The article analyses linguistic constituency of the godonym space of three cities in the Volgograd region – Volgograd, Kamyshin and Petrov Val. The godonym space is a set of geographic names officially assigned to linear topo objects located within settlements. Having taken into account the definitions of the term "linguistic code" in linguistics, the authors offer their interpretation of the phenomenon under study. The research revealed the most important features of the linguistic code: consistency, structural unity, relevant-to-users information, as well as conventionality and symbolism, which convey positive assessments. The linguistic codes that understate intracity linear topo objects nominations are distinguished and specified as memorial, locative, topographic, anthropogenic, symbolic, naturalistic, relatively-abstract, orderly types. Both the general features of motivations in the code actualization for naming linear topographic objects, and the specific set of odonyms that nominates locations in the godonym space of every of the three cities have been established. It was noted that, being the largest, Volgograd godonym space demonstrates variety of linguistic codes, whereas Kamyshin and Petrov Val codes are specified by memorial, local, topographis, anthropogenic and symbolic types. The article offers for observation the historically defined set of geographical names of linear topographic objects in the three cities of the Volgograd region, which reflects multiple ethnic contacts of it, and renaming of road names due to the local authorities "interference" in the godonym space.

The article analyzes the year-name space of the city of Volgograd (godonyms), interpreted as a set of names of linear geographic objects officially recorded on the territory of a settlement. The linguistic codes most in demand in the regional toponymic policy have been identified and characterized, the most important features of these codes are consistency, structure, repletion with relevant to users information, and in some cases conventionality, symbolism consigning positive semantics. It is argued that the extremely frequent codes for nominating the intracity linear topo objects of Volgograd are memorial, local, anthropogenic and conditionally symbolic ones. It has been established that memoratives can be subdivided into personal, group, and associated with some significant events. Personal memoratives are distributed over the three strata: godonyms commemorating world-famous people, godonyms naming places after iconic personalities in the national community, godonyms based on the names of people recognized in the region. Godonyms, designed to preserve the memory of military exploits committed during the defense of the city in different historical epochs, prevail among group and event memoratives. The most urgent tasks in the field of municipal toponymic policy are outlined as being associated with increase in degrees of name uniqueness within the city, reduction of onyms that contain numerals and abbreviations, and raising requirement to linguistic consistency and accurate spelling of godonyms.

The article explores the features of feminine speech patterns in Friedrich Gorenstein's play «Berdichev». Gorenstein was one of the few writers of the late 20 th century who was interested in the Jewish culture and its language. His play «Berdichev» excels in uniting Russian and Yiddish languages. The drama is built on the author's experience and is full of photography-like details. However, under the autobiographical layer, one can find Gorenstein's dialogue with the writers who were important to him. This constant referencing was his literary strategy. What is more, it was essential for Gorenstein to emphasize his Jewish identity. He was able to do it because of Sholem Aleichem. A classic became Gorenstein's source of knowledge about Jewish life, its language, and habitats. That is why «Berdichev» has a lot of parallels with Sholem Aleichem's novels. Gorenstein's linguistic construction of monologues, type of characters, and even structure of the play are similar to Sholem Aleichem.

In the study linguistic-and-ecological approach is used for describing the reference book of regional toponyms The Names of Settlements in the Volgograd Region as a lexicographic issue. Dictionary entry zones are described and the most complex issues of their compilation are indicated. The authors have characterized the entry zone The Degree of Name Uniqueness within the Region, represented in the onomastic dictionaries for the first time. The four successive stages in oikonym uniqueness gradation have been identified, that enables making adjustments to the directories and reference books while nominating settlements. The zone of the dictionary entry Syntactic Characteristic of the Head Unit in Combination with the Appellative, the introduction of which is stipulated by the variability of such combinations in speech practice, contains information about case parallelism between the oikonym and the appellative, or its absence. The zone of the dictionary entry Ottoponymic Derivatives of the Vocabulary Unit reveals the possibility of forming relative adjectives and nouns naming the inhabitants of a particular locality. Dictionary entries in the reference book are drawn up taking into account the linguistic-and-ecological criteria developed by the authors for the toponymic names.
