The article deals with "Chinese path" ‒ modernization transformation of the Chinese Civilization. It is shown that "Chinese path" reflects the formation and development of a new configuration of Chinese civilization. From civilizational transformation to "the Chinese path" is the gradual historical development, was the failure "to improve the state of construction of the" victory "of the revolution state-building", the success of the "economic state-building", constructing a "civilizational state-building". Socialism with Chinese characteristics liberates and develops the productive forces, creating a socialist market economy, socialist democracy, advanced socialist culture, harmonious socialist society, eco-culture of socialism. ; В статье рассматриваются «китайский путь» ‒ модернизационная трансформация китайской цивилизации. Показано, что «китайский путь» отражает формирование и развитие новой конфигурации китайской цивилизации. От цивилизационной трансформации к «китайскому пути» проводится поэтапное историческое развитие, были неудачи «совершенствования государственного строительства», победы «революции государственного строительства», успехи «экономического государственного строительства», конструирование «цивилизационного государственного строительства». Социализм с китайской спецификой освобождает и развивает производительные силы, создает социалистическую рыночную экономику, социалистическую демократию, прогрессивную социалистическую культуру, гармоничное социалистическое общество, экокультуру социализма.

AbstractDespite the numerous studies focused on the sociopsychological factors involved in seismic preparedness, we have limited knowledge of the impact pathways from fatalism belief and optimism orientation to preparedness. This study proposed a theoretical model to examine the intertwined relationships among fatalism belief, optimism orientation, and risk perception regarding public seismic preparedness based on a survey in the Beijing–Tianjin–Hebei region in China. The results indicate that fatalism belief can directly reduce an individual's seismic preparedness intention. In addition, such beliefs negatively moderate the positive relationship between the probability perception of earthquakes and skill preparedness. Moreover, optimism orientation has dual effects. On the one hand, it directly enhances the public's intention to prepare. On the other hand, it makes people underestimate their perceptions of the consequences of earthquakes, which indirectly reduces their willingness to materially prepare. Furthermore, we found that fatalism belief can negatively moderate the positive relationship between optimism orientation and material preparedness. These findings contribute to safety education for earthquake disaster risk reduction (EDRR) strategies, especially those used where fatalist culture is prevalent.

AbstractThere are thousands of earthquakes every year, but most of them are small and are not disasters. This study explored whether non‐destructive earthquake experience affects public risk perception and motivates preparedness. The study respondents were from the Jiaodong Peninsula, China, where more than 20 small earthquakes have occurred during the past decade. The results show that non‐destructive earthquake experience positively affected public perception of the probability of an earthquake but not the perception of consequences. The relationship between non‐destructive earthquake experience and preparedness intention was not statistically significant. In addition, this study revealed that the perception of consequences was a positive predictor of earthquake preparedness intention, that is people with higher levels of perceived consequences of an earthquake were more likely to be motivated to prepare. However, non‐destructive earthquake experience moderated this relationship, that is weakened the strength of this relationship between perceived consequences and skill preparedness intention. These findings permit the identification of potential pathways to increase levels of disaster preparedness and potential barriers to enhancing disaster resilience in regions experiencing small hazards.

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to determine whether it is useful to tease apart the intimately related propositions of social production and social construction to guide thinking in the multidisciplinary study of disasters.Design/methodology/approachThe authors address our question by reviewing literature on disasters in the social sciences to disambiguate the concepts of social production and social construction.FindingsThe authors have found that entertaining the distinction between social production and social construct can inform both thinking and action on disasters by facilitating critical exercises in reframing that facilitate dialog across difference. The authors present a series of arguments on the social production and construction of disaster and advocate putting these constructs in dialog with vulnerability frameworks of the social production of disasters.Originality/valueThis commentary contributes to disambiguating important theoretical and practical concepts in disaster studies. The reframing approach can inform both research and more inclusive disaster management and risk reduction efforts.

AbstractNew energy vehicles are regarded as an important measure for improving air quality, reducing oil dependence, fostering emerging industries, and promoting high-quality development. Since 2009, the Chinese government has been committed to promoting new energy vehicles through various policy measures, such as fiscal subsidies. Meanwhile, the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic at the end of 2019 has brought great impact on the economy and society. Thus, it is a topic of research to determine if the fiscal subsidy policy can assist new energy vehicles to resist the pandemic's impact and build consumption resilience. Current researches lack enough attention to the role of fiscal subsidy policy in enhancing consumption resilience under the pandemic impact. By utilizing monthly sales data of new energy vehicles in Shanghai from January 2018 to February 2021, this study employs regression discontinuity (RD) analysis and the combination of the RD with the differences-in-differences (DID) model, to comprehensively evaluate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on new energy vehicle consumption and the effectiveness of fiscal subsidy policies in enhancing consumption resilience. The findings reveal that the COVID-19 pandemic shock, with a bandwidth of 3 months, led to a 23% decrease in new energy vehicles sales. In comparison with unsubsidized vehicles, sales of subsidized new energy vehicles significantly increased by 15–80% during the pandemic shock, indicating that fiscal subsidies are crucial in enhancing the consumption resilience of new energy vehicles. Compared with other country-specific new energy vehicles, the subsidy effect of domestic new energy vehicles is relatively inadequate during the pandemic shock. The retreat from subsidy policies has contributed to a decline in the consumption of new energy vehicles in response to the pandemic shock. It is necessary to further improve the consumption resilience of domestic new energy vehicles and pure electric vehicles.

PurposeThis research investigates the impacts of movie consumers' willingness, measured by the number of people who want to watch a movie, on the relationship between event marketing and box office revenue. This study aims to provide marketers with practical event marketing strategies and tactics to improve box office revenue.Design/methodology/approachPanel data was collected for 1,141 movies released in China from year 2014–2018 for a total of 12 weeks, spanning 4 weeks before and 8 weeks after release. The mediating effect of consumers' willingness on the relationship between event marketing and box office revenue was tested through a stepwise method and the generalized least squares method based on random effects.FindingsMovie consumers' willingness mediates the effect of event marketing and box office revenue. Both movie consumers' willingness and box office revenue follow an inverted U-shaped distribution against the intensity of event marketing. From the second week before release to the first week after release, intensified event marketing enhances box office revenue. Various types and intensities of event marketing should be employed in different periods of time to increase the total box office revenue.Research limitations/implicationsThis research ignores the costs of various types of event marketing for different movies. Future research could consider the cost-effectiveness of event marketing.Practical implicationsThe findings of this paper provide meaningful insights on event marketing strategies for practitioners.Originality/valueThis study contributes to the field by verifying movie consumers' willingness as a mediator between event marketing and box office revenue. The study also provides empirical evidences on effective types and reasonable intensities of event marketing over the whole lifecycle of movies.
