Monika Frommel hat den Frauenrechtsdiskurs und die Frauenrechtsbewegung in Deutschland in mehrfacher Hinsicht geprägt und begleitet. Zum einen ist sie als eine der wenigen (Straf-)​Rechtsprofessorinnen ihrer Generation zum Rollenvorbild für Frauen in der Wissenschaft geworden und hat durch ihr Schaffen Nachwuchswissenschaftlerinnen inspiriert, ihr auf diesem Weg zu folgen. Zum anderen hat sie sich wissenschaftlich wie rechtspolitisch in ihrer Funktion als Vorsitzende der Strafrechtskommission des Deutschen Juristinnenbundes immer wieder - auch kritisch - mit feministischen Themen auseinandergesetzt und so den Diskurs um "Gender und Recht" und die rechtliche Stellung der Frau entscheidend bereichert. Ein immer wieder von ihr aufgegriffenes Thema ist die (beständige) Reform des Sexualstrafrechts. Wir hoffen daher, dass unser kleiner Beitrag zur strafrechtlichen und universitären Bedeutung der Istanbul-Konvention ihr Interesse findet.

This book enquires into the counter-hegemonic capacity of international criminal justice. It highlights perspectives and themes that have thus far often been neglected in the scholarship on (critical approaches to) international criminal justice. Can international criminal justice be viewed as a 'counter-hegemonic' project? And if so, under what conditions? In response to these questions, scholars and practitioners from the Global South and North reflect inter alia on the engagement with international criminal justice in the context of Ukraine, Palestine, and minorities in South-Asia while also highlighting the hegemonic tendencies built into the institutional structure of the International Criminal Court on the axes of gender and language.
