MIGRATION DIFFERENTIALS IN SOUTHERN CITIES AND SUBURBS
In: Social science quarterly, Band 50, Heft 2, S. 298-324
ISSN: 0038-4941
31 SMSA's in the Southern Census Region with a pop of 250,000 or more on Apr 1, 1960 were analyzed. A substantial volume of migration into, from & within is found, with whites being more migratory than nonwhites. White & nonwhite migrants from the cities to the suburbs were better educated than suburb to city migrants. Exchange of migrants between southern cities & suburbs raises SE levels of the subUr pop while lowering SE levels of the city pop. White & nonwhite migrants to & from the 31 SMSA's had higher educ'al attainment & occup'al status than did the nonmigrant pop. 2 trends emerged: increasing concentration of nonwhites in southern cities & a suburb'ization of whites, H. Rosen.

(DÜI-Wsl)
