Research on the link between childhood sexual abuse experiences (CSAE) and pedohebephilia is limited by its focus on events that the respondents rate as abusive. We asked 199 German-speaking (Study 1) and 632 English-speaking (Study 2) men with and without self-reported pedohebephilia to complete the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire (CTQ) and scales to assess perceived non-coercive childhood sexual experiences with adults (PNCSE-A), and peers (PNCSE-P, only Study 2). A substantial number of participants with PNCSE-A disagreed with all items of the CTQ Sexual Abuse subscale (e.g., 35% and 26% of pedohebephilic men in Studies 1 and 2, 38% of teleiophilic men in Study 2). While pedohebephilic men reported more CSAE than teleiophilic men, the effects for PNCSE-A did not consistently point in the expected direction. In Study 2, conviction status for sexual offenses among pedohebephilic men was linked to higher rates of CSAE, PNCSE-A, PNCSE-P, physical neglect, and physical abuse. Pedohebephilic men in Study 2 also reported more PNCSE-P than teleiophilic men. Our results highlight the importance of assessing different (positive or neutral) perceptions of CSAE. Better controlled designs (e.g., matched case-control studies) are needed to substantiate whether and how perceived non-coercive childhood sexual experiences relate to pedohebephilia and sexual offending.

Purpose: This prospective study investigated the predictive validity of Self-Control (SC) for several forms of criminal recidivism (general, property, violence, sexual). Design: N = 1838 male prisoners were interviewed while serving a prison sentence. Personality traits known to be related to SC served as operationalization of SC. Cluster analyses identified three clusters of SC-related traits: Emotion Regulation, Self-Assertion, and Effortful Control. Survival-analyses predicted recidivism, which was assessed using official data. The follow up period amounted to 72 months. Findings: The SC-related trait clusters significantly predicted general and violent reoffending, after controlling for established risk factors for recidivism (age, age at first offense, social status, previous youth detention, out-of-home placements, and length of imprisonment). However, trait clusters did not predict reoffending with a property offense. Offenders with violent or sex offenses in their criminal history showed different profiles on the trait clusters. Originality: SC is an important risk factor for violent recidivism. SC-related trait clusters should not be combined to form a single score, because essential information for risk profiles would be lost.

Although there is strong meta-analytical evidence that deviant sexual interest in children is a major risk factor for recidivism in child sex offenders, the assessment of deviant sexual interest with self-report or phallometric measures is problematic. As an alternative approach for assessment, the Explicit and Implicit Sexual Interest Profile (EISIP) is introduced. It features direct self-report and indirect latency-based measures (Implicit Association Tests [IATs] and viewing time measures) of sexual interest in adults and children. The reliability and validity of the EISIP was investigated using a selected sample of child sex offenders (n = 38) and offender (n = 37) and nonoffender (n = 38) controls. Among the indirect measures, viewing time measures showed higher reliability and convergent and criterion validity than the IATs. However, the IATs independently accounted for criterion variance in multivariate analyses. The combined indirect measures showed good discriminative validity between child sex offenders and controls.

Theoretischer Hintergrund: Neuere Ansätze der Schuldfähigkeitsbegutachtung machen auf das Problem der differentialdiagnostischen Abgrenzung von Dissozialität und störungsbedingtem Verhalten aufmerksam. Aus differentialtypologischer Sicht kommt dem Psychopathy-Konstrukt sensu Hare hierbei eine besondere Bedeutung zu. Fragestellung: In welchem empirischem Zusammenhang mit der Schuldfähigkeit lässt sich das Psychopathy-Konstrukt als Extrembeispiel des dissozialen Typus finden? Methode: Aus einer Inhaltsanalyse von 33 Schuldfähigkeitsgutachten liegen die PCL-R Scores vor. Hieraus werden Gruppenunterschiede berechnet, Zusammenhangsmaße für Gesamtscore und Einzelfaktoren mit den jeweiligen Schuldfähigkeitsgruppen und das Klassifizierungsvermögen. Ergebnisse: Es findet sich kein statistisch bedeutsamer Unterschied zwischen Schuld- und vermindert Schuldfähigen. Für Faktor 2 der PCL-R findet sich ein mäßiger Zusammenhang mit verminderter Schuldfähigkeit und eine geringe diskriminatorische Bedeutung. Diskussion: Die Befunde werden vor den historisch-konventionalen Forderungen von Justiz und Psychiatrie einerseits und entwicklungspsychologischer Befunde zum Phänomen der Dissozialität andererseits diskutiert.

ZusammenfassungDer Konsum von Missbrauchsabbildungen hat sich im Hellfeld in den letzten Jahren immer wieder verdoppelt. Dieses erhöhte Fallaufkommen stellt Polizei, Bewährungshilfe und forensische Therapeuten vor eine Vielzahl neuer Herausforderungen. In diesem Beitrag sollen daher aktuelle theoretische Modelle und empirische Erkenntnisse dargestellt werden, um Praktiker in ihrer täglichen Arbeit zu unterstützen. Im Einzelnen sollen das Ausmaß der Problematik und ätiologische Erklärungsmodelle dargestellt werden. Darauffolgend werden empirische Erkenntnisse zu Konsumenten von Missbrauchsabbildungen aufgeführt und diese mit Tätern, die zusätzlich auch Hands-On-Delikte begehen, verglichen. Ferner wird die Problematik von "Crossover"-Tätern diskutiert. Abschließend werden Ansätze vorgestellt, um Fälle in der polizeilichen Ermittlungsarbeit zu priorisieren sowie um das Rückfallrisiko von Konsumenten von Missbrauchsabbildungen vorherzusagen.

The Explicit and Implicit Sexual Interest Profile (EISIP) is a multimethod measure of sexual interest in children and adults. It combines indirect latency-based measures such as the Implicit Association Test (IAT), Viewing Time (VT), and explicit self-report measures. This study examined test–retest reliability and absolute temporal agreement of the EISIP over a 2-week interval in persons who were convicted of sexual offenses against children ( n = 33) and nonoffending controls ( n = 48). Test–retest reliability of the aggregated EISIP measures was high across the whole sample ( rtt = .90, intraclass correlation coefficient [ICC] = .90) with the IAT yielding the lowest retest correlations ( rtt = .66, ICC = .66). However, these indicators of relative reliability only quantify the temporal stability of individual differences within the group, not the detectability of individual change. Absolute temporal agreement as assessed via Bland–Altman plots ranged from one fourth to three thirds of a standardized unit in the sexual preference scores. This implies that individual change has to exceed medium to large standardized effect sizes to be distinguishable from spontaneous temporal variation in the EISIP measures. Overall, scores of combined measures were largely superior to single measures in terms of both absolute and relative reliability.

Fragestellung: Krankenhausabteilungen und psychiatrische Versorgungskliniken im Bereich der suchtmedizinischen Erwachsenenpsychiatrie werden, entsprechend dem allgemein steigenden Behandlungsbedarf, zunehmend auch mit dem Problem des exzessiven Konsums von Cannabis und Partydrogen konfrontiert. Gleichzeitig besteht ein Mangel an überprüften therapeutischen Konzepten. Es wurde daher ein speziell für junge Erwachsene mit Cannabis-/Partydrogenkonsum entwickeltes stationäres Behandlungsprogramm untersucht. Insbesondere wurde der Frage nach Gemeinsamkeiten und Unterschieden der Konsumentengruppe nachgegangen, sowie überprüft, ob ein gemeinsames Behandlungsangebot sinnvoll ist. </p><p> Methodik: Untersucht wurden soziodemographische und klinische Merkmale von Pat. mit problematischen Partydrogen- und Cannabiskonsum (n1 = 27, n2 = 69), die im Zeitraum vom 01.06.2005 bis 01.06.2008 in unserer Einrichtung stationär behandelt wurden. Die Symptombelastungen wurden mittels Selbstbeurteilungsskalen sowie eines semistrukturierten Interviews zu Beginn und zum Ende der stationären Behandlung erfasst und über Gruppenvergleiche ausgewertet. </p><p> Ergebnisse: Es ergeben sich zu beiden Messzeitpunkten keinerlei signifikante Gruppenunterschiede bei den substanzbezogenen und psychischen Merkmalen. Angst und interpersonale Probleme stellen die größten Belastungsfaktoren dar. Insgesamt ergeben sich für allgemeine psychische Faktoren höhere Belastungen als für substanzbezogene. Beide Gruppen profitieren in hohem Ausmaß von der stationären Behandlung. Es ergeben sich über alle untersuchten abhängigen Variablen hohe Effektstärken. </p><p> Schlussfolgerungen: Gemeinsame Behandlungsangebote für Partydrogen- und Cannabiskonsumenten sind sinnvoll. Komorbide psychische Störungen, insbesondere Angststörungen und interpersonale Probleme sollten bei der Behandlungsplanung berücksichtigt werden.

Abstract. Over the last decades several attempts in developing incrementally valid risk indicators above and beyond standard actuarial and dynamic risk assessment instruments have been undertaken without much success. The current review will summarize current developments regarding the validity of detailed crime scene analysis for forensic assessments of sexual offenders. To this end, this overview will focus on two issues: First, we will discuss the issue of sexual offender risk assessment based on crime scene information. Second, we will outline how crime scene behavior contributes to the assessment of sexual interest in children. In each section we will introduce the reader to new approaches and instruments for risk assessment and diagnosing pedophilic sexual interest based on crime scene information, respectively, and discuss their validity. Finally, we will discuss the implications of these recent developments for risk assessment, risk management, offender treatment, and future research.

From a dual-systems perspective, it has been proposed that predictive validity of whether individuals act out or stifle their reactive aggression will be maximized if (a) automatic and (b) controlled precursors of aggression are assessed and (c) situational boundaries in favor of acting out or restraining oneself are specified. In the present research we experimentally manipulated participants' self-regulatory efforts in an ego depletion paradigm and subsequently measured reactive aggression in the Taylor Aggression Paradigm. Assessing automatic and controlled precursors of reactive aggression via an Implicit Association Test of Aggressiveness (Agg-IAT) and self-report reactive aggressiveness questionnaire, respectively, we demonstrated a theoretically expected double dissociation: Reactive aggression of ego depleted individuals was predicted by the implicit measure whereas non-depleted participants' reactive aggression was predicted by their explicit self-reports. The results corroborate the usefulness of both explicit and implicit measures of aggressiveness and point to boundary conditions of these measures' predictive validity.
