The evolution of U.S. strategy toward the Indian Ocean and Persian Gulf regions
This paper will attempt to trace the changes in U.S. perception in the region of the Indian Ocean and Persian Gulf from World War II to the present; American attitudes have altered drastically as a result to three developments: the withdrawal of the British military presence; the increased U.S. demand for the oil resources of the Persian Gulf; and the evolving Soviet political and military role in the region.
