Abstract
Recognition is an important function of labour, as Schlothfeld claims, but only under given capitalist conditions. It is the very point of the introduction of basic income, if embedded in a suitable education system, that it would allow people to receive recognition from all kinds of activities they regard as meaningful rather than from stultifying wage labour.

Abstract
I understand the claim that there is a right to work as the claim that involuntary unemployment is an injustice that requires of justice enforcement institutions to stop it. I argue that in present conditions of high productivity it is more consistent with the liberal tradition to proclaim a right to develop one's capabilities than a right to work. The steps of my argument are: (1) An important though not the only reason for considering unemployment unjust has been what I call the Promethean idea of society. (2) The Promethean idea is implied by the liberal idea of rights. (3) There are two conceptions of the Promethean idea, the centralist and the autonomous one. (4) Only the latter is acceptable. (5) Involuntary unemployment is unjust even if the dole is decently high. (6) The injustice of unemployment can be stopped only by institutions that enable everyone to use their capabilities in realizing the Promethean idea. (7) One such institution is basic income. (8) As employment is not necessary for survival, we should replace the right to work with a right to develop one's capabilities.

Abstract
I propose a conception of critical theory that is an alternative to that of the Frankfurt School and Habermas. It is based on the assumptions that critical theory is not unique but started off with the 5th century BC movement of the sophists that aimed at an understanding of society free from superstition and prejudice, can be better understood by considering the history of social thinking, does not look for knowledge for knowledge's sake but for solving practical problems, distinguishes basic social problems from dependent problems, looks for and defends a value to guide it both in its research and its solutions, prefers the value of capability development to that of happiness.

Was die Lehren vom "gerechten Krieg" attraktiv macht, ist ihr Universalitätsanspruch. Ihren Legitimitätsbedingungen sollen sich alle unterwerfen, Barbaren und Zivilisierte. Sie geben Kriterien zur Unterscheidung erlaubter und verbotener Kriege an und stehen daher zwischen Pazifismus und Realpolitik, für die der Krieg ein Mittel der Politik ist. Ihre Mittelstellung erklärt, warum sie sowohl als modifizierte Realpolitik kritisiert wie als eine Form des Pazifismus vertreten werden können. Der vorliegende Beitrag diskutiert folgende Liste notwendiger Bedingungen dafür, einerseits einen Krieg legitim anzufangen, anderseits ihn legitim durchzuführen, die je zusammen als hinreichende Legitimitätsbedingungen gelten: (1) der Krieg muss von legitimer Autorität erklärt werden; (2) es muss um eine gerechte Sache gehen; (3) die Absicht muss gut sein; (4) der Krieg sollte das letzte Mittel, die ultima ratio, für das Ziel sein, dem er dient; (5) die Kriegskosten sollten dem Kriegsziel angemessen sein; (6) der Kriegserfolg sollte wahrscheinlich sein. Der Beitrag geht davon aus, dass die mit rechtsradikalen Positionen einhergehende Abwehrhaltung gegenüber Zuwanderung wesentlich ökonomisch bedingt ist. Die insbesondere bei Arbeitern verbreitete Angst vor sozialer Deklassierung ist insofern moralisch relevant, als es dabei um einen Wunsch nach der Anerkennung von Interessen geht, die als berechtigt angesehen werden können. Dieser rationale, moralische Kern innerhalb der - ansonsten in vielerlei Hinsicht irrationalen und moralisch inakzeptablen - Ideologie des Rechtsradikalismus muss ernst genommen werden. Insbesondere muss geklärt werden, ob eine vorrangige Berücksichtigung der Interessen der Bürger durch den Staat gerechtfertigt ist oder nicht. Für den Autor lässt sich ein solcher Vorrang auch unter liberalen Prämissen rechtfertigen: Die Verfolgung des (nationalen und individuellen) Eigeninteresses ist legitim, sofern dabei der durch das Recht gesetzte Rahmen nicht verletzt wird. Die Aufgabe eines Staates besteht aus liberaler Sicht darin, einerseits seinen Bürgern die Entfaltung ihrer Fähigkeiten zu ermöglichen, andererseits die ihm anvertrauten natürlichen Ressourcen allen Bürgern gleichermaßen zugänglich zu machen und sie im Interesse zukünftiger Generationen möglichst nachhaltig zu nutzen. Weiterhin ist die Zuwanderung aufgrund demographischer Defizite wünschenswert und legitimierbar; letztlich muss diese Entscheidung aber unter Mitsprache derjenigen getroffen werden, die befürchteten, die Verlierer einer Politik offenerer Grenzen zu sein.
