The article reveals the influence of Russian information propaganda on cultural industries of Ukraine, in particular film making, and describes place and role of contemporary Ukrainian cinematography as a "soft power" in counteracting humanitarian expansion of the Russian Federation, as a factor having an influence on mass consciousness and social attitudes of Ukrainians, as means of counter-propaganda and construction of all-Ukrainian identity and formation of consolidated political nation as a whole. The author has studied the state of national cinematography during 2014–2021, analyzed the reasons which hindered its development and described public and state legislative initiatives directed at support and development of cinematography. The most popular Ukrainian historical and patriotic fiction and documentary films are examined and their role in counteracting Russia's propaganda is defined. The article contains analysis of anti-Ukrainian films produced in the Russian Federation, annexed Crimea, and quasi-states "Donetsk People's Republic" and "Luhansk People's Republic"; reveals essential features of its information and psychological impact; defines manipulative techniques and methods. On the basis of analysis of Russian propaganda films, the author made a conclusion about portraying a negative image of Ukraine and broad usage of messages about the "unconstitutional coups d'etat", "Kyiv regime" that fights against population of Donbas. We may see such negative narratives as: Ukrainians are "junta", "fascists", "Banderites", "hardcore nationalists", who fight against "common people" and "miners". Russian propaganda concerning Crimea includes, first of all, creation of illusory picture which justifies Russia's annexation of Crimea before the world, with meaning that this process was "inevitable" and "historically justified".Ukrainian cinematography is considered as efficient means of opposing Russian information aggression, formation of patriotic feelings of Ukrainian people, and their aspiration for historical truth and justice. State system policy on counteracting propaganda has caused a powerful development of national cinematography, which pays considerable attention to making and promoting historical and patriotic fiction and documentary films.

The article considers the use of handicraft sheepskin and leather clothes in the wedding ceremonies of the Middle Dnieper Ukrainians in the late 19th – early 20th century. It is established that they have performed important ritual and protective functions. In particular, the ritual function means that clothes served as ritual attributes. In gifting ceremonies, the sheepskin and leather clothes had both practical and special semantic meanings (for example, by giving boots to the bride's mother, the groom showed his respect and appreciation). The protective function is connected with ancient beliefs about the power of ritual attributes and magic acts. In particular, the leather in the culture of East Slavic people is associated with birth and renewal, while the sheepskin was the symbol of wealth and fertility. In wedding ceremonies, the sheepskin was associated with a cloud, while the wheat grains were thrown over the bridal couple as a symbol of rain and fertility. We may define pre-wedding, wedding, and post-wedding rituals with sheepskin and leather clothes. The most widespread pre-wedding ritual was gifting leather boots to the fiancée and sewing a flower into the fiancé's sheepskin hat on the engagement day. A sheepskin coat turned inside out played an essential role in the Ukrainian traditional wedding. The highest level of concentration of various magical symbols is retraced in the ceremony of send-off and reception of a newly married couple. In post-wedding rituals, the sheepskin coat was used for costume games to introduce such characters as a bride and a groom, animals, gypsies, etc.

The article deals with the phenomenon of Soviet identity in the modern Ukrainian society. On the basis of the survey, conducted among the representatives of different regions of Ukraine, the author identified respondents with Soviet identity, analyzed their social sentiments and their impact on the formation or breaking of the all-Ukrainian identity. Also, the factors shaping the positive image of the Soviet past were defined. The paper discovered that nostalgia for the Soviet past and devotion to the Soviet cultural and historical narratives are caused by such factors as social security and wealth, confidence in the future; paternalism; deep-rooted ideological clichés and the Soviet value system; remnants of the Soviet cultural heritage in the Ukrainian sociocultural space; family background of the Soviet memory; lack of critical re-evaluation of the Soviet past, etc. The author considers that "hybrid post-memory" is one of the factors that hold back Ukraine's escaping from the Soviet historical and cultural space. This is when the people's "memory" about political repressions and dekulakization is getting weak if their forefathers had not suffered from those tragedies. The survey demonstrates the low level of public activity among the respondents, caused by the autocratic and paternalistic model of the Soviet society, which means the need to be ruled and, as a result, disclaims personal and public responsibility and delegates it to others who can bring discipline into all spheres of life. The process of obtaining a new identity by Ukrainians is slow and sometimes contradictory, especially in the southeastern regions of Ukraine, where the majority of the population come under the strong impact of Russian and Soviet cultural and historical narratives. In particular, the survey results show that extreme anti-Ukrainian sentiments are revealed by the respondents with a strong Soviet identity.

; The article is devoted to the transformation of the tanning handicraft industry in the conditions of establishment and further development of the Soviet statehood in the early and mid-twentieth century. The author examines relations between manufacturers, customers and controlling authorities, and also focuses on a new image of a craftsman – not a manufacturer of goods and a good master but a social "enemy" due to class and wealth disparities. A number of legislative documents regulating handicraft tanning industry in 1919–the 1950s are described, and such new forms of labor organization as co-operative craft societies and workshops, labor communities are considered. The author reveals that poor craftsmen used to be the most active in cooperation, while wealthy masters opposed to this process. The masters' long-established strive to exercise their personality was pushed out by such new values as collective labor, collective property, etc.It is established that high taxation and almost complete monopolization of rawstock by the state, as well as total control over the tanning handicraft industry, led to illegal manufacturing. Soviet authorities used different ways to disclose and punish "shadow" craftsmen: persecution, stigmatizing as "kurkul" and "speculator", deprivation of civil rights, detention under arrest, confiscation of property, equipment, raw materials, etc. However, the insufficient produce of the state tanning and leather industry raised demands for the handicraft goods. For this reason, the illegal tanning handicraft industry had existed in some regions of the researched territory till the 1960s. The author emphasizes that illegal handicraft industry appeared to be for craftsmen and their families not only the way to survive but also a particular form of opposition to the state policy aimed to remove private manufacturers from the state economic sector.

The article examines the problem of Hlevakha community's local identity formation on the basis of field research and personal author's observations. Local identity is the primary level of territorial identity and the result of identifying individual with the local community, the sense of involvement in the events which take place in the territory of inhabitance. It is formed under the influence of collective and individual experiences and cooperation within the local community. Local identity is examined through the comprehensive analysis of its components. According to traditional social and physiological approaches, we may define emotional, cognitive, and behavioral components of local identity. The emotional component includes a set of emotions, moods, and feelings related to the individual's belonging to his/her regional community. The cognitive component involves the individual's awareness concerning his/her community, its way of life, traditions, history, socioeconomic and political conditions, etc. The behavioral component is defined as certain readiness for actions on the basis of individual social needs and a certain way of life. The research of emotional component of local identity shows a high level of emotional connection of Hlevakha inhabitants to the township and their closeness with other members of the community. Analysis of the cognitive component reveals that the members of the community lead both rural and urban way of life; the respondents mentioned a large amount of positive changes in social infrastructure and also spoke about necessity of its further development and improvement. To describe the behavioral component of local identity, we conducted the analysis of social media and online resources, in particular local websites and online communities in Facebook and Viber. The results of the survey show that the respondents are interested in the life of their local community primarily as observers and are poorly involved in the social, political, and cultural life of the township. The author considers that the citizens' initiative and cooperation with local authorities can become an important driver of changes in the social infrastructure of Hlevakha.
