In 1975, the occurrence of several events in international as well as regional politics had a significant impact on Thai foreign policy. Thailand changed its traditional policy of close alliance with the USA to a more equidistant relationship with both superpowers, and by seeking friendly relations with China and the Indochinese states. The article focuses on Thai perceptions of China and Japan. The new direction of Thai foreign policy under the Prime Minister Chatichai Choonhavan is scrutinized. (DÜI-Sen)
