The territorial model of regional Spain. Recap and perspectives ; El modelo territorial de la España autonómica. Recapitulación y perspectivas
The population's irregular distribution in the Spanish regions continues increasing. The population has continued concentrating on the coastal regions and the Balearic islands and Canarys, besides Madrid, urban region, with a strong dynamism. In front of it the great space interior maintains its low densities. The group of the Spanish economy has grown with force. He has not made it same in all the regions, but rather it has allowed a slight tendency toward the regional convergence, in spite of the strongs regional differences. But, they are still numerous the regions that have a half level of inferior wealth to the average of the European Union. The autonomous decentralization has been quick and deep. It has been reached a situation similar to that of the Federal States. Face to the future a dual dynamics is observed: in front of that centrifugal political ideology, every time the economy is sustained in a more integrated market, with better accessibility territorial and bigger cohesion. Aging and Demographic Weakness in the European Union: The Spanish Model
In: Population review: demography of developing countries, Band 53, Heft 2
ISSN: 1549-0955
The population in the European Union has remained stagnant for many years. The continued decline in birth rate and increasing life expectancy are leading to an aging population. In Spain, this aging process has been accelerated. The Spanish case requires a complex multidisciplinary analysis to achieve a proper understanding of this population phenomenon that has serious consequences for Spain. This paper analyzes the causes of the aging population and its future consequences. Multiple data sources, mostly from the National Institute of Statistics and Ministry of Labour and Social Security, are used to support the analyses. For several years, many immigrants have arrived in Spain, resulting in a significant increase in population and a decrease in the rates of aging. A positive and intense migratory balance has stopped, and shows signs of change. Numerous elements indicate that the Spanish economy does not suffer a transient crisis situation; there is a depletion of the production model, hindering a quick exit from the situation of economic and financial crisis. In this context, it is not easy to get a new and favorable migratory balance. A significant Spanish demographic weakness is confirmed; the population structure has not changed despite the recent intense immigration process. The threat of the demographic regression is announced in a near temporal horizon.
The property sector in Spain. Evolutionary analysis, current problems and difficulties for its development ; El sector inmobiliario en España.
In this paper we first analyse the housing stock in Spain (new and pre-owned). We outline the political model of housing in Spain, highlighting the differences in its main stages and inquiring into the causes that have contributed to the current housing surplus. We then analyse the different aspects that explain why the housing market seems lethargic and likely to become problematic (population evolution and number of households, perception about purchasing residential properties as a business, etc.). We delve into information concerning the historical evolution of the Spanish housing stock and changing patterns of housing use via data provided by the statistical services of the Spanish Ministry of Development and the National Statistics Institute (INE). The current complex reality of the housing market in Spain is not coincidental, it is rather the result of a long period (more than half a century) of policies supporting increased housing construction. Spain's dwindling and progressively aging population will jeopardise the net creation of households and housing demand. Given the global situation of the housing market in Spain, it can be said that there is an the end of a prolonged cycle of housing construction favoured by particular housing policies.

This article analyzes the evolution of production at Cartagena oil refinery, the first to be installed in the Iberian Peninsula. This refinery was inaugurated in 1950, and since then has been a reference in the national production of petroleum distillates. This paper details the political decisions that led to its implementation and development for decades. We also analyze the reasons and consequences of its recent modernization and enlargement. An investment of more than 3,000 million euros has been made due to: its strategic location next to one of the best ports of the Mediterranean for the transfer of oil and its derivatives; its connection with the interior refinery of Puertollano through a double pipeline; the availability of abundant soil, near and of own ownership, for the new facilities; and the need to obtain gas oils and kerosene, products of which Spain was deficient.
