Abstract. Aims: The increasing prevalence of patients seeking treatment for methamphetamine use disorder (MUD) in some regions of Germany and the high relapse rates following common treatment interventions make more effective interventions highly needed. The aim of the present study was to enhance our understanding of the impact of impulsivity on relapse during treatment and thus to outline possible individual characteristics that make more tailored interventions necessary. Methodology: Forty-two patients with a diagnosis of MUD admitted to inpatient treatment and 21 matched healthy control participants (HC) completed the Barratt Impulsiveness Scale (BIS-11) as a self-reported measure of trait impulsivity and a go/no-go task with methamphetamine-associated and neutral stimuli to assess deficits of response inhibition. Relapse rates of patients during treatment were assessed. Results: Higher impairment of response inhibition, but not trait impulsivity, significantly predicted relapse during treatment. These findings were observed although patients with MUD compared to HC did not differ with regard to deficits of response inhibition. Conclusions: These findings suggest that patients with MUD who show enhanced deficits of response inhibition are more vulnerable to relapse during treatment and need more tailored treatment interventions.

Zusammenfassung. Zielsetzung: Die vorliegende Pilotstudie untersuchte, ob selbstberichtete Achtsamkeit bei drogenabhängigen Patienten negativ mit impulsivem Verhalten assoziiert ist und ob dieser Zusammenhang über eine effektivere Emotionsregulation vermittelt wird. Ferner wurde die Relevanz der Differenzierung verschiedener Impulsivitäts-Facetten im Zusammenhang mit Craving und Abstinenzzuversicht untersucht. Methodik: Einunddreißig männliche drogenabhängige Patienten in stationärer Entwöhnung beantworteten Fragen zu Achtsamkeit (MAAS), Emotionsregulationskompetenzen (SEK-27), Depressivität (PHQ-9), Craving (MaCS) und Abstinenzzuversicht (HEISA-16). Impulsivität wurde zum einen als selbstberichtetes Trait-Merkmal (BIS-15) erfasst. Weiterhin wurden die verhaltensbezogenen Komponenten impulsives Entscheidungsverhalten (Delay Discouting Task) und substanzbezogene Inhibitionskontrolle (Go-/No-Go-Aufgabe) erhoben. Ergebnisse: Achtsamkeit war negativ mit Trait-Impulsivität assoziiert und hing, mediiert über höhere Emotionsregulationskompetenzen, positiv mit Inhibitionskontrolle zusammen. Trait-Impulsivität und Delay Discounting erwiesen sich als Korrelate von Craving. Keine der Impulsivitäts-Facetten war mit Abstinenzzuversicht assoziiert. Schlussfolgerungen: Die Differenzierung der Impulsivitäts-Facetten stellte sich als bedeutsam heraus. Experimentelle Designs sind nun notwendig, um die in der vorliegenden Pilotstudie gefundenen Zusammenhänge hinsichtlich ihrer Kausalität zu prüfen.

Introduction: Following the digital progress and the availability of online streaming services, binge-watching (in the literature often defined as watching >2 episodes of a TV series in one sitting) has become a popular viewing pattern. Concerns about possible negative consequences of this behaviour have arisen and its proximity to behavioural addictions is discussed. The aim of the present study was to explore how depressive symptoms, impulsivity and their potential interaction are related to the consequences of binge-watching. In addition, the possible association of the Big 5 personality traits neuroticism, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness, and openness with consequences from binge-watching was assessed. Method: An online survey including the assessment of intensity of and negative consequences from binge-watching (with an adapted version of the Short-Internet-Addiction Test and a newly developed questionnaire) and questionnaires on depressive symptoms (i.e., General Depression Scale), impulsivity (i.e., Barratt Impulsiveness Scale) and personality traits (i.e., short version of the Big 5 Inventory) was completed by 228 participants. Results: Regression analysis indicated that impulsivity was associated with loss of control and neglect of duties, while depressive symptoms led to neglect of duties and social problems. No significant interaction effects were observed. Conscientiousness was the only personality trait that explained a significant proportion of the variance of consequences from binge-watching. Discussion/Conclusion: Our findings suggest that depressive symptoms and impulsivity are 2 independent pathways to negative consequences from binge watching. However, given the rather low proportion of variance proportion explained, future studies are warranted to enhance our understanding of other individual characteristics and to further clarify the proximity to behavioural addictions.

<b><i>Introduction:</i></b> While identity problems and materialistic value endorsement have been described as predisposing factors for buying-shopping disorder (BSD) in the literature, little empirical data are available on the role of socially undesirable personality features that may contribute to financial misconduct and manipulative interpersonal behaviors in BSD. The dark triad of personality refers to such offensive yet non-pathological personality traits and has been applied to addictive behaviors in the past. The aim of the present study was to investigate whether the "dark triad" dimensions Machiavellianism, subclinical narcissism, and subclinical psychopathy predict symptoms of BSD above and beyond identity confusion and materialism, or moderate the relationship between materialism and symptoms of BSD. <b><i>Method:</i></b> The participants comprised a convenience sample (<i>N</i> = 272, 72.4% women) aged between 18 and 67 years. Assessment included standard questionnaires for BSD, identity problems, materialism, and the dark triad of personality. <b><i>Results:</i></b> Zero-order correlations indicate a weak association between BSD and the dark triad dimensions Machiavellianism and narcissism, but not psychopathy. Results of a moderated regression analysis with BSD symptoms as a dependent variable revealed significant main effects for materialism, female gender, and a significant "narcissism by materialism" effect, after accounting for identity confusion/synthesis and the single dark triad traits. <b><i>Conclusion:</i></b> The findings suggest that individuals with BSD attempt to address their narcissistic deficits via materialistic possessions. This assumption warrants further investigation in a clinical sample.

Zusammenfassung: Zielsetzung: Die vorliegende Studie thematisiert potenzielle Schnittstellenprobleme, indem sie die Nutzung von Anschlussmaßnahmen (AN) bei Patient_innen nach stationärem Alkoholentzug ohne Nahtlosverfahren untersuchte. Methodik: Analysiert wurde die Kontrollgruppe des SmartAssistEntz-Projekts. Dazu wurden 181 Personen drei und sechs Wochen sowie drei und sechs Monate nach ihrer Entzugsbehandlung telefonisch befragt und Informationen zur Nutzung und Bewertung verschiedener AN erfasst. Ergebnisse: Über den Studienzeitraum hinweg nahm mehr als die Hälfte der Teilnehmenden mindestens eine AN in Anspruch. Am häufigsten und kontinuierlich wurden Suchtberatungsangebote genutzt (20-35 % der Teilnehmenden). Entwöhnungen wurden drei Wochen nach der Entzugsbehandlung von 8-14 %, nach sechs Monaten von 27-32 % der Teilnehmenden berichtet. Die AN wurden mehrheitlich als "hilfreich" bewertet, wobei Selbsthilfegruppen am schlechtesten abschnitten. Das Fehlen einer AN wurde am häufigsten (12-22 %) mit Wartezeit begründet. Das Aufsuchen einer Entwöhnungsbehandlung in den ersten drei Monaten nach Entzugsbehandlung hing mit einem geringeren Rückfallrisiko zusammen. Schlussfolgerungen: Insbesondere Suchtberatungsangebote scheinen eine niedrigschwellige und als hilfreich bewertete Maßnahme im Anschluss an eine stationäre Entzugsbehandlung zu sein. Gleichzeitig scheint bezogen auf Abstinenz das Aufsuchen einer Entwöhnung ausschlaggebend zu sein, sodass deren Nutzung stärker gefördert werden sollte.
