ABSTRACT Objective: to describe the historical aspects of anesthesia recovery evidenced in the publications. Method: this is an exploratory and descriptive historical-social research, based on the publications and legislation about nursing practice in Brazil, representing the historical context of the anesthetic recovery for the recognition and valuation of perioperative nursing. Results: In this historical evolution, the nursing of the anesthetic recovery built a path permeated by the technical approach, need for individualized assistance and critical area, with a search of scientific knowledge and hospital accreditation processes for patient safety. In Brazil, initiated only in 1980, the anesthetic recovery of the 2000s has been based on systematized assistance, permeated by patient safety actions in search of better team training. Conclusion: there is a movement of the Brazilian nursing with the assistance of the anesthetic recovery and improvement of these actions over time. Abstract
This article aims to study the role of reward practices in fostering the creativity process and the innovation performance of academic spin-offs. We start from the extant literature on the promotion of creativity and innovation in companies, stressing the role of rewards and other human resources management (HRM) practices. Then we conduct empirical research using purposely collected data on eighteen spin-off companies, whose parent organization is Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), a Portuguese engineering school. The results indicate that reward practices are mainly associated with the individual components of creativity (skills and processes) and that its positive effect on innovation is usually moderated by other practices of HRM, namely selection, teamwork, training and performance appraisal.

AbstractThe paper presents the results of a research on governance and innovation dynamics involved in a Portuguese rural territory—Coruche, the so‐called capital of cork. By presenting research on innovation dynamics using a particular raw material and a particular rural territory (Coruche), the research fulfils two objectives: (i) contribute to the extant literature, by addressing an empirical context that has been neglected by most innovation scholars, that is, rural territories and traditional sectors, namely agro‐forest industry; and (ii) highlight different novelties and territorial dynamics related with cork production and transformation and governance aspects of this particular system of innovation. The use of a network analysis allows the characterization of this system, the different types of actors (multi‐actor), their interactions framed by institutions, and operating at different territorial scales (multi‐scale). The governance of cork‐based activities in this territory includes important transformation companies, forest producers, professional and development associations, and public administration entities with competences in regulation and the development of the territory, including the management of European Funds. The local presence of a multinational enterprise introduces interesting issues related with its attachment to the territory including the creation of employment and the collaboration with local entities in activities and events related with cork production and transformation.

The paper addresses the role played by experimental projects in the process of development of new sustainable energy technologies, investigation how they promote learning, both about the technologies and about the economic, social and political processes required to construct a new system. For this purpose it analyses the case of the emerging marine renewable energy technologies, which are complex technologies whose full development and diffusion involves combining a variety of areas (both new and existing) with diverse industrial structures, technological and organizational practices, institutions and cultures, and thus requires mobilising connecting and aligning substantially different actors. The analysis addresses the experimental projects wih Portuguese involvement conducted, over time, in the wave energy and offshore wind energy fields, combining secondary data and interviews with key actors. It focuses on the behavior actors, as the entry point to investigate the processes at work. The objective is to understand whether and how sequences of experimental projects and the presence of "intermediary actors" - who connect between projects and conduct"aggregation activities" that turn contextual knowledge into generic knowledge - contribute to learning processes concerning technology stabilisation, actors' alignment and transformation of the institutional framework. The preliminary results offer an overview of the evolution of the most significant actors/networks and provide some indicators towards roles played, as well as insights into the nature of learning processes that are at work in the emerging system.

This article contributes to a conceptual clarification and an understanding of how industrial tourism research has evolved. It is based on a literature review of scientific research produced over the past 25 years, focusing on its relation to regional development. The analysis was based on 51 scientific articles retrieved from the Scopus database. The growing interest in this theme, which is transversal to several research areas, is evident, adopting, in most cases, a qualitative methodology of case studies. As a promoter of regional development, industrial tourism has positive aspects, such as economic, social, and ecological benefits, among others, but also some constraints, such as excessive commercialization and loss of authenticity of the places. Thus, this work also contributes to identifying this product's impacts and development strategies in the territories.

This article investigates whether Asian countries are becoming more active at the discovery stage, a higher stage of the drug development value chain. We conduct the first quantitative study to investigate these countries positioning in drug discovery activities. For this purpose, we draw on a database containing historical information on more than 61,000 drugs, for the period 1994–2015, and extract and analyse data on the drug discovery events in which a selected group of Asian countries were involved. The results show that these countries are increasingly involved in activities of discovery and that, in some of them, these activities are predominantly conducted on drugs owned by local organisations. Along with this process, markets for discovery are being created, both through sub-contracting and through partnerships among local organisations (for their own drugs) and between local and non-local ones. Second, drawing on the strategies and organisational set-ups adopted in each country, we distinguish a number of profiles regarding the ways competences for markets for discovery are being built. Third, we identify the existence of a strong regional centre of competences, acting as a local–global articulation locus for markets of discovery. These results provide new insights into the ways Asian countries are moving up the drug development value chain and contribute to our understanding of the learning processes underway in different contexts and the variety of configurations resulting from these processes, supporting a discussion on the potential role of policies to further expand markets for discovery.

<p>O presente estudo tem como principal objetivo estudar a adoção de práticas de inovação aberta em pequenas e médias empresas (PMEs). A Inovação Aberta é atualmente reconhecida como uma alteração de paradigma na gestão da inovação. Ao longo dos últimos anos, vários estudos empíricos confirmaram os resultados positivos da adoção do modelo aberto. Os primeiros estudos se basearam na análise de casos de grandes empresas. Entretanto, alguns estudos recentes foram aplicados em PMEs constatando resultados favoráveis também neste contexto. Contudo, ainda existe uma escassez de estudos sobre as práticas efetivamente adotadas por estas empresas. Sendo assim, a principal contribuição do presente estudo reside na apresentação de evidências e reflexões sobre a adoção do modelo em PMEs brasileiras, mostrando que a viabilidade da Inovação Aberta não só nas grandes empresas. A realização da análise empírica recorreu à abordagem qualitativa da Análise de Conteúdo, na qual três principais etapas foram realizadas: Pré-análise, Descrição Analítica e Interpretação. Os dados foram coletados a partir da realização de entrevistas com gestores e diretores de PMEs brasileiras. Os resultados empíricos obtidos neste estudo permitem identificar quatro tipos de práticas que são, de fato, caracterizadas pelo modelo de Inovação Aberta: envolvimento do cliente; externalização de Pesquisa e Desenvolvimento (P&amp;D); criação de novas empresas; externalização das competências de mercado e estão sendo utilizadas por PMEs.</p>

The second stage is to assess the efficiency of countries using DEA through two original CDW production models, one for sustainability, measuring the efficiency of the construction sector for reducing its CDW, and the second a model to score the efficiency of maximizing the CDW recovery rate. The main outcome of the paper is the proposed methodology, which is a candidate for replacing current indicators in order to evaluate the performance of CDW policy, due to is adaptive nature, promoting the continuous improvement and overcoming the limitations of the poor quality of metrics, data and parametric indicators. ABSTRACT Objective: analyzing violence against older people registered at the police station for security and protection to the elderly. Method: an exploratory study of qualitative approach based on secondary data, recorded in 2012 in 300 Bulletins of Violence Occurrence through form. Data were processed in IRAMUTEQ, analyzed by the descending hierarchical classification and presented in four classes. Results: class III - violence against the elderly in financial institutions by third parties; class I - family violence against the elderly; class II - reason for the violence against the elderly; and class IV - loans to elderly person granted by financial. Conclusion: violence against older people is a violation of human rights and requires strategic actions by the government and society, both in the prevention as the confrontation, in order to rescue and ensure the dignity of this segment. Objective: To analyze the social representations of occupational risks involving students in the area of health. Method: Exploratory research with 160 students from nursing, medicine and dentistry, through interviews. The data were processed in ALCESTE 4.8 and lexical analysis done by descending hierarchical classification. Results: In four semantic classes, namely: occupational risks involving students in the area of health, the work environment and occupational risks, exposure to accidents with sharps and adoption of standard precautions as biosecurity measures. Conclusion: Students healthcare represent occupational risks, such as a concern for the prevention of cross infection in the workplace, should both professionals and students of health, adopt standard precautions and biosecurity measures in the environment work.
