 'Charlemagne' at the end of the war, before advocating Franco-German reconciliation as a leading member of the association of German Heimkehrer (repatriated former prisoners of war) in the 1960s. This article sketches three different types of European and rapprochement policy which owed more to a conservative and authoritarian conception of Europe than to a liberal and democratic one. Krukenberg held numerous lectures especially during the 1960s in which he drew on a Christian and occidental view of history which completely overlooked the period from 1933 to 1945. His appeal to 'Europe' functioned as a connecting element in very different political constellations and gave rise to an astonishing awareness of continuity.

The article focuses on the last years of the eminent French historian and co-founder of the Annales-school, Marc Bloch who was killed in 1944 by the Nazis. The main point of discussion lies upon Bloch's last two books which were published only after his death: L'étrange défaite and the unfinished Apologie pour l'histoire ou Métier d'historien, a text which provides us with the summa of Bloch's concept of history. The article shows how the genuine scientific concept of history, Bloch had developed, led him to political activity and joining the résistance-movement. The article also aims to discuss the possible content and to reconstruct some of the unwritten chapters of the Apologie. ; The article focuses on the last years of the eminent French historian and co-founder of the Annales-school, Marc Bloch who was killed in 1944 by the Nazis.

This article deals with the hitherto almost unknown intellectual and personal links between the founders of the Annales, Lucien Febvre and Marc Bloch, and Austrian historiography. Especially Bloch and his students commented widely on most of the work published by Alphons Dopsch and his students. Although critical of several of Dopsch's main positions, Bloch had cordial personal relations with the Viennese historian, and even contributed to his 1938 Festschrift, until the Anschluß made him withdraw his contribution. Furthermore, two Austrian emigrants, Lucie Varga and Franz Borkenau, played a decisive role inside the Annales circle itself by drawing the attention of Febvre and Bloch to Austrian and German topics and publishing several important articles. Being well prepared by his personal assistant Lucie Varga, Febvre made a journey to Vienna in 1935 where he gave two papers. He also met Dopsch who at the time had some political difficulties and invited him to write an article for the Annales. Back in Paris, Febvre continued to follow Austrian affairs with great interest and even published some small pieces on Austrian subjects. ; This article deals with the hitherto almost unknown intellectual and personal links between the founders of the Annales, Lucien Febvre and Marc Bloch, and Austrian historiography.
