Aquesta investigació se centra en el procés de construcció de l'actualitat internacional, en particular, en el procés de la seva domesticació. El concepte de domesticació de la notícia es basa en el supòsit de que el públic està més interessat en les notícies rellevants que té totes les connexions (o ancoratges) amb el país d'emissió. Els periodistes poden prendre com indicadors per a la domesticació notícies del discurs polític sobre un tema, de manera que els mitjans de comunicació i els discursos polítics es poden solapar. Com a resultat, notícies poden arribar a ser portaveus de la propaganda política, i poden estar reflectint la ideologia dominant, o servir a la promoció de les idees polítiques compartides o recolzades pels propietaris dels mitjans de comunicació. Aquesta investigació es dedica a l'estudi de la domesticació de la cobertura televisiva dels conflictes internacionals a Ucraïna. La cobertura de la guerra a Ossètia del Sud 2008 va ser triat com objecte d'estudi per a la investigació, tenint en compte el ressò que aquesta guerra va causar entre els polítics ucraïnesos i periodistes a causa de la participació de Rússia i Geòrgia. Tots dos països estan estretament relacionats amb Ucraïna no només a través de la cooperació, sinó també a través de la història comuna. La cobertura televisiva de la guerra de 2008 a Ossètia del Sud per tres principals canals ucraïnesos es va analitzar, així com els missatges publicats pels principals actors polítics a Ucraïna que defineixen o implementen la política de l'Estat estranger. Com a resultat, hem trobat solapaments entre els discursos polítics i mitjans de comunicació a Ucraïna, la qual cosa indica que els mitjans de comunicació i els polítics comparteixen alguns prejudicis comuns en matèria de política exterior i interior d'Ucraïna. As the social media increasingly proliferate and shape media consumption in the present-day world, journalists growingly turn to them in search of direct access to their audiences. Under conditions of restricted media freedom, such access suggests a great asset both to journalists who can engage into an open discussion with a wider public and to the very public. In Ukraine, both trends had been vivid in recent years preceding the Euromaidan: on the one hand, media freedom had been deteriorating, but on the other hand, journalists had been utilizing social media more actively. The article examines how Ukrainian journalists communicated with their audiences via Facebook. In particular, it analyzes patterns of interaction during the 2012 parliamentary election campaign. The results of the study show a substantial level of confusion among Ukrainian journalists regarding the role of public debate on Facebook in 2012–2013. While journalists tended to dismiss users' comments as mostly irrelevant, they did consider themselves to be providers of important information or viewpoints for the formation of public opinion. Although such interaction between journalists and other users does not satisfy the normative criteria of the public sphere, analysis of content and interviews with journalists showed that Facebook did suggest an evolving alternative public space in Ukraine, in contrast to the ever more controlled space of mainstream media during the presidency of Yanukovych.

"Patriotic journalism," a deviation from objectivity, has become an important paradigm and well-documented phenomenon in the analysis of conflict coverage. However, studies rarely focus on the link between journalists' perceptions and narratives. We investigated how journalists from two countries, one involved in a conflict (Ukraine) and the other observing it from a distance (Sweden) relate to the objectivity norm in sourcing and narrating seven conflictive news cases in Ukraine (2017 to 2018). We found pragmatic commitment to objectivity in both countries, which was not always reflected in the content produced. For Swedish journalists, our results hint toward a value-based ally loyalty, which seems less stable than a tribe-based bond. In Ukraine, official Ukrainian perspectives were undisputedly disseminated; however, we did not find that they were generally positively laden, as one would expect for patriotic journalists. Trust in public institutions might be a deciding factor over the extent of patriotism.
