In a random national sample of 6000 English-speaking adults, aged 18 & over, the greater the degree to which these subjects attributed the causes of homosexuality to genetics, the greater was the support for extending homosexual rights in the areas of legalized domestic partnership & homosexual marriages. The effects of genetic causal attribution for extending homosexual rights seem to benefit from other ideologies: having a deterministic rather than a free will worldview, & political liberalism as well as conservative libertarianism. The influence of belief in free will determinism & political liberalism/conservativism on public opinion regarding capital punishment is examined via analysis of telephone interviews with 800 adults in southern CA. Bivariate analysis reveals that political conservatism was positively associated with support for capital punishment (& political liberalism with opposition). Captial crimes were thought, on the average, to be due to free will, though 10% believed no free will was involved & 32% believed free will was 100% involved. Greater free will attribution was associated with greater support for capital punishment. In multivariate analysis, moral autonomy contributed to the explained variance for participation in politically Leftist social movements. On the bivariate level, "world view" variables besides moral autonomy were also related to social movement participation: (1) authoritarianism, (2) dogmatism, (3) efficacy, and (4) religiosity. In multivariate analysis, the effects of all the explanatory variables except moral autonomy almost entirely disappeared. Even after the addition of the subjects' general political ideology, multivariate effects of moral autonomy remained.
