Obwohl seit einiger Zeit ein verstärktes Forschungsinteresse an Emmanuel Levinas Denken des Politischen, verbunden mit einer genaueren Inblicknahme der zentralen Begriffe des Dritten und der Gerechtigkeit aufgekommen ist, blieb bislang unklar, inwiefern aus Levinas intrinsisch 'ethischem' Denken in konkreterer Weise normative Konsequenzen zu ziehen sind. Diesem Desiderat versucht der vorliegende Beitrag nachzukommen. Das Levinassche Gerechtigkeitsdenken wird dabei so eingeführt, dass es zugleich als alternativer Entwurf und als produktive kritische Provokation für gegenwärtige Gerechtigkeitstheorien lesbar wird. Ausgehend von einer Rekonstruktion des alteritären Verständnisses ethischer Subjektivität, wie es Levinas insbesondere in Jenseits des Seins erarbeitet, wird ausgelotet, wie tragfähig Levinas ethische Konzeption plural alteritär durchfurchter Subjektivität für normative Gerechtigkeitsfragen ist. Aus einer Reflexion auf den Begriff des 'Dritten' werden einige konkrete Konsequenzen für das Denken gerechter Institutionen gezogen. ; Although for some time there has been an increased research interest in Emmanuel Levinas concept of the political, combined with a more precise analysis of the central concepts of the Third Person and justice, it remained unclear until now to what extent normative consequences follow from Levinas intrinsic "ethical" thoughts. This article tries to answer this question. Levinas concept of justice is presented in a way so that it can simultaneously be read as an alternative draft as well as a productive, critical provocation for current theories of justice. Based on a reconstruction of the alterity understanding of ethical subjectivity, as Levinas especially developed in his work "Otherwise than Being, or Beyond Essence", it is explored how reasonable Levinas ethical conception of subjectivity based on pluralistic alterity is for normative questions about justice. Following from a reflection of the concept of the Third Person, some specific consequences for just institutions are drawn.

AbstractFor some years now, the significance of truth for politics has been intensely debated under the buzzword "post-truth." However, this cannot hide the fact that political theory and philosophy have systematically neglected the relationship between truth and politics throughout their history. This article intends to remedy this desideratum by differentiating the various modes in which truth is referred to and invoked in the political field. To this end, the main strands of the post-truth debate are reconstructed and their shortcomings are pointed out. Second, based on a contrasting reading of Habermas and Foucault, possible starting points for systematizing the relationship between truth and politics are discussed. Third, and as a prolegomenon to such a systematization, the article proposes a cartography of political truth forms and relations along five fault lines: truth as foundation and de-foundation, truth as coercion and freedom, truth as virtue and scandal, truth as secret and transparency, and truth as knowledge and practice.

According to Latour, poststructuralist conceptions of critical inquiry are becoming increasingly outdated. In our "post-factual" era, attempting to expose facts as results of power-laden processes of social construction plays into the hands of anti-scientific obscurantists. This is not to say, however, that one ought to opt for some reductionist notion of objectivity. Instead, Latour proposes a new form of critical realism. While we agree with Latour about the necessity of widening our epistemological paradigm, we deem his critique of poststructuralism unfair and exaggerated. Moreover, we argue that he fails to account for the relationship between epistemology, power, and subjectivity. Since Foucault, on the other hand, succeeds where Latour falls short and probes into this very relationship, his is a form of critique that remains crucial to tackling the current crisis of truth.

En nuestra era "postfactual", intentar exponer los hechos como el resultado de procesos de construcción social cargados de poder acaba haciendo el juego de los oscurantistas anti-científicos. Sin embargo, esto no quiere decir que uno deba optar por una noción reduccionista de objetividad. En cambio, Latour propone una nueva forma de realismo crítico. Si bien estamos de acuerdo con Latour sobre la necesidad de ampliar nuestro paradigma epistemológico, consideramos que su crítica al posestructuralismo es injusta y exagerada. Además, sostenemos que ella no tiene en cuenta la relación entre epistemología, poder y subjetividad. Dado que Foucault, por otro lado, tiene éxito donde Latour se queda corto e investiga esta relación, la suya es una forma de crítica que sigue siendo crucial para abordar la crisis actual de la verdad.

Dieser Zeitschriftenschwerpunkt versammelt fünf Beiträge zum Spannungsverhältnis von Sprache, Ethik und Politik. Entgegen der traditionellen Fokussierung der Sprachphilosophie auf logische und epistemologische Fragestellungen unterstreicht der Schwerpunkt die Relevanz der Sprache in der Praktischen Philosophie. Damit verortet er sich im größeren Zusammenhang einer ethisch-politischen Wende zur Sprache nach dem linguistic turn, die seit Ende des 20. Jahrhunderts immer mehr an Kontur gewinnt. Diese Hinwendung zur Sprache in ihrer ethischen und politischen Dimension folgt der Einsicht, dass Sprache nicht nur unter epistemischen Vorzeichen verhandelt werden kann. Vielmehr sieht sich jede Reflexion auf Sprache unweigerlich mit einer irreduziblen Verschränkung von Epistemologie, Ethik und Politik konfrontiert. Sprachphilosophie im 21. Jahrhundert muss nicht zuletzt vor dem Hintergrund aktueller gesellschaftspolitischer Herausforderungen dieser Verschränkung Rechnung tragen. ; This special issue conjoins five articles on the interrelation of language, ethics, and politics. Against philosophy of languages traditional focus on logical and epistemological questions, the issue highlights the relevance of language in practical philosophy. It locates itself within the broader context of an ethico-political turn to language after the linguistic turn that gains momentum since the end of the 20th century. The orientation towards language in its ethical and political dimensions follows the insight that language cannot exclusively be conceived in epistemological terms. Rather, any thorough reflection on language is confronted with an irreducible entanglement of epistemology, ethics, and politics. This paper scrutinizes Bruno Latour's critique of contemporary critical theory. According to Latour, poststructuralist conceptions of critical inquiry are increasingly behind the times: in our "post-factual" era, attempts to expose facts as results of power-laden processes of social construction play in the hands of obscurantist anti-scientific positions. Arguing at the same time against reductionist notions of objectivity, Latour proposes a new form of critical realism. While Latour plausibly advocates the necessity of widening our epistemological paradigm, we aim to show that his critique of poststructuralism is unjust and hyperbolic. Moreover, his own conception misses out on explicating the relationship between epistemology, power, and subjectivity. Therefore, we argue that a Foucauldian form of critique, as it allows to account for this relationship, is all but outdated. Rather, it remains a necessary critical device in the context of the present truth-crisis.

Das Schwerpunktthema versammelt sieben Beiträge zur nachklassischen Phänomenologie in rezenten Diskursen der ethischen und politischen Theoriebildung, um das produktive und spannungsreiche Verhältnis von Ethik und Alterität in Hinblick auf Problembereiche der praktischen Philosophie auszuloten. Traditionell stellen sowohl Fragen des Ethischen als auch Fragen der Andersheit "Grenzprobleme" der Phänomenologie dar. Der Schwerpunkt versucht demgegenüber zu verdeutlichen, dass gerade diese Themenfelder einerseits innerhalb der Phänomenologie zu grundlegenden und weitreichenden Transformationen Anlass gegeben haben und andererseits zu der anhaltenden Relevanz phänomenologischer Forschung für ethische und politische Problemlagen einen wesentlichen Beitrag leisten. Im Rahmen dieser Einleitung wird knapp das spezifische Interesse an der Verschränkung von Ethik und Alterität in aktuellen Forschungszusammenhängen skizziert; darüber hinaus stellen wir die sieben Texte des Schwerpunktes in synoptischer Form vor. ; This core issue is a collection of seven articles about the post-classical Phenomenology in recent discourses of ethical and political theory construction. The aim is to make the most out of the productive and interesting relation of Ethics and Alterity with regard to the problem areas of practical philosophy. Traditionally, questions about Ethics as well as questions about Alterity posed "borderline" problems for Phenomenology. In contrast, this core issue tries to make clear that on the one hand, especially those topic areas have led to fundamental and extensive transformations within Phenomenology, and on the other hand make an essential contribution to the ongoing relevance of phenomenological investigation for ethical and political problems. This introduction outlines the specific interest for the connection of Ethics and Alterity in current research contexts. Moreover, the seven articles of this core issue are presented in synoptic form.
