This article explores the potential for climate fiction to function as a powerful medium of climate change communication. After briefly introducing climate fiction (colloquially known as 'cli-fi'), I draw reflexively on past teaching experiences to argue for this potential in two main ways. First, I demonstrate how fictional climate storytelling can deepen understanding and engagement with climate science by connecting this abstract knowledge to everyday lived realities. Second, I consider how climate fiction opens pedagogically rich ways of exploring complex emotional responses to living in the climate crisis. The creative works discussed in the article each serve to illuminate the power of speculative climate fiction to engage students and wider publics in processes of imagining more sustainable, resilient, climate-friendly and just ways forward.

Climate change has universal, global implications and uneven, particular local effects. Examining how this complex phenomenon is understood in public discourse calls for the merging of theorizing on geography, justice, nature and the mediation of environmental protest. This article combines these strands to discuss relationships between peoples, places, politics, nature and the media in terms of climate justice. Empirical examples are drawn from interviews conducted with indigenous activists and observations of press events organized by indigenous groups during a U.N. climate summit. We argue that the "misframing" of indigenous peoples at international climate summits underlines the necessity to integrate the perspectives of marginalized, transnational groups and their growing demands for climate justice into future media research on climate change, and the need for a reframing of the mediation of climate change.

This book is a broad and detailed case study of how journalists in more than 20 countries worldwide covered the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Fifth Assessment (AR5) reports on the state of scientific knowledge relevant to climate change. Journalism, it demonstrates, is a key element in the transnational communication infrastructure of climate politics. It examines variations of coverage in different countries and locations all over the world. It looks at how IPCC scientists review the role of media, reflects on how media relate to decision-making structures and cultures, analyzes how key journalists reflect on the challenges of covering climate change, and shows how the message of IPCC was distributed in the global networks of social media
