Examines the use of information & communication technologies by right-wing extremists in the Federal Republic of Germany. Right-wing activists & groups, who generally meet with hostility in the mass media, are increasingly using computer networks to create their own relatively safe, self-supporting milieu. Computer networks serve four functions: internal communication & mobilization; cooperation & cooperative work with other groups (including US groups); collection & dissemination of information; & public sphere access. The right-wing milieu supported by computer networks may not yet amount to a new social movement, but it is clear that right-wing extremism is creating a collective identity with a strong potential for mobilization. 17 References.
