International audience ; Between the 1980s and the 2000s, the historical centre of Barcelona (which corresponds to the district of Ciutat Vella), was the object of an ambitious urban renewal program, associating urban rehabilitation and construction of new public equipments and public housing. But the social consequences of that politics, which take place in the context of the so-called "Modelo Barcelona", weren't totally explored, particularly in relation with the potential "gentrification" which might occur. This word designates a process by which houses are progressively upgraded and the lower classes who lived there before are progressively replaced by middle and upper classes. Au début des années 1980, le centre ancien de Barcelone (qui correspond au district de " Ciutat Vella ") présente tous les aspects d'un quartier historique et populaire au tissu urbain dégradé, à l'exception des quartiers plus bourgeois situés le long de la Via Laietana. Il continue cependant à jouer un rôle particulier dans les fonctions récréatives et culturelles à l'échelle de la ville et dans l'imaginaire des Barcelonais (Savary, 2005). La " crise urbaine ", pour reprendre une expression de J.-P. Lévy (1987), qui le caractérise alors est à la fois démographique, sociale et économique. Pour tenter de la résoudre, la municipalité socialiste, élue en avril 1979 à l'occasion des premières élections démocratiques depuis la fin du régime franquiste, a mis en œuvre une politique de réhabilitation globale du centre ancien. Les pouvoirs publics ont bien compris qu'il ne suffisait pas d'offrir des logements réhabilités pour que les classes moyennes ou aisées reviennent vivre dans un quartier longtemps considéré comme mal famé. Il lui fallait stimuler une perception beaucoup plus positive des quartiers anciens, passant par la transformation de leur paysage et la valorisation de leur patrimoine. Nous proposons d'examiner sous quelles formes, dès le début des années 1980, la question du patrimoine a été intégrée à une ambitieuse politique publique de réhabilitation du centre ancien de Barcelone et quel projet de territoire elle a pu traduire. Quelle place la Municipalité de Barcelone a-t-elle accordé aux politiques patrimoniales, en cherchant à éviter à la fois la " muséification " et la " gentrification " de Ciutat Vella ? Dans quelle mesure pratiquement quarante années de politiques patrimoniales, leurs limites et leurs résistances, traduisent-elles une évolution de la place des quartiers anciens dans la politique municipale, et les contradictions entre la construction et l'appropriation territoriales des pouvoirs publics et celles des résidents du centre ancien de Barcelone ?

Publication à l'issue de la journée d'étude "Analyser la patrimonialisation des espaces urbains", 25 novembre 2010, UMR CITERES (7324) équipe CoST. ; The text studies the relationships between the urban heritage politics and the gentrification processes in old urban districts. Through the case study of Barcelona, it shows how patrimonialization, according to the way "urban heritage" is defined, can be at the same time an instrument for the gentrification of a district, or, on the contrary, a curb to this kind of social mutations. ; Le texte traite des relations entre les politiques de patrimonialisation et les processus de gentrification des quartiers anciens. A travers l'exemple de Barcelone, il montre comment la patrimonialisation, selon la manière d'aborder la notion de patrimoine urbain, peut être tour à tour un instrument au service de la gentrification, et au contraire un frein aux mutations sociales d'un quartier.

International audience ; For some years, initiatives favouring the constitution of a "video game heritage" have increased in France. They have born from the growing concern of different political or economical actors, and of players' associations in favour of the patrimonialization of video games. This paper aims to analyze the logics and the strategies underlying this process in the case of video games. If video games should be seen as a cultural heritage, one has to ask himself to which social or territorial identity it refers. Besides, around this process, actors coexist, who support different conservation strategies. Finally, one has to take into account the stakes of this patrimonialization, i.e. for the players the social acknowledgment of the legitimacy of their cultural practice, and, for the industrials, the economic support of the public authorities and, more largely, of the society, by obtaining the acknowledgment of video games as cultural objects, and even pieces of art. ; Depuis quelques années, les initiatives en faveur de la constitution d'un " patrimoine vidéoludique " se sont multipliées en France. Elles résultent de l'implication croissante de différents acteurs politiques, économiques ou associatifs favorables à la patrimonialisation des jeux vidéo. Cet article entend analyser les logiques et les stratégies qui sous-tendent ce mouvement. Pour que les jeux vidéo puissent être considérés comme un patrimoine culturel, il faut se demander à quelle identité sociale ou territoriale renvoie ce patrimoine. Par ailleurs, autour de ce processus de patrimonialisation gravitent des acteurs qui privilégient des stratégies de conservation différentes. Enfin, il faut prendre en compte les enjeux de cette patrimonialisation, c'est-à-dire pour les joueurs, la reconnaissance sociale de la légitimité culturelle de leur pratique, et, pour les industriels, le soutien économique des pouvoirs publics et plus largement de la société civile par l'octroi du statut d'objet culturel, voire d'œuvre d'art, aux jeux vidéo.

Résumé Le centre ancien de Barcelone a fait l'objet, depuis le début des années 1980, d'une politique publique de réhabilitation urbaine qui a largement contribué à la structuration et à la promotion d'un modèle barcelonais d'intervention urbaine, ou Modelo Barcelona . Ce dernier a tour à tour fait l'objet d'éloges et de critiques. Les discours institutionnels retiennent particulièrement l'attention, parce qu'ils témoignent de la manière dont s'exprime la volonté d'auto-légitimation de la politique menée par les pouvoirs publics à Barcelone depuis quasiment trente années. Une analyse de discours menée sur les éditoriaux de la revue municipale Barcelona Metrópolis Mediterránea permet alors de décrypter l'évolution de la politique urbanistique et le « modèle de ville » promu par la Municipalité. Elle montre l'abandon de la politique de réhabilitation comme vecteur de légitimité, et l'absence de réflexion sur la spécificité des quartiers anciens au sein d'une agglomération mondialisée.

La thèse a été déposée en juin 2009 et soutenue publiquement le 29 septembre 2009. Elle a obtenu la mention très honorable, avec les félicitations du jury à l'unanimité. ; Going from a critical approach of the "model of urban intervention at Barcelona" (or Modelo Barcelona), this work of thesis studies jointly the town planning policies carried out by the Municipality in the old center of Barcelona (district of Ciutat Vella) since the end of the nineteen-seventies, and their consequences on the socio-demographic landscape. The first part points out the demographic, economic, social, political and symbolic stakes of the "recovery" of Ciutat Vella at the beginning of the nineteen-eighties. The second part presents the multiplicity of the actors of this revitalization and analyzes particularly the public action, characterized by the choice of the urban cleansing and the financial support for the private rehabilitation, in a context of persistence of the deficiencies in terms of social housing construction. After having studied the "potential of gentrification" of Ciutat Vella, the third part shows, using a series of plurivariated statistical analyses, that the old center of Barcelona is actually touched by a multiplicity of revalorization and devalorization processes. An analysis of the urban landscape comes to supplement this study, by tackling the question of the scales of these various processes, and of the role of the images and the representations of the old districts. Lastly, this work raises the question of the perception by the inhabitants themselves of the "recovery" of the old center, in particular through the study of the reception of two emblematic urban projects (Rambla del Raval/Illa del Raval and Pou de la Figuera). In same time, a discourse analysis on the editorials of the municipal review Barcelona Metrópolis Mediterránea highlights the progressive disaffection of the public authorities for Ciutat Vella, while at the same time the socio-economic problems are not regulated. ; À partir d'une approche critique du " modèle d'intervention urbaine à Barcelone " (ou Modelo Barcelona), ce travail de thèse étudie conjointement les politiques d'urbanisme menées par la Municipalité dans le centre ancien de Barcelone (district de Ciutat Vella) depuis la fin des années 1970, et leurs conséquences sur le paysage socio-démographique. La première partie rappelle les enjeux démographiques, économiques, sociaux, politiques et symboliques de la " récupération " de Ciutat Vella au début des années 1980. La seconde présente la multiplicité des acteurs de cette revitalisation et analyse en particulier l'action publique, caractérisée par le choix de l'assainissement urbain et le soutien à la réhabilitation privée dans un contexte de persistance des carences en termes de construction de logements sociaux.
