The hypothesis of complete consumption risk-sharing suggests that only uninsurable national and international disturbances should affect the growth of the regional consumption. Therefore, the correlation among regional consumption growth rates should be high. This work analyzes the issue of regional consumption risk-sharing in Italy over the period 1971-93. The empirical evidence is mixed: consumption correlations are high but other formal tests suggest the relevance of idiosincratic effects. In conclusion, the overall degree of consumption risksharing appears to be less than perfect.
If the wage indexation rate is chosen discretionarily, a Left hand government lowers it in order to increase the output effects of surprise inflation, while a Right hand government prefers high indexation. These choices magnify the differences between the inflation rates preferred by the two parties. When binding commitments before the signature of the labor contract are possible, both parties prefer a higher wage indexation with respect to the discretionary situation, in order to reduce the inflationary bias.

The existence of long term or short term nominal ebt implies different dicretionary monetary policies. In absence of any monetization, long term debt leads to a lower inflation than short term debt. If debt monetization is possible, the lower inflation of long term case is traded off with the lower distortionary taxation in the short term case and no unambiguous conclusion can be reached.

This work extends the analysis of time inconsistency in monetary policy to the case of serial correlation in the level of production. In the one-shot discretionary equilibrium Inflation is higher than in the Barro-Gordon case. Over an infinite horizon, output persistence makes the conditions for a reputational equilibrium more likely to be met.

The role of economic factors, such as family income, the price of illegal reproductions of books, the enforcement rules and the expected penalties are considered the main determinants of the possible infringements of the copyright law. However, the comparison between individual economic gains and losses offers only a partial explanation, as also cultural individual habits and peer effects exert important influences. Using a unique dataset based on a survey conducted at the University of Bologna, Italy, this paper analyses empirically the relevance of socio-economic as well as cultural determinants in the decision process of using illegal copies of university textbooks. From a policy perspective, the analysis suggests that an effective enforcement of the copyright rules should take into account the cultural behavior and students' learning practices.
This paper is concerned with the role of the output-capital ratio in growth models. In the first part we highlight the behaviour of the output-capital ratio along the balanced growth path in the models of Solow (1956) and Romer (1986). In the second part we assess the stability of the ratio for some industrial countries.
Are restrictive monetary policies harmful to growth? The note aims at providing some empirical evidence to answer the question. A significant negative correlation between growth and real interest emerges over the period 1960-94; in the eighties this relationship strengthens. This result is in agreement with the traditional view of a long run positive link between growth and capital accumulation and a negative long run link between accumulation and the cost of capital. Moreover the outcome is in line with the view that links the slowdown in economic growth of the industrial countries over the last decades appears to the implementation of restrictive monetary policies
The paper analyses the evidence about the growth of the Italian regions over the period 1970-91; in particular it studies the beta-convergence across regions, the convergence of each region towards its possible steadystate equilibrium path and the existence of groups of regions sharing the same stochastic trend. Besides the specific results on Italian regions, the paper provides and analyses some applications of different econometric methods for the investigation of the growth process.
