O planeamento turístico tem vindo a constituir-se como uma das principais ferramentas para colmatar os problemas gerados pelo turismo e otimizar os seus benefícios para todas as partes envolvidas, numa visão cada vez mais sustentável e colaborativa. Em Portugal, o poder local tem vindo a ganhar responsabilidades neste âmbito. Pombal, município do litoral do Centro de Portugal, tem potencialidades turísticas, mas carece de uma intervenção estratégica estruturada. Neste estudo, algumas bases para o desenvolvimento turístico de Pombal são apontadas através da implementação da Técnica Delphi. O artigo destaca a técnica enquanto ferramenta adequada para a implementação de processos colaborativos em contextos locais e regionais, visto que permite a um grupo heterogéneo de intervenientes cruzar perspetivas e criar soluções em conjunto num ambiente neutro e equitativo.
A osteologia craniana de Nothura maculosa é descrita e comparada com representantes de outros sete gêneros de tinamídeos (Tinamidae). Foram utilizados crânios preparados em via seca e úmida, bem como exemplares diafanizados, para a descrição e para as comparações. O uso de aves jovens, que ainda apresentam as suturas cranianas visíveis, mostrou-se útil para determinar a contribuição de cada osso na formação da estrutura. Os resultados obtidos permitem reconhecer alguns caracteres comuns a todos os gêneros estudados, como a presença de uma única superfície articular para a porção dorsal do processo ótico do quadrado, a fusão incompleta da porção caudal do vômer e a presença de apenas uma superfície articular entre o quadrado e a caixa craniana. Foi possível reconhecer, também, dois grupos dentro da família: um formado pelos representantes dos gêneros Tinamus e Crypturellus, que pode ser caracterizado pela presença de ossículos supra-orbitais, por uma reduzida fossa coanal e pela presença de um desenvolvido tubérculo pseudotemporal, entre outros caracteres. O outro grupo, composto por representantes dos gêneros Nothura, Rhynchotus, Nothoprocta, Taoniscus, Eudromia e Tinamotis, pode ser distinguido por possuir, entre outros caracteres, um discreto processo pós-orbital, uma ampla fossa coanal e um tubérculo pseudotemporal discreto, além de não possuir ossículo supra-orbital.
Brazil stands out for its coffee plantations for which the 2015 harvest yielded a revenue of over 600 million dollars. Its production is closely related to biotic and abiotic factors, and insect pests are noted for reducing this production. However, those insects are highly influenced by biological control agents such as predator wasps. This study aimed to survey the wasps visiting intercropping coffee cultivation with different tree species. Four plots of coffee intercropped with different tree species and coffee in full sun (control) were sampled for comparison. Tree species were: Teak (Tectona grandis L.f), Australian redcedar (Toona ciliata M. Roem.), Mangium (Acacia mangium Willd.) and Avocado (Persea americana Mill.). Six hundred and thirty-nine individuals of social wasps were collected, with 20 species and 7 genera, and an overall diversity index of 1.14. The plot with Avocado had the highest Shannon diversity index (H ') 1.23 and the lowest dominance according to the Index Berger-Paker (DPB) 0.54.

Lançado em 1992, o Programa de Cátedras da UNITWIN/UNESCO promove a cooperação e interligação entre universidades, a nível internacional, para reforçar as capacidades institucionais através da partilha de conhecimento e do trabalho colaborativo. O Programa apoia o estabelecimento de Cátedras UNESCO e Redes UNITWIN em áreas chave prioritárias relacionadas com os domínios de competência da UNESCO – educação, ciências naturais e sociais e comunicação. ; A segunda metade do século XX iniciou um tempo de mudança, para a sociedade em geral e para cada um em particular.Embora o desenvolvimento não seja global, não deixa de ser verdade que conceitos como sustentabilidade e desenvolvimento sustentável, património e cultura, turismo e ética, singularidade e autenticidade, materialidade e imaterialidade, entre outros, entraram no léxico da investigação científica, do discurso político, em planos estratégicos de desenvolvimento e de organizações não-governamentais. A assunção que o Ser Humano é o património mais relevante tem ajudado a construir um caminho onde o respeito pelo outro, a valorização do que nos diferencia, pode constituir uma plataforma de encontros onde os lugares e cada lugar têm um papel decisivo. É neste contexto que a cultura/património como elemento diferenciador, assume um significado progressivo e continuadamente relevante. Os territórios, enquanto lugares de construção humana, adquirem pela sua identidade/autenticidade, um papel central na sociedade global. São muitos e diversos os responsáveis por esta construção. Quer no ponto de vista individual quer no coletivo. A criação da UNESCO (Organização das Nações Unidas para a Educação, a Ciência e a Cultura) em novembro de 1945 vem ao encontro deste caminho. A preocupação em salvaguardar o percurso, ainda visível da história da Humanidade, qualquer seja a sua dimensão e localização geográfica, é exemplo de uma preocupação global onde todos devemos estar envolvidos. Muitos destes sítios classificados Património Mundial da UNESCO são também, por isto mesmo, lugares turísticos. E assim, sujeitos a diferentes usos, quase sempre distantes da sua função inicial. Uso que os não deve destruir, descaraterizar, massificar. Antes, sim, preservar ou restabelecer a autenticidade que os identifica. Que os torna únicos. É neste contexto, aparentemente contraditório, que se centraliza a reflexão que se pretende desenvolver neste encontro internacional Identidade Local e Gestão Turística dos Sítios Património Mundial - Tendências e Desafios, no âmbito da rede Cultura, Turismo e Desenvolvimento. Sendo contemporâneos de um tempo em que os turismos não param de aumentar, de se diversificar e de se assumir como valor social de referência, enquanto atividade económica de pendor sistémico, assistimos ao incremento do turismo cultural e patrimonial como expressão da capacidade que as sociedades apresentam de transformar os seus legados em produtos de consumo e instrumentos de desenvolvimento local e regional. Nesta perspetiva impõe-se a necessidade de compreender as motivações do turista e analisar os perfis dos visitantes, cada vez mais associados a situações de multiatração e a uma procura plurimotivacionada, sempre orientada no sentido de uma maior exigência, de uma real compreensão do que se visita, da busca da experiência e da emoção, da participação comprometida mediada pela ética e pelos comportamentos sustentáveis; um novo turismo que cresce em cada um de nós, na procura do ser em cada viagem, em cada lugar. O interesse e o desejo, crescentes, pelos lugares onde o património histórico e cultural, material e imaterial, permite (re)encontrar a singularidade, a autenticidade, a notoriedade e, simultaneamente, a originalidade dos Sítios de Património Mundial, obrigam a que a sua gestão turística seja feita de forma a que a sustentabilidade física, social, cultural e económica constitua uma preocupação permanente e dinâmica, de abordagem sistémica, aberta e complexa. ; The second half of the twentieth century began a time of change for society in general and each individual in particular. Although the concept of development is not globally understood as the same phenomenon, concepts such as sustainability and sustainable development, heritage and culture, tourism and ethics, uniqueness and authenticity, materiality and intangibility, among others, have entered the lexicon of scientific research, political speeches, strategic and development plans, and non-governmental organizations. The assumption that the human being is the most relevant heritage is decisive for respecting the other and valuing the differences between us. This approach might help creating a common sphere where everyone and every place plays a crucial role. It is in this context that culture/heritage, as a differentiating element, undertakes a progressive and continuously relevant meaning, a core part in global society. Are many and diverse responsible for this construction. Whether the individual point of view or the collective. The creation of UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) in November 1945 is a fundamental stepping-stone in this context. The concern to protect the still visible course of the history of Humankind, independent from the dimension or geographical location is the example of a global concern which should involve all of us. Many of these sites listed in UNESCO's World Heritage List, are also, for this same reason, touristic sites, and thus subject to different uses, almost always different from their initial purpose. These uses should not imply destruction, loss of genuineness, or massification. They should instead preserve or re-establish the authenticity that identifies these sites, making them unique. This apparently contradictory context lays the focus of the reflection that is aimed to be developed in this international meeting: "Local Identity and Tourism Management on World Heritage Sites: Trends and Challenges", in the framework of the International UNESCO-UNITWIN Network Culture, Tourism and Development. Simultaneously, tourism is rapidly expanding. It is increasingly diverse and considered as an important social value. Its economic value is also increasing as its weight grows in national GDP. We also witness the development of cultural and heritage tourism as an expression of the ability of societies to turn their legacy into consumer products and instruments of local and regional development. In this perspective there is the need to understand the motivations of the tourist and the profiles of the visitors, connected with multi-attraction and multi-motivation demand. It is important to encompass an understanding of what is being visited, the quest for experience and emotion, the committed participation mediated by ethics and sustainable behaviours; to create the conditions for a new, ontological tourism to grow inside each one of us, in every journey, in each place. Surpassing the national perspective usually adopted, the authors confirmed the existence of a pattern of population distribution common to the whole Iberian Peninsula in the long run. This pattern is clearly associated with geographical factors. These variables seem to have more weight in explaining changes between 1877/78 and 1940 than in the period from 1940 to 2001. The observation of the cross-border region has shown that proximity to the frontier has not generated any distinct pattern of population density on either side of the boundary line. The spatial coherence of the observed phenomena throughout the Peninsula and of its evolution, independent of the border between states, reinforces the importance of geographic factors in their explanation. At the same time, this verification opens up new issues related to the effect of national political and economic policies.
Kale (Brassica oleraceae var. acephala) is of great importance in human nutrition and local agricultural economies, but its growth is impaired by the attack of several insect pests. Social wasps prey on these pests, but few studies report the importance of this predation or the potential use of wasps as biological control for agricultural pests. This study aimed to survey the species of social wasps that forage in kale (B. oleraceae var. acephala), recording the influence of temperature and time of day on the foraging behavior of these wasps. The research was conducted at the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Minas Gerais - Bambuí Campus, from July to December 2015, when twelve collections of social wasps that foraged on a common area of kale cultivation were made, noting the temperature and time of collection for each wasp. Polybia ignobilis, Protonectarina sylveirae and Protopolybia sedula were the most common wasp species foraging in fields of kale. Interspecific interactions between wasp species did not affect their coexistence within kale fields, with peak foraging occurring between 1000 and 1100 hours. Social wasps are important predators of herbivorous insects in the agricultural environment and the coexistence of a great diversity of these predators can help control pest insects that occur in the crop. Moreover, knowing factors that influence foraging behaviors of common wasp species that occur in this crop is important for effective use of these insects in the biological control of pests.
Esta experiência foi realizada em uma unidade produtiva no assentamento Santos Dias vinculado ao Movimento dos Sem Terra (MST), localizado no município de Guapé- MG. Teve como objetivo relatar a experiência de controle biológico conservativo de pragas agrícolas a partir da perspectiva de extensão rural agroecológica em um assentamento do movimento dos trabalhadores sem terra. Foram realizadas visitas a propriedade desenvolvendo atividades de orientação técnica, diálogo, observação e construção do saber. Esta experiência possibilitou a construção de conhecimentos por meio da interação entre universidade e sociedade.
BACKGROUND: Spatial inequalities in human development are of great concern to international organisations and national governments. Demographic indicators like the infant mortality rate are important measures for determining these inequalities. Using demographic indicators over long time periods at relatively high levels of geographical detail, we can examine the long-term continuities and changes in spatial inequalities. OBJECTIVE: This paper presents the initial outcomes of a larger project that aims to analyse spatial variation in infant survival across Europe over the last 100 years. In this paper, we focus on spatial disparities in infant survival in 1910. At that time, the longevity revolution was still at an early stage. We look at general spatial variation patterns within and across countries, and discuss some of the challenges related to the comparativeness of the data. METHODS: We link official infant mortality data from more than 5,000 European regions and localities for the period around 1910 to a European historical GIS of administrative boundaries. The data are analysed using descriptive spatial analysis techniques. RESULTS: In 1910, a number of countries in northern and western Europe led the longevity revolution in Europe, with the area of low infant mortality also extending into the northwestern parts of the German Empire. Other areas with low infant mortality levels included the Belgian region of Wallonia, most parts of Switzerland, as well as central and south-western France. In eastern and southern Europe, we find significant variation within and across countries, which might stem in part from data quality problems.
Inventários de fauna acessam diretamente a diversidade de uma localidade, em um determinado espaço e tempo. Os dados primários gerados pelos inventários compõem uma das ferramentas mais importantes na tomada de decisões a respeito do manejo de áreas naturais. Entretanto, vários problemas têm sido observados em diversos níveis relacionados aos inventários de fauna no Brasil e vão desde a formação de recursos humanos até a ausência de padronização, de desenho experimental e de seleção de métodos inadequados. São apresentados estudos de caso com mamíferos, répteis, anfíbios e peixes, nos quais são discutidos problemas como variabilidade temporal e métodos para detecção de fauna terrestre, sugerindo que tanto os inventários quanto os programas de monitoramento devam se estender por prazos maiores e que os inventários devem incluir diferentes metodologias para que os seus objetivos sejam plenamente alcançados. ; Inventories of fauna directly access the diversity of a locality in a certain period of time. The primary data generated by these inventories comprise one of the most important steps in decisions making regarding the management of natural areas. However, several problems have been observed at different levels related to inventories of fauna in Brazil, and range from the training of humans to the lack of standardization of experimental design and selection of inappropriate methods. We present case studies of mammals, reptiles, amphibians and fishes, where they discussed issues such temporal variability and methods for detection of terrestrial fauna, suggesting that both inventories and monitoring programs should be extended for longer terms and that inventories should include different methodologies to ensure that their goals are fully achieved.
A pandemia do Covid-19 enfatizou a importância do plástico para a sociedade, pois esse material foi essencial para a contenção do vírus e segurança da população. No entanto, as consequências são diversas devido a exacerbada utilização desse material e a sua má gestão. Nesse sentido, foi realizada uma revisão bibliográfica sistemática a partir de artigos publicados nas bases de dados Web of Science e Scopus. Foram obtidos 35 artigos, os quais foram analisados de forma quantitativa, a fim de apresentar uma análise bibliométrica, e de forma qualitativa os 10 artigos de maior relevância no tema de estudo foram sintetizados. Assim sendo, concluiu-se que os desafios para a economia circular, durante a pandemia, foram agravados com a redução das coletas seletivas e com a ausência de separação de muitos desses resíduos plásticos. Evidenciou-se também a falta de consciência e o desconhecimento da sociedade referente aos perigos ambientais que os plásticos causam, além dos impasses políticos e econômicos.
