The paper looks at a case of catching-up in managerial resources in the typical newly industrialising economy of South Korea. It examines long-term changes in the role of foreign capital and technology that are caused by the efforts of local firms in the development process. The industry selected for the study is synthetic fiber, one of the modern manufacturing industries developed since 1960s that has played an important role in South Korea's rapid economic growth.
