Der Autor bilanziert kurz die bisherigen Forschungsergebnisse der gemischten sowjetisch-polnischen Kommission kommunistischer Parteiwissenschaftler, die mit dem Ziel der Klärung strittiger Aspekte der Geschichte der bilateralen Beziehungen gebildet worden ist. Der Arbeitsschwerpunkt der Kommission liegt auf der Untersuchung der Verantwortung für den Massenmord an polnischen Offizieren in einem Waldgelände nahe Katyn im Jahr 1940. Abschließend erörtert der Verfasser die beiderseitige Motivlage, die zur Bildung der Kommission geführt hat (Schaffung einer neuen Atmosphäre der Intra-RGW-Beziehungen und Verbesserung der sowjetisch-polnischen Beziehungen als Voraussetzung für die Intensivierung der wissenschaftlich-technischen Kooperation und die Stärkung der Blockkohäsion auf sowjetischer, Legitimationszugewinn des kommunistischen Regimes auf polnischer Seite.
