Is Trump our contemporary Berlusconi? In 2015, Frank Bruni coined the term 'Trumpusconi' when the media noticed some similarities between the then US presidential candidate Donald Trump and Italy's former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi. At that time, while many Italians joked about Trump as a déjà-vu, scholars began to analyse these two political 'outsiders' in an attempt to imagine Trump's probable presidency by studying Berlusconi's career.Regardless of any political view, it is against this background that this work analyses these two political figures through discourse analysis, to understand whether their similarities go beyond their personality traits and lifestyles.The work is divided into two sections: the first part provides some information on Berlusconi and Trump's socio-cultural origins and educational backgrounds, their first steps in their real-estate careers, their progression into the world of media and politics, and their relationships with women. The second part of the study proposes a discourse analysis performed on a corpus of speeches held by each politician at the beginning of their political career, in order to understand whether their personalities and lifestyles are reflected in their idiolects.The book partially confirms the media's ideas about the 'Trumpusconi' phenomenon, acknowledging some similarities between the two moguls. However, it also shows that Berlusconi and Trump belong to two different eras: even if Berlusconi's lifestyle, language, scandals, and politics will continue to negatively and positively influence Italy for many years to come, the era of social media is leading the world towards models that differ from those of his time. Western politics is becoming ever more similar to a form of infotainment, and Trump is the perfect incarnation of this evolution. Only time will reveal his long-term legacy.

Abstract
Online activism can be expressed through many forms. While advocates claim that it is a fully-fledged form of
activism, opponents state that it is no more than vain 'slacktivism'. Against this background, this work analyses the
'#ChallengeAccepted' movement, which went 'viral' in July 2020 to raise awareness about femi(ni)cides in Turkey, in the aftermath
of the murder of the female student Pinar Gültekin. Focusing on the use of the hashtag via Twitter, the work embraces the perspective of online
activism as a "continuum of participation", composed of several levels. The results show how hashtag activism has worked as a means
of knowledge dissemination and action, and that also slacktivism has contributed to the cause, thanks to the "oxygen of
amplification" effect, which made users inform and get informed, refocus the campaign towards its original purpose when it digressed,
and distribute its message.

Abstract
The present paper is part of an overview of the discursive manifestations of the U.S. President Trump's sexist
attitudes and practices. Drawing upon Mills' model of sexism (2008) and Van Dijk's
socio-cognitive framework (2006), the study will analyse a corpus of all the negative
Tweets against women tweeted by President Trump since the beginning of his 2016 campaign (July 2015) to February 2019. The study sheds a light on how President Trump's vocabulary perpetuates a male-centric hierarchy. Considering
the outcome of the 2016 elections, it can be said that his ideology has had a significant impact, particularly amongst his
supporters. His political ascendency speaks to how these ideological beliefs risk to become dangerously ingrained in language and
society.

Over the last few years the diplomatic language of UN resolutions has repeatedly been questioned for the excessive presence of vagueness. In an era of expanding international contacts between different legal systems, international institutions such as the UN are constantly faced with the need to overcome cultural divergences of their recipient countries. In order to meet these requirements, UN diplomatic texts may use vague words quite extensively. Such terms, whose meaning is very flexible, variable and strictly dependent on context and interpretation, have been defined by Mellinkoff (1963: 21) as "weasel words". The use of vague terms could be connected to the genre of diplomatic texts, as resolutions should be applicable to every international contingency. However, excessive vagueness could also lead to biased or even strategically-motivated interpretations of resolutions, undermining their legal impact and triggering conflicts instead of diplomatic solutions. This doctoral thesis is based on two main research aims: A first section aims at investigating on whether the use of strategic vagueness in Security Council resolutions relating to Iraq has contributed to the breakout of the second Gulf war instead of a diplomatic solution of the controversy. Using the qualitative Discourse-Historical approach (Wodak 2000) and quantitative analysis tools (Antconc and Sketch Engine), special attention is given to the historical/political consequences of vagueness used in that framework, and to the study of vague 'weasel words' (Mellinkoff 1963), modals, and adjectives contained in the corpus. The hypothesis of intentional vagueness is further reinforced through an analysis of the American legislation related to the outbreak of the war, to reveal how the U.S. has interpreted UN legislation and to understand the purposes and consequences of vague language contained in it. A second section of the study was originated by the desire to understand whether the same patterns would be used in resolutions relating to the Iranian 2010 nuclear crises revealing a relationship between the choice of vague linguistic features and intent to use intentional vagueness as a political strategy. The findings indicate that: - Vagueness in resolutions has triggered the Iraqi conflict instead of diplomatic solutions. - Similar patterns can also be found in resolutions relating to the Iranian 2010 nuclear crises: although being less vague than the resolutions relating to Iraq in order to avoid the same historical consequences, the legislation related to the Iranian nuclear controversy still suggests the UN intentional use of some vague linguistic patterns as a political strategy.
