Macroprudential policy and aggregate demand
This paper assesses the impact of macroprudential policy (MaPP) on aggregate demand in the EU between 2000-2019. Using a difference-in-differences approach, we find that MaPP reduces household consumption and increases firm investment. These effects are relatively mild in the short run but become more pronounced in the long run. Our findings point to a weaker macroeconomic impact than suggested in previous studies. ; info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersion

Is macroprudential policy driving savings?
This paper shows that the recent surge in savings is a result of tighter macroprudential policy. Using a difference-in-differences approach with staggered treatment adoption, we find that households in EU countries that adopted macroprudential policy between 2000 and 2019 increased their savings up to one third more than households in countries without macroprudential policy. Furthermore, our results indicate that the loan-to-value ratio explains most of the variation on savings. Finally, we find that a longer exposure to macroprudential policy exacerbates savings with searing consequences on growth. ; info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersion

L'appropriation portugaise des villes marocaines atlantiques à la fin du Moyen Âge ; The portuguese appropriation of moroccan atlantic cities by the end of the Middle AgesFortification and urban space in Safi and Azemmour ; Fortification et espace urbain à Safi et à Azemmour
UIDB/04666/2020 UIDP/04666/2020 ; By the end of the middle ages, Safi and Azemmour were two major cities due to their intense maritime commercial activity and their proximity to Marrakech, the capital of the country at that time. This meant led to the construction of various defensive devices under the Almohad dynasty. In the case of Azemmour, its partial decline lead to a reconfiguration of the city by the end of the Marinid occupation. Taking advantage of the fragility of the central power in Fez and the growing local autonomy, the Portuguese negotiated a privileged position in these ports by the end of the 15th century, eventually winning them over at the beginning of the next. At this moment, they introduced changes to the pre-existing fortifications, trying to adapt them to the new challenges of the art of war, namely the spread of firearms. This text aims to reconstruct the plan of the medieval walls of Safi and Azemmour, using the results of the archaeological projects developed in these two cities by a Moroccan-Portuguese team in recent years. This new data is an important testimony for this period in these two settlements. The construction works carried out by the Portuguese in the walls are also analysed, taking into account the different dimension and historical singularities of both cities, since they mirror the projects and the different circumstances of the Portuguese action in North Africa. ; publishersversion ; published

The Atlantic Expansion and the Portuguese Material Culture in the Early Modern Age ; An Archaeological Approach
UID/HIS/04666/2013 ; The Early Modern Age was a moment of extraordinary increase of worldwide communications. If, on the one hand, Europe enforced socioeconomic exploitation systems, models of political organisation, and sets of values and beliefs over vast regions bordering the Atlantic, on the other hand, it underwent profound changes as a result from this very contact. Archaeology has yet to give a significant contribution to the understanding of the dissemination of goods, species, habits, and knowledge from America and Africa in Portugal. There is general information about the trade and cultural life, especially in the court and the more favored strata, but lacks elements to characterize these impacts in time and space, but mostly at a social level. In this text, we analyze the available data about the presence of this exogenous material culture in the Portuguese archaeological contexts, regarding elements such as sugar, tobacco, timber, vegetables, animals, cotton, ivory, and slaves. Rather than a comprehensive study, this text is foremost an exploratory work, setting up guidelines for future research on this subject. ; publishersversion ; published

Organizational determinants and idiosyncrasies of firms' absorptive capacity in a developing country
In: Science and public policy: journal of the Science Policy Foundation, Band 47, Heft 3, S. 384-395
ISSN: 1471-5430
AbstractThis article analyses the idiosyncrasies and organizational determinants of the absorptive capacity (AC) of firms located in a developing country. Theoretically, this article characterizes a 'vicious circle of limited AC' in Latin American firms. Empirically, the Brazilian Innovation Survey (2011 and 2014) is employed to analyze the role of organizational innovation and different innovative efforts to build two types of AC: (1) academic AC (to absorb knowledge from universities or research institutes); (2) market AC (to absorb knowledge from suppliers, clients, or competitors). The main results indicate that firms develop both types of AC through training and acquisition of external Research and Development (R&D), instead of expenditure on internal R&D; academic AC is also built by external relationships and the firms' researchers' skills, while market AC is primarily affected by better internal knowledge diffusion. These results qualify the generic argument of limited AC for firms in a Latin American context.
Characterization of historical mortars from the Portuguese Citadel in Ksar Seghir (Morocco)
UID/HIS/04666/2019 ; Ksar Seghir was a privileged place to control the Strait of Gibraltar throughout the centuries, being implanted in its southern bank, nowadays in Moroccan territory. Its prominence led to the construction of a unique circular wall and monumental doors during the Marinid dynasty in the late 13th century. The defensive system was later reformulated during the Portuguese occupation between 1458 and 1550, which sought a technical update, namely the introduction of new defensive devices adapted for artillery, that was gaining importance in the Mediterranean context. After its abandonment by the Portuguese, the town remained unoccupied, being today an archaeological site. Since 2008, the Moroccan government has undertaken a program to value the site and its structures, namely through various conservation and restoration actions. From 2011 a team of Moroccan and Portuguese researchers began a project to deepen the study and restore Ksar Seghir's archaeological contexts, which led to the characterization of its structures, specifically the type of construction materials and techniques used. One of our main focuses has been the defensive system, for its impressiveness and historical richness. In this context, the work that is being carried out at Laboratory HERCULES, aims the material study of several mortar samples, collected from the Portuguese Citadel. The analytical methodology employed is an adaptation of standard analytical procedures used in historical mortars studies. The results of textural, mineralogical and chemical characterization allow, among others, the identification of mortars binder and aggregates and also the determination of the binder: aggregates ratio. This provides useful information regarding the history and the construction techniques of the different spots according to its purpose. Moreover, the acquisition of data on the mortars textural, chemical and mineralogical features is essential to assist conservatorrestorers in the correct choice and production of replacement and/or repair mortars that are compatible from a physical as well as chemical point of view with the original ones. ; publishersversion ; published

Relato de experiência com educação musical em uma escola pública de ensino médio na cidade de Belém-PA - oficinas de violão popular e de prática em conjunto
In: DELOS: Desarrollo Local Sostenible, Band 17, Heft 53, S. e1296
ISSN: 1988-5245
