The book covers Oriental management theories as well as their applications; research on positivism; long-term focus; exclusive interviews and accumulating first-hand data, etc. It also addresses the following topics: Chinese family businesses that have survived for more than one hundred years(e.g. INFINITUS, Beijing TRT); Chinese enterprises and firms that follow the oriental management culture serve as the dynamic engines to the 2nd largest economic entity in the world (e.g., Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd., Mengniu Dairy Gr., Hainan Airlines and so on); Eastern and western managerial cultures that have been growing within Chinese businesses(e.g., Hainan Airlines, INFINITUS); Varied schools such as Confucianism, Taoism, Buddhism, legalism, Military Strategists, Mohist School remain vital but at the same time Chinese businesses and firms welcome and extract the essence of western managerial civilization rather than reject it, etc. These areas will be of particular interest to readers, and the purpose of the book is not only to acquaint the reader with China by providing information about Chinese businesses and firms, but also to provide a royal road to doing business with China as well as allowing them to learn about Chinese managerial wisdom
This paper aims to examine the influence of Economic Policy Uncertainty (EPU) on environmental performance, as well as the moderating effect of social development and the political regimes in EPU's influence on environmental performance. To investigate such essential issues, we conducted Generalized Method of Moments (GMM) estimations by utilizing cross-country data covering 137 countries during the period of 2001–2018, according to the Stochastic Impacts by Regression on Population, Affluence and Technology (STIRPAT) model. Our empirical estimations support that EPU negatively affects environmental performance; this idea was still supported when we conducted an empirical analysis by changing the measurements, employing alternative estimations and constructing new samples. Furthermore, not only would the absolute level of EPU bring worse environmental performance, but so would an increase in EPU. Moreover, higher economic performance, globalization and a high quality of governance can help countries to alleviate the adverse environmental effect of EPU. Additionally, EPU's negative effect on environmental performance is stronger in right-wing countries, autocracies and non-OECD countries, compared to their counterparts. Our study provides substantial policy implications for governments participating in the international treaties of environmental protection, to mitigate environmental degradation.

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to empirically examine the role of relationality in buyer–supplier negotiations and how it varies across cultural settings.Design/methodology/approachUsing a multisession simulation design, this study recruited research participants (n = 82) from diverse cultural backgrounds to play the role of either buyer or supplier for two negotiation tasks. Regression analyses were used to test the relationships among relational constructs as well as the moderating role of relational culture.FindingsResults show that negotiators' relational self-construal enhances their relational commitment to the ongoing negotiations, which leads to a higher level of relational capital accumulated at the end of negotiations. The impact of relational self-construal on relational commitment and that of relational commitment on counterparts' relational capital are stronger for negotiators from a high (as opposed to low) relational cultural background. Furthermore, intercultural negotiation context, when compared with intracultural context, weakens the impact of relational commitment on relational capital.Originality/valueThis research is among the first to empirically examine the culturally varied relationality in negotiations. The findings offer important theoretical and practical implications regarding how relationality, when interacting with cultural factors, has varying impacts on business negotiations.

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to systematically review and analyze the important, yet under-researched, topic of relationality in negotiations and propose new directions for future negotiation research.Design/methodology/approachThis paper conducts a systematic review of negotiation literature related to relationality from multiple disciplines. Thirty-nine leading and topical academic journals are selected and 574 papers on negotiation are reviewed from 1990 to 2014. Based on the systematic review, propositions regarding the rationales for relationality in negotiations are developed and future research avenues in this area are discussed.FindingsOf 574 papers on negotiations published in 39 peer-reviewed journals between 1990 and 2014, only 18 papers have studied and discussed relationality in negotiations. This suggests that relationality as a theoretical theme has long been under-researched in negotiation research. For future research, this paper proposes to incorporate the dynamic, cultural and mechanism perspectives, and to use a qualitative approach to study relationality in negotiations.Originality/valueThis paper presents the first systematic review of the negotiation literature on relationality, and identifies new research topics on relationality in negotiations. In so doing, this research opens new avenues for future negotiation research on relationality.
In 2008 financial crisis, stock market turned highly volatile while U.S. government had proposed a series of policies rescuing the economy. This study examines convergence to market efficiency from government financial policies. We find a significant impact of contemporaneous order imbalance on return, while the relation between return and lagged imbalances is insignificant, implying that lagged order imbalances have no predictability on return. From a time-varying GARCH model, we find that explaining power of order imbalance on return declining, implying that volatility plays an important role in return-order imbalance relation. We take a further step to find that there is no strong direct relationship between order imbalances and stock volatility. The story casts on market maker behaviors. Market makers accommodate high inventory levels to mitigate stock volatility on financial policies announcements. An imbalance based trading strategy we develop fails to beat the market. It supports financial policy announcement efficiency.

The titanate nanofibers containing silver can be fabricated by means of ion exchange followed by a topochemical process in an environment suitable for reductive reactions. Excellent antibacterial, antifungal, and antiproliferative activities could be demonstrated by both Ag2Ti5O11 · xH2O and Ag/titanate (UV light irradiation) due to their unique structures and compositions, which have photocatalytic activities to generate reactive oxygen species and capabilities to continuously release the silver ions. Therefore these materials have the potential to produce a membrane for the treatment of superficial malignant tumor, esophageal cancer, or cervical carcinoma. They may also hold utility if incorporated into a coating on stents in moderate and advanced stage esophageal carcinoma or for endoscopic retrograde biliary drainage. These approaches may significantly reduce infections, inhibit tumor growth, and importantly, improve quality of life and prolong survival time for patients with tumors. Keywords: silver, titanate, photocatalytic, antiproliferative, antimicrobial
