Reflects on the origins and development of the ""blog'' phenomenon and the Balkanization of American culture. The erosion of a common US culture is linked to attacks on Eurocentric education, the rise of radical-leftist relativism, and demographic and technological changes. The blogosphere similarly serves to polarize rather than unify, but one may still hope that the new media will ultimately reinvigorate the moribund notion of a common cultural space.
