BACKGROUND: Given the wide range of depressive disorders, suicidal ideation and suicide attempts in various military studies around the world, determining the exact prevalence of these disorders in line with health planning as well as care and treatment service designing for military forces can be useful. The aim of the present meta-analysis was to determine the pooled prevalence of depressive disorders, suicide thoughts, and attempts in the military. METHODS: The present systematic review and meta-analysis study was performed based on PRISMA criteria in 5 steps of the search strategy, screening and selection of articles, data extraction, evaluation of article quality and meta-analysis. International databases (PubMed (Medline), Scopus, Web of science, Embase (Elsevier), PsycInfo (Ovid), Cochrane CENTRAL (Ovid)) were searched using related keywords extracted from Mesh and Emtree. After screening and final selection of articles, data were extracted and qualitative evaluation was performed using the NOS checklist. RESULTS: The results of meta-analysis showed that the prevalence of depression in active military forces and veterans was 23% ( CI: 20–26%) and 20% ( CI: 18–22%), respectively. In addition, the prevalence of suicidal ideation and attempts in the military was 11% ( CI: 10–13%) and 11% ( CI: 9–13%), respectively. The prevalence of suicide ideation and attempts in drug-using military was 18% ( CI: 7–33%) and 30% ( CI: 23–36%), respectively. The prevalence of suicidal ideation and attempts in military consuming alcohol were 9% ( CI: 4–13%) and 8% ( CI: 7–10%), respectively. In militaries with AIDS / HIV, the prevalence of suicide attempts was 5% ( CI: 4–8%). CONCLUSION: Therefore, it is necessary to develop and design training and intervention programs in order to increase the awareness of the military, especially veterans, to prevent the occurrence of suicide and depression. BACKGROUND: Epidemiological studies indicate increased prevalence of cardiovascular disease (CVD) among military personnel. Accordingly, identification of at-risk individuals and lifestyle modification such as improving diet quality can potentially inhibits the increasing trend of CVD mortality. The aim of this study was predicting the 10-year risk of CVD and its association with healthy diet indicator (HDI) among military personnel. METHODS: In this cross-sectional study, 400 male military personnel within the age range of 30–75 years were included. HDI score was calculated based on food frequency questionnaire, and the 10-year risk of CVD was evaluated using Framingham risk score (FRS). The FRS items include age, gender, total cholesterol, high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), systolic blood pressure, status of diabetes and smoking. Partial correlation test was employed to investigate the relationship between Framingham risk score and HDI score. RESULTS: The mean age and body mass index (BMI) of participants were 38.67 ± 5.3 year and 25.28 ± 3.22 kg/m(2), respectively. Prediction of FRS was as follows: 96.5% were low risk, 2% were moderate risk, and 1.5% were high risk. The mean HDI score of participants in this study was 5.98 ± 1.36. While HDI score did not show a significant correlation with FRS (r: − 0.009, p:0.860), increased dietary sodium intake had a significant positive correlation with FRS (r: 0.114, p:0.026). CONCLUSION: The most of participants (96.5%) had in low risk of CVD development in the next 10 years. Meanwhile, the FRS showed no significant relationship with HDI score. Further researches are required to confirm the results of the present study.

The article presents the data on the exploratory analysis of factors involved in employees' effectiveness for responding to crisis in Iran׳s military hospitals. This research was a descriptive exploratory study. The statistical population included the 561 medical and nonmedical staff of three military hospitals. Two researcher-made questionnaires were used to collect data, and reliability and validity of the questionnaires were confirmed. The exploratory factor analysis (EFA) method was used to classify, clarify, and explain study factors and the infrastructural structure. At the end, 473 questionnaires were found appropriate for the final analysis. Based on results of the exploratory factor analysis (EFA), 8 criteria were identified as the main factors involved in employees' effectiveness for responding to crisis. According to Friedman test results, organizational factors were the most important factors influencing employees' effectiveness with a mean score of 3.76 of 5. Responding to crisis was the most important variable factor involved response to crisis with a mean score of 3.74 of 5.

Healthcare wastes are a major challenge in public health and comprise all types of wastes generated by healthcare centers, research facilities, and laboratories. The aim of this study was surveying the knowledge and practice of nursing staff about sharp waste management in selected military (Tehran) and non- military (Qom) hospitals in 2012. This was a descriptive-analytical study on 143 nursing stuff in Military and Non-Military hospitals. Data was collected using a self-report questionnaire. Statistical tests such as the student t-test, one-way analysis of variance and Pearson correlation were used to data analysis. The mean age of participants was 32(±6.3) and the majority were female. The mean score of knowledge was 54.7(±14.4) and their knowledge classified on a moderate level. Also, the mean score of practice was 65.44(±11.6) and was classified on a moderate level. The most frequent way of transmission of various diseases such as HBV, HIV and HCV is exposure to sharp tools. The purpose of the study was to determine the epidemiological aspects of occupational exposure and risk factors of injuries from sharp tools among nurses in a military hospital. In this cross - sectional study 100 nursing staff in a military hospital was chosen as sample. Personal and professional information collected by a valid and reliable questionnaire, and data were analyzed using SPSS 17 software.The prevalence of occupational exposure to sharp tools of hospital waste was 41 %. Mean age and mean of experience years in nurses were 34.7 ± 5.88 and 10.99 ± 5.52 year respectively. About 63% of nurses in disaster reported the matter to the Committee on Hospital Infection Control.Most affected by the syringe needle was 46.3%. Working load and needle recapping were the main causes of the damage due to exposure to the sharp objects, 26.8 and % 31.7 respectively. The relationship between occupational exposure to hospital sharp tools and age, experience, education and place of work was significant with P= 0.006, 0.017, 0.027 and 0.008 respectively. According to the complications of sharp tools, reduction of sharp components requires regular training courses for staff, proportion of the number of work shifts, strict implementation of treatment protocols, modification of the current inaccuracy procedures, access to adequate equipment's and safe and an effective mechanism for reporting of occupational accidents in all of the sectors.

Objective. Cancers are one of the most important public health problems in Iran. Because of the importance of cancers, the purpose of the current study was to the prediction of the future incidence of the most common cancers among Iranian military community (MC) by using the time series analysis during 2007 to 2019.Methods. In the current cross-sectional study, all registered cancers among Iranian MC entered the study. To select the best model of prediction, various methods including autocorrelation function (ACF), partial autocorrelation function (PACF), and Akaike information criterion (AIC) statistics were used. All analysis was performed by using ITSM, stata14, and Excel2010 software.Results. The most prevalent cancers among Iranian MC were breast, prostate, and colon cancers respectively. The time series analysis was shown that the trend of all mentioned cancers in Iranian MC will increase in the coming years.Conclusion. the trend of most prevalent cancers among Iranian MC was increasing but the different factors like the growth of population size and improving the registration system

Purpose: Cancers are one of the main causes of mortality in the world. The incidence of cancers in the world and mainly in developing countries is increasing. Due to the importance of this issue, the purpose of the current study was to assess the trend of incidence and death of Bladder Cancer among Iranian Military Community (MC) from 2007 to 2019. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study using time series data. All registered bladder cancer in Iranian Military community from March 2007 to February 2017 entered in this study. The future trend predicted using ARIMA (p,d,q) model. All analyzes were performed using ITSM and Excel (2010) software. Results: According to ARIMA (2, 2, 1) model, the bladder cancer among the Iranian military community had an increasing trend. The AR (12, 2, 0) model showed an increasing trend of this cancer among males but it seems the trend of bladder cancer among females will have a constant trend AR (12, 2, 1). The death due to bladder cancer was showed a decreasing trend using AR (14, 2, 1) model. Conclusion: In spite of decreasing trend in death due to bladder cancer, the trend of incidence of the Bladder cancer among the Iranian Military Community was increasing. However, it is necessary to adjust the effect of many factors that may have an important role in this trend.

"Introduction: diabetes mellitus (DM) is one of the most prevalent non-communicable diseases. Spatio-temporal study of DM has a main in the design of disease prevention programs. The present study aimed to describe the spatio-temporal distribution of diabetic patients in the Iranian military community. Methods: In this ecological study, all registered cases of DM in the Iranian military community (military officers and enrolled conscripts) were considered during the period 2015-2019. Getis-Ord Gi statistics was applied to identify the DM hotspots. Spearman Correlation Coefficient was used to perform trend analysis of the disease. Results: The number of DM incident cases in the military officers and enrolled conscripts was 1135 and 85, respectively. Isfahan (n=153) and Tehran (n=67) for the military officers and Zanjan (n=17) and Kurdistan (n=10) for the enrolled conscripts were the provinces with the highest number of identified DM cases. In the study period, no significant hotspots were detected in the military officers; However, an increasing trend of DM was observed (CC= 0.935, p 0.001). The DM hotspots detected in enrolled conscripts were as follows: 2015 – Qom (95% CI); 2016 – Lorestan, Qazvin, and Guilan (90% CI); 2017 – Ilam, Hamadan, and Markazi (90% CI); and 2018 – Ilam (95% CI), Alborz, Qom, Markazi, Lorestan, Kermanshah (90% CI), and no significant trend was noticed nonetheless (CC=-0.160, p=0.555). Conclusion: It appeared that Northern and North-Western Iran were high-risk areas for DM in the military population and should be considered in designing the diabetes prevention and control program. Moreover, the determination of DM risk factors in the aforementioned areas could play a crucial role in the prevention of the disease. "
